Hello! How are you? I’m over here just running and eating and listening to audiobooks while doing both. Okay, not while eating because I like to hear myself chew.
Kidding.
Anyway… today I’m sharing my favorite Audiobooks for Runners.
Best Audio Books for Runners
I started using Audible over a year ago – it’s an audio library that works on your phone or laptop. I’m completely obsessed with it. This is the PERFECT option for runners or walkers who want to get lost in a book, be entertained, learn something or just switch it up while exercising.
These are my favorite running books. Some of them I read before I discovered Audible, some of them are the reason I fell in love with audiobooks!
The BEST Audiobooks on Running
Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand (this was made into a movie!)
Run to Overcome by Meb Keflezighi and Dick Patrick
Born to Run by Christopher McDougall
How Bad Do You Want It by Matt Fitzgerald (I just started listening to this one!)
Chi Running by Danny Dreyer
My Life on the Run by Bart Yasso is my next book to listen to – I am a huge fan of Yasso and think he has super helpful and ‘real’ advice
Fast Girl by Suzy Favor Hamilton – not a running book but a book about a runner that was a Las Vegas escort after her professional running career. I think I mentioned this one when I was listening to it last year.
Seen on the run today… lots of open space to get in some miles and listen to a good book!
If you aren’t into running books I have to give an honorable mention to the following books that have been super fun to listen to while running…
Non-Running Book Suggestions:
Wild by Cheryl Strayed (made into a great movie with Reese Witherspoon!)
Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson
Amy Schumer’s first book that I just finished and both of Andy Cohen’s books. I am a huge fan of Amy Schumer and really liked her audiobook since she read it.
Right now I’m listening to Adnan’s Story. Anyone else??!
FREE 30 Day Trial of Audible for RER Readers
When Audible contacted me to share this free trial with my readers I jumped on it. They offered me a free trial too but I said “I don’t need it! I’ve been a subscriber for over a year!”
I’m really excited because I am already a fan and now you can check it out and see if it’s your jam too.

Tell me if you sign up and what book you choose. I’m always looking for audiobook suggestions – running or non-running. I also like true crime stuff, so suggestions along those lines work too!
Right now Audible is offering Run Eat Repeat readers a FREE 30 Day Trial! Check it out here.

Updated 10.11.20: This post was originally a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Audible. The opinions and text are all mine. #ad #audible But the partner links on the original post were no longer working (they were broken). So I updated them to link to the correct books mentioned. If you’d like one main place for the list check out my Amazon Idea List…

The Couple Next Door is so good! Kinda similar to Girl on the Train. Keeps you interested!

I listened to Amy Shumer’s book and laughed so much. She’s quite extreme but I couldn’t stop laughing…I’m thinking of getting Abby Wambach’s (soccer player) book Forward.

This marathon training cycle, I decided to re-“read” Harry Potter from Book 1, via audiobook while running. BEST DECISION EVER. I’d forgotten a lot of the details and the voice acting is SOOOO GOOD.
Run Eat Repeat says
Good tip – I haven’t read it so I feel like I’m missing out!

Love listening to podcasts and audiobooks when running. Just finished reading The Book That Matters Most by Ann Hood. It’s fabulous and would be a great audio book!

Just downloaded “the nest” using audible- thanks for the promo code! I love listening to audio books when I’m running or even when I’m doing chores around the house. I read “fast girl” last year and really enjoyed it.

Absolutely The Girl on the Train. SOOOOO good. I never thought it would take the place of music but Audible did it.

I recently did a post on this on my blog as well, and Matt’s book was also at the top of my list. There’s nothing I love more than going out for a long run knowing that I’m picking up a good book and seeing what happens next. There are times that miles go by and I don’t even notice it!

I’m already on Audible- it’s great for losing yourself in a book whilst on the run! My recommendations would be:
The Girl on the Train
What I Talk About When I Talk About Running
Running Like A Girl
I’ve also listened to How Bad Do You Want It? but I found it to be better in book form as there are a lot of charts and statistics that I personally digest better visually.

Malcolm Gladwell’s “Outlier”, “David and Goliath”, “Blink”, and “What the Dog Saw”. I’ve finished all but What the Dog saw — such compelling books!
I also really enjoyed Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please!”

I have been meaning to check out Fast girl! On my blog I just posted an article today about the three books on my shelf. Currently ABSORBED in the Secret life of Violet Grant!

I get all my audiobooks from my local library using the overdrive app, they are free.
Audible was getting too expensive.

I listened to Unbroken a couple years ago while training for my first marathon. Perfect listening! No way to complain about what you’re feeling while listening to that guy’s life story 😛
Run Eat Repeat says
Seriously. Did you see the movie?
Melisa says
I second Unbroken. Listened to it over many hours of running. Gripping story.
