Unicorn Bagels are a REAL Thing

Hello! How are you doing? It’s day 8 of Pile on the Miles – what are you doing today to run/walk/move? This weekend I took a long walk with a  friend to get coffee. That’s my workout of choice on rest days from running.

Taking a walk with a friend is my favorite thing to do to catch up. I feel like it’s easy to talk and the conversation flows. Plus it gets me moving. The dilemma is that I want to do active things while hanging out, but I don’t want to look like I’m in high school gym class in awkward clothes.

Do I dress for a workout – if it’s not a ‘real’ workout?

Do I dress casual? Jeans will kind of be uncomfortable to walk in, plus they don’t go with running shoes.

I want a comfortable and cute outfit for things like this. I opted for a simple ensemble from Danskin Now. I’m working with the company trying their gear that’s  “Fit for Everything”.

This weekend I was sporting the Danskin Now baseball tee and capris. I love that the line is super affordable and a mix of running, workout gear and casual outfits. I have tanks, sports bras, tees, hoodies, shorts, capris and pants from the line – it hits all the bases.

We walked through a park to Bagels and Brew, a local place with tons of bagel options. Unfortunately the ‘brew’ is brewed coffee – not beer for anyone who drinks with their breakfast.

But they have something better than beer – UNICORN BAGELS.

Yes, they have unicorn bagels. I’m guessing they are unicorn food, which means unicorns are real. It’s science.

I asked about them, but they are just plain bagels with food coloring. So even though they look magical, I didn’t get one.

I opted for a French Toast bagel. That is where it’s at!

But when I finally get a pet unicorn I’m definitely going back to get some!

Vegas didn’t come for coffee and bagels. But I made it up to him later by bugging him a lot. I think he loves it. He repays me by getting fur all over everything.

      Today was a rest day, so nothing for me. I did get some bad news from my chiropractor, though. As my kneecap started hurting the first time I tried running again, no running for at least a couple more weeks. I have to do strengthening exercises because my kneecap shifts. I’m not even supposed to walk for exercise. I need to find something else to do.

      I took a 2 mile walk this afternoon with a friend for my POTM day 9. The walk really aggravated my plantar though so I may have to switch to some strength training for awhile.

      OMG I need to find a unicorn bagel for my little niece! That would absolutely make me her favorite person ever.
      This morning I ran 6 miles before work. And THANK GOD b/c it was 97 degrees by 10am. With Santa Anas. I can’t do 90s. I can’t even do 80s. Anyway, still working on getting my speed back. This is taking far too long. Half marathon in 4 days… gonna be a hot one!

      Today was an unplanned rest day. I have a migraine so I’ve been resting and napping and trying to take care of myself so I can return to “normal” tomorrow.

      I forgot to check in yesterday – ran/walked 1.6 miles plus did Fitnessista’s November Knockout Workout. Today was a 40 min spin class – I estimate 10 miles. Altogether I’m 18 miles in and have some catching up to do to hit my 50 miles of walking, running or cycling!

      I ran 7 miles this morning and was feeling really good and a little cocky because I have had lead legs since the Baltimore marathon a few weeks ago but not today, today felt great until…l. Fell. Tripped and fell. I got skinned up and feel kinda sore but otherwise I am okay thanks for asking. POTM yay!

      I did sprints today for the first time since the marathon a month ago. It was hard but good to get some speed into my legs. It was on the treadmill because it was 93 degrees outside (San Diego in November, I guess!).

      I finished my second of three runs this week. It felt hard, but I pushed it & felt great when I was done. Today is my 39thbirthday and I kept reminding myself how lucky I am that my body can do this!

      I got 23,000 steps in today! I spent a lot of time at the gym this morning to try to sweat out my despair over the election! I spent 35 minutes on the elliptical and walked three miles on the treadmill. The rest of my steps were from school!

      Went to Orangetheory for today’s endurance workout. Before class, a bunch of folks were complaining about how they didn’t care for endurance days…but I secretly like them because running on the treadmill is my jam!

      I did 1.5 miles on the rowing machine at lunch and 30 minutes on the elliptical after lunch. Also did upper body weights. I sometimes walk at lunch worth my coworkers but the weather has been uncooperative.

      My coworker and I went on our daily lunchtime walk a bit earlier today…and it was HOT here in Palm Springs. My workout shoes don’t go with my work clothes so I put them on before we take our walk and take them off when I clock back in from lunch. I’m going on the treadmill tonight after work to get some alone time before the family needs me lol.

      Switched up my plan for the week and did 6km today instead of tomorrow. Now I need to do a speed workout tomorrow! 23.6 km for the month (of my 75km goal). Wow!

      Ahhh danskin! Brings back memories of childhood dance classes of the 80s! Semi diet victory for day 9. Didn’t pig out. Didn’t eat perfect. Balance is what I’m trying desperately to find. Ordered intuitive eating from Amazon. Can’t wait to read it. I am so over diets.

      Dentist day, equals rest day. This is weird, but you’re weird too, so I’ll say it anyway, I thought of you will I was there and made an effort to be socialable despite my anxiety, but then the dentist asked mid-drill if I read a lot of books and if I’ve read any by a particular author. Just drill silently doctor.

      I’m exhausted from staying up all night watching election coverage (and then from being depressed all morning, cough). I am going to take it easy and do some core-focused yoga tonight, and probably hop on the elliptical for a half hour. Back to it tomorrow!

      Walked four miles and did a few push-ups. Now I’m eating my kids leftover candy while they’re at school. I’ve counted my steps to and from the candy bowl into the those four miles btw.

      Feeling a little defeated this morning… it’s a cross training day, so I did 25 min of upper body/abs + 20 min of much needed yoga.

      I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill and 20 min elliptical. That is 1/2 mile more on the treadmill than yesterday. Because although I can run 10 miles outside, I somehow can’t make it to 3 miles on the treadmill! It is all mental! 🙁

      Taking a rest day today. Normally I would play ultimate frisbee on Wednesday but I have a coaching meeting (I coach a girls team) that I have to go to instead. I had a deep muscle massage last night and it HURT. My shoulders and back hurt now and they didn’t beforehand. So I’m not sure if it worked, I’m a big baby, or my masseuse wasn’t very good.

      I’m really trying to stick to my PT’s advice to only run every other day (I feel a small twinge in my hip every now and then that I’m hoping doesn’t turn into more!). So since I ran yesterday, I did elliptical and yoga today.

      Danskin has improved so much over the years…When I was little (long, long, long time ago) there stuff was icky.

      I was up all night last night and ate way to much too late (election stress) and it’s raining so I’m doing some indoor workouts and indoor walking/stair climbing to soothe my soul!

      I NEED a rainbow bagel to make me feel better (:

      Wednesday is my ‘run in the evening’ day – er, evening – so that is the plan. Probably about 3 miles.

      Question re: all running clothes… What do people wash them in to remove any funky smell? It’s not even like I’m all that ripe after I run but my clothes hold the smell. (Maybe I just need new clothes!)

        Try adding vinegar. Its helpful when you don’t have a full load and you have to wait. I just add a splash of vinegar to my wash and the smell is gone.

      I work in downtown Boston so in my world running shoes go with anything and everything! I meet a friend weekly at lunch for walks and we are in business casual…. Things get a little messy in the summer, lol.

      Tonight I am hoping that my new treadmill that got delivered yesterday works so I can take it for a run!
