I am really the worst today. I think it’s because today is a rest day from running so I didn’t get to run the weirdo out of me this morning. I did a quick 30 minute lower body workout and then made breakfast. And that’s when my first fail of the day happened …
I tossed out my toaster a while back because I figured I could use the broiler in the oven to toast stuff. This has worked okay in the past. It’s not always great because it goes from cold to burnt to a crisp if you’re not standing right there checking it the whole time.
I don’t mind burnt toast, but this was completely charred. Boo.
Where do you go when you burn the last roll? In the closet to hide (or still eat it in the privacy of your room).
Not really, I made something else and tried to give this to the cat. Oddly, he didn’t want my super burnt bread. Shocker.
The rest of the day was productive. I got a ton of work done, ran a few errands and even got Vegas this box (from Costco).
By this time it was about 4pm, too early for dinner but I was HUNGRY. I snacked on some sugar snap peas with hummus but knew I wanted something more substantial. I put a frozen chicken nugget in the microwave for a minute, squirted ketchup on it and devoured. The inside was a little cold in the middle, but yeah that happens. Don’t you hate when the outside of your food is super HOT but the inside is still frozen?!
I ate a few more bites of it cold but decided to put the rest back in the microwave. That’s when I realized the middle was not only cold but also completely pink. It was RAW. The chicken was raw!
I thought it was weird, but maybe just processed chicken and maybe just dark meat?
Meh. I didn’t think it was that big a deal until I took a second look and confirmed it was completely raw chicken. The frozen chicken nuggets are not cooked and need to be baked.
I took the package out of the freezer and realized – yep, I made a huge stupid mistake. It’s totally my fault, but I just assumed they were microwaveable pre-cooked nuggets. Way to go Monican.
So now I am freaking out because I ate raw chicken and I might get salmonella and super sick and die. I might be up all night with the runs (not the marathon kind). I might turn into a salmon and wake up tomorrow with fins (I think that’s what happens when you get salmonella).
I am so mad at myself for being so dumb. I could really get sick. Now I wait for the rumble and see what happens….

Oh no! We have done this with cooking brats on the grill. You think they are done…and then you realize that they are not about half way through. Not fun at all, especially if you don’t have a strong stomach!
Charmin says
Do you wear your running shoes all day? I should do that. It might make me actually go for a run rather than just think about it – then lie down on the sofa for most the day 🙂

Do people actually eat chicken done in a microwave? Must be an american thing!
Tracey Coleman says
Ok, I would be just as freaked out as you. Ewwww is what would be ringing through my mind, with a panic about what’s going to happen next. Have a meatless Friday today, even though it’s not lent anymore.
Jody says
Totally something I would do! Do you have a RER code for the rock n roll races this year?
Marie says
Yes!!! I did this 2 summers ago! I was cooking chicken on the fire and thought it was done…but the inside was totally raw and here was gross pink juices running out. I freaked out because I had eaten a few bites. I was so worried I was going to get sick. I took some high dose probiotics! I was totally fine though…but became a vegetarian shortly after because it grossed me out so much.

Lol you are hilarious! I have eaten raw chicken quite a few times before- mainly because i cannot wait to eat i am so hungry, only to then realize the chicken was still slightly raw. I have had salmonella twice. But I actually think it was from eggs 😉
Leslie says
I’ve eaten not fully cooked chicken before (not on purpose!) and I was fine. It was just one nugget, I am sure you will be okay!
Taylor says
Oh no!! I hope you don’t get sick!! I would definitely make a mistake like that too.
Judy says
Did exactly the same thing because we’re used to getting the frozen (but fully cooked) chicken nuggets and my husband bought a different brand that were raw inside and I didn’t pay attention to the packaging. The first one I ate whole and thought, “hmm chewy.” The second I took a bite out of and saw it was raw inside. For what it’s worth I didn’t even get sick beyond the mental anguish of eating raw chicken. But I prepared myself for a night of sickness by placing a bowl beside my bed and getting the toilet area prepped and clean for a night of hugging it.
Heather @ Polyglot Jot says
oh no! You might be okay since it was just one nugget–i would probably do something like that too haha!
Beth says
For what it’s worth, I think those nuggets aren’t made of raw chicken. If you look at the upper right corner of the bag, I think it says “fully cooked”. Many frozen items I get, included fully cooked chicken stuff, has that warning about heating to an internal heat. I think it’s just a safety precaution. At least I hope so, because I don’t want you to turn into a salmon! Though think about how that could affect your blog! Swimming tips, friendships with other fish…You’d have a whole new market! 😉
Kat says
Hahaha a FISH market. Okay, that was cheesy. 🙂
