You might be aware that I am a huge fan of hummus. Love it.
Same can be said of Sriracha. (See: My Sriracha diet of April 1st.)
But my third favorite sauce is Peanut Sauce. I think an easy peanut sauce recipe was one of the first things I made on RER back in the day.
Well, I had this idea to combine all my favorite things for a healthier version of peanut sauce. It’s lower in fat because I used Peanut Powder – but you can use ‘real’ PB if you desire. Plus it’s gluten and soy free because I use coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. Boom. Everyone’s a winner.
Peanut Sauce Recipe with Hummus
Vegan. Gluten Free. Soy Free. Awesomesauce.
Ingredients:
- 5oz Sabra Hummus (half a 10oz container)
- 4 Tb. PB or Peanut Powder
- 3 Tb. Coconut aminos or soy sauce (ss has gluten, so use an alternative if needed!)
- 1-2 Tb. Sriracha or more if you’re me
- 10 drops liquid stevia OR 1 Tb. sugar, more to taste
- 3 Tb. water to thin*
Directions: Mix all ingredients in your mouth and swish around a bowl. Add more or less water to desired thickness. Serve over rice noodles for a gluten free meal. Garnish with peanuts. Enjoy!
I boiled some rice noodles and toward the end of cooking added broccoli. Then, I tossed it all with the sauce and garnished with more peanuts.
Tip: You can save some of the pasta water and use that to thin the sauce if you prefer.
Question: What’s your favorite sauce?
Tedi says
I know I’m a little slow at getting around to reading this. But where did you get the soy sauce alternative? The coconut aminos? Every time I eat soy sauce I get a bad headache! 🙁
In answer to your question… I don’t have a favorite sauce.
Leah says
Made this last night with quinoa and broccoli and it was delicious! Thanks for the new idea!

I love hummus, I prepared a big bowl of it yesterday. I usually eat it as a dip, or on bread. Now I have a new recipe to try out!

This looks like a super easy and tasty meal. I wish they sold PB2 in Canada though

I’ve never had peanut sauce. New Celiac here though so I’ll probably try it. Thanks.
Anna says
Tess – if you have Celiacs, make sure to read the label on the soy sauce. Most contain wheat. Tamari sauce is the Gfree version of soy sauce. This recipe is not Gfree with the soy sauce in it.
Jess @wanderlustrunning says
This version uses coconut aminos so it actually is gluten free! But I’m sure Tamari sauce will work well, too.
runeatrepeat says
Tess, yes what Anna said – I used coconut aminos in my peanut sauce it doesn’t have gluten but regular soy sauce does.
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
I’ve never made peanut sauce but I am obsessed with nut butters. Weird. Favorite sauce is extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice with crushed red pepper.

I think it It worthy to be tried. The way you have explained it has been very informative
Anna says
This sounds delicious but most soy sauce is not gluten free 🙁 if you have a wheat allergy or Celiac’s you need to use Tamari sauce (gf version of soy sauce).
runeatrepeat says
Yes, I used coconut aminos because they are gluten and soy free 🙂 I need to put an * Thanks!

My mom made me the most awesome peanut sauce for topping up my noodles last week. It’s a bit spicy and she use whole peanuts rather than PB or PB powder. Over here, we call it “satay sauce”.
Natalie Darren says
Several Asian cultures make a version of peanut sauce. This one may not be the most authentic, but it’s really, really good. 🙂
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
I make my peanut sauce with A LOT of sriracha sauce. To the point that it becomes sriracha sauce with a hint of peanut.
runeatrepeat says
Me too 🙂 I added a lot more on top when I was done.
Amy @ runlikeabird says
Totally making this, this week. Thanks, Monica! If anyone is working on reducing carbs, I use those “miracle” noodles they have the tofu section at grocery stores. Fairly tasteless, but filling enough for me and AWESOME with tasty sauces/meats.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
Yum I love anything that includes hummus! Looks GREAT!
Ali says
I’m making this for sure. It looks so good and I’m always looking for easy peanut sauce.
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
sounds tasty! I’m a fan of mediterranean things and hummus is at the top of the list. I love to take kalamata olives, feta, olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice salt, pepper, oregano and garlic and making a marinade that I use on chicken or shrimp or over spinach and couscous. It’s also a great salad dressing.
runeatrepeat says
That sounds delicious!

Anything that includes hummus is a must-try. Cant wait to enjoy this!

I love peanut sauce.
My little boy decided he wanted my Thai salad. I put some peanut sauce on top and it stopped him in his tracks. Now I know how to protect my food.
runeatrepeat says
He doesn’t like it?! Boo.
