No Fat No Good

Hey! How’s it going over there? Over here it’s a busy day of running and eating the new gluten free Cheerios.

Did you hear General Mills is removing any stray wheat or barley from the oat supply of their Cheerios? Yep, now a few of the varieties will be gluten free! You can check out the details here.

Well, that was yesterday actually. Today I went for a run and then made my accidental French Toast Pancake again. I think this is going to be my breakfast everyday for a while. It’s weird but delicious and I love it.

Lunch was a big salad. Usually I’ll put sunflower seeds (good for your thyroid and delicious!) on my salads or some other nuts. I didn’t have any in the house today so I went without. No big.

But I realized after breakfast and mid-morning aaaand after lunch I was still super hungry. I thought maybe I was just having a ‘hungry day’.

Do you ever have days where you’re just hungrier than usual? And when you think about it – it really is hunger and not boredom or emotions or something?? Yeah. It happens.

But today I could not get satisfied. Finally I realized that I had practically no fat today. Fat (preferably healthy fats) are super satiating. They help keep you full and stave off random cravings. I actually didn’t have any good healthy fats in my house – I was all out of nut butter and nuts.

#Fail

So, I tried to put it off and get some work done but seriously – I was still hungryhungryhungry. I headed out for a super quick shopping trip to pick up some PB before I ate all my yogurts in one go.   And after having some bread with PB slathered on it as soon as I walked in the door I feel much better.

Eating No fat is No good! Noted.

In other news… a few people asked if Roxy and Vegas get along. They used to live together so yeah, they do. I mean, Vegas is still a cat = he doesn’t exactly love anyone. But he tolerates Roxy okay.

This is as close as they got to hanging out:

In related news: He is a remote hog! Look at his little paw and that ‘don’t try it’ face.

Question: What’s your favorite nut or healthy fat these days?

I get that way if I’m too low on carbs. Nothing will fill me, then I eat a tortilla or some bread, and feel much much better. I really like sun(flower seed) butter as a healthy fat!

I pretty much can’t get enough peanut butter in my life so that would be my fave healthy fat. Avocados are a close second.

My favorite fat = almond butter (when I can afford it). I’m seriously allergic to cashews, but I could eat a whole jar of almond butter given the chance. I haven’t had any in the house in a while, but when I do I just grab a spoonful right from the jar and eat it straight up when hunger pains strike.

Since I follow a paleo diet, the fats are essential: avocado, nuts and coconut oil (no soybean, corn or canola).

Glad General Mills is gettin’ on board the GF train!

Also I just wanted to add a really sincere Thank You Monican for this post. I often get the uncontrollable hunger you described, and since i’m recovering from some unpleasant eating-disorder-type habits, it’s really hard for me to cope with! This literally saved me 🙂

Perfectly ripe avocados and peanut butter. I usually stick to PB2, but when I need healthy fats, regular is where it’s at (No, I didn’t mean to rhyme). Also, unless I have a little fat in my meals, I get hangry.

I have avocado on rye bread or on Ryvita for breakfast and I love love love it! It absolutely sets me up for the day.

That said, it’s 11.15am here and I am already dreaming about lunch. That’s just the greed though.

Yes! I have some days where I am starving, but adding in some fats (like all the pb!) helps.

I like it when I’m the first to comment. I must catch a new entry shortly after you post. My favorite nut butter is Peanut Butter, no questions asked. I recently tried Kirkland’s organic peanut butter which is really tasty and a good price. I have hungry days sometimes. Today is one of those days. I have had fat, but I think I’ll eat a handful of almonds. Maybe that will help!
