The BEST Running Quotes

Hello! Need a little motivation? A lil nudge to the gym or your run?? Well, I got a tiny bit of inspiration for our perspiration! Today I’m sharing my favorite running quotes.

best running quotes blog 11 (450x800)

Most of the time I am fairly motivated to run. I kinda like it a little bit. But there comes a time in any race that I want to quit. Sometimes it’s at mile 2 sometimes it’s at mile 22, but inevitably I need to dig deep and think positive thoughts to keep going. This can happen on any run, during Spin class or life or workouts…

These running quotes are some of my favorites, but please share your favorite in the comments so I can collect more in my brain movies.

Ten Best Running Quotes

“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.”
-Bart Yasso

Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts. – Steve Prefontaine

If one could run without getting tired I don’t think one would often want to do anything else. –C.S. Lewis

running blog quotes 14 (450x800)

Believe that you can run farther or faster. Believe that you’re young enough, old enough, strong enough, and so on to accomplish everything you want to do. Don’t let worn-out beliefs stop you from moving beyond yourself.–John Bingham

This is from when I saw Dave McGillivray speak at the Runner’s World Hat Trick races in PA.

This isn’t about running specifically, but he’s a running icon AND I love running, it makes me happy and that’s part of the key to success right, find what makes you happy.

Even when you have gone as far as you can, and everything hurts, and you are staring at the specter of self-doubt, you can find a bit more strength deep inside you, if you look closely enough.

My boss gave me a Runner’s World “Tip-a-Day” calendar. Today’s had this quote:

“Running is the classical road to self-consciousness, self-awareness, and self-reliance. Independence is the outstanding characteristic of the runner.” –Noel Carroll, Irish runner and two-time world age-group winner at 18 and 19

Some great quotes. I absolutely love to run as well! It’s my happy place, my holy ground. My quote right now is Hebrews 12:1….run the race marked out for me. It just keeps me grounded in my own training, both physically and spiritually.

      Love these!

Running is something that I miss during the winter months…although I am so happy that I can do yoga indoors…I love the balance between stretching and strengthening and the endurance from running!

“First, do enough training. Then, believe in yourself and say ‘I can do it. Tomorrow is my day’. And then say ‘The person in front of me, he is just a human being as well. He has two legs, I have two legs, that is all’. That is how you mentally prepare.” – Haile Gebreselassie. (My favorite quote!!! Stuck on my wall with my old race bibs!)

Just keep swimming!!! It is such a good phrase to repeat to yourself when you feel like stopping.

And my own personal quote that came to me during a half marathon a few years ago when I realized my pace was 9:55 after being a 10:00-12:00 min pace girl…. “I am stronger and faster than I thought I was capable of and I won’t let myself down”

I love these! Of your excellent compilation, I would say the CS Lewis quote is a favorite. The quote that I play often in my own head and when I don’t really “want” to go is the last “Unknown”. So so many people cannot physically run. Someday I may not be able to run. I will continue to run and thank God that I can until the day comes when I cannot. It’s a blessings to be enjoyed, not taken for granted or squandered.

I have been recovering from a bad injury last summer so have focused all my attention on biking and waiting until my body is ready to run again. The last month I have been DREAMING about running, the sensation of escaping, the push to go faster, the full expansion of my lungs and the rush at the end. When I need that extra push I think about the reasons I run, so that I am strong, fearless, so that I can live a long life, because it is a commitment…. it seems cheesy and SO emotional sometimes but I started for myself and I finish for myself.
