I love traveling. I love the airport. I love the excited energy that buzzes around the airport. I don’t love having my first flight delayed on the tarmac 30 minutes, running to my second flight, seeing the plane is still there, but the doors are closed – and being refused on board!
I ran from my first flight with my heavy backpack and big video camera case 3 terminals over to my second flight. My backpack made my t-shirt dress ride up too high to be appropriate for anyone to see. When I got there the doors were closed and a worker said I was re-booked 🙁 Remember when this happened to me around Christmas?
Boo. What’s the point of being a runner if you can’t run to your flight? They automatically re-book you when they realize you are going to land too close to make it to your next flight. I propose they let you designate whether your a runner when you buy the ticket and put “*Runner” on your boarding pass. I could have made the flight.
Sorry for the rant, but I woke up at 4:30am this morning and won’t get to Mississippi until 3:30pm now. What a bust.
I was hoping BWI would have oatmeal in the US Air terminal (I saw it in the Delta terminal before) but they didn’t. So I bought some milk and fruit and ate it with my baggie of cereal.
Since I have time to kill I have spent the last 30plus minutes pacing around the Charlotte airport looking at my lunch options even though it’s only 10:30am. What else am I supposed to do for 5 hours? Well, besides take pictures of the trash cans…
I came across Sabarro, which I love to have big bites of when Ben travels with me 🙂
This yogurt place is a new discovery for me, but I don’t think I’m going to try it out…
because my one true love, Jamba Juice is here!!! And they have Pumpkin Smash! I am obsessed with Jamba Juice and used to buy one after every long run in Long Beach (the LBC, for those that know what’s up). I even have a “Powered by Jamba Juice” license plate holder. I am for real. Try the Pumpkin Smash. Do it.
So, ummmm…now what? I’m just hanging out at the airport I guess. Fantastic 🙂
I’m considering hitting up a bar and getting wasted or hitting up the massage place, oh wait – I’m poor. I guess I’m gonna stay here playing on the internet machine for a while!
See ya later 🙂

Missing flights sucks! I missed a flight once because my boyfriend at the time was too interested in the football game than paying attention to our flight time. Dummy. At least airports are fun! Well, I think they are. You can shop and buy tons of magazines and eat fun food at places that you might not be able to find elsewhere.

i love to travel too, i want to go somewhere every weekend, but definitely not into the flight delays, rebooks, cancels, all that. at least you have internet!

Ugh. That’s annoying about the flight!

I think you are too hard on yourself. Everyone has bad days. Honestly, whatever snacking you did could not be that bad. From what I have seen on your blog you don’t keep much junk food in your house. Just take it one day at a time and give yourself a little slack. I think you are doing really well especially with all the stress you have had recently.

I’m a long time lurker but just wanted to wish you luck in Mississippi and with your eating struggles. I too dealt with disordered eating for a long time. I’ve always been active but would constantly “ruin” my hard efforts by binging when I was bored. It took me until around the age of 30 for me to really get a grip on it. I think part of what helped was being married to a very understanding man (which it sounds like you are too) and allowing myself treats often so that I never feel deprived. I hope you too find your balance!

Good luck! And don’t worry about one day. The important thing is you have a plan that you’ll work out in the long run

Hi! I have been reading your blog for the past few weeks, but this is my first time leaving a comment! I just wanted to say that your blog is awesome, and the balance with which you live you life is inspiring. As someone who lost a lot of weight, and is also an avid runner, I find it really easy to go to extremes and be too restrictive. Reading your blog is always comforting and a great reminder that being healthy does not mean starving and exercising to extremes to boot. And you look gorgeous and strong!! I love that you have a Chick Fil-A milkshake now and then!
Hang in there..I sympathize with having to move far away from your family and closest friends (I recently had to do the same for my husband’s job). Just know that you are doing great things and inspiring others!!

You are strong, motivated, beautiful, and blessed with a loving family and husband… the changes you want to see WILL happen in time!
Good luck with your first big “on site” reporting gig… are you allowed to say what paper/publication you work for?

It’s okay to ‘live’ every once in awhile! Don’t beat yourself up 🙂 Running helped me loose the 35lbs I gained in college. The human body is not static – it’s always a work in progress!! You are doing an awesome job and serving as a great inspiration to others.

I had a snacky day too and let my nerves and emotions about things get the better of me. I’ve gotten better at giving myself little pep talks like you husband did. It may not be a healthy thing to do (to deal with emotions by snacking), and it is definitely something to continue working to get a handle on…. But it is a human thing. Be gentle with yourself 🙂 Have a good trip. I hope the story is a fun one to write.

I’m sorry you’re feeling down. You’ll get used to be away from home. It’ll just take some time. I’m sure once you get your car there, you’ll feel better with the freedom it’ll give you (spontaneous trips to Whole Foods?!)
Just focus on the positive things in your life and remember that today is a new day 🙂

hey there – everyone has their good and bad days… Ben is absolutely right, the only way to start feeling better after a “fall” is to just pick yourself back up. Hope you have a safe trip =) cant wait for SF!

Hey, I’m a lurker (I think…) but I wanted to wish you luck on your trip! You’ll rock it. I also wanted to ask, what’s the “30 minute rule” you have with hubby? I think I might need to institute it with my bf as well…
Shannon, Tropical Eats says
Good luck!!!!! I know you’ll do amazing 🙂 Love the website makeover.. very snazzy!

Ben is definitely right – we all slip once in awhile but all we can do is get up, brush ourselves off and make sure our next step is a sturdy one. Hang in there! Your 3 day trip home is just 10 days away!

Love the site makeover. All the best on your assignment.

I was wondering what happened to you lady!! Guess when you gave your site a makeover, I never got the new feed. Milkshake droooool.

Hey girl,
I know how you feel definitely. I read the blog almost everyday but dont comment often. I just wanted to let you know that I had a bad weekend eating wise (eating way too many cookies because they were there, practically had my hand in the cereal box all day saturday, etc.), but i knew I could come on your website and know someone else was going through the same thing. Your positive attitude (and running ability) has always amazed me. I know it can be frustrating to think “IM RUNNING ALL THESE MILES AND I COULD BE LOSING ALL THIS WEIGHT IF I COULD JUST CONTROL MYSELF!” (i have had these thoughts a lot lately since I am also training for a marathon), but we just have to keep going. Just know you have the love of your awesome husband and all the readers you inspire everyday! Keep going girl, we will both get there!

*I was, not I’m was… whoa that is bad writing, aye?
maria says
Good luck. I’m was a journalism major and I know how stressful stories can be. So keep your cool and you will do awesome, I’m sure! 🙂
And your husband is super smart… sounds like mine. He has a way of calming me down when I can’t get there myself. Which is awesome, for sure!]
Have a great trip.
