This morning I created the perfect runner’s recovery drink as part of breakfast! I’m super exited because it was delicious too! Recipe coming soon.
After breakfast I headed to the Solar Decathlon at the Great Park in Irvine. I heard about it on the news Friday morning and since the GP is so close I wanted to check it out.
The orange balloon is a signature of Irvine and it’s outfitted for Halloween right now!
20 collegiate teams from around the world were challenged to design and build solar houses. It’s super interesting since they are all different, yet very similar in size and use of resources. Admission is free, parking was $5.00.
I packed my lunch…
But, was tempted by the ice cream vendor. Hey, it was over 90 degrees out there!
Who am I kidding, I would have bought an ice cream if it was 9 degrees. Wait. Who am I really kidding that I would be somewhere that is 9 degrees. F that.
Okay, back to the buns.
Yesterday I tried my new-to-me bun tool and LOVE it! A lot of you asked if it was ‘Hot Buns’. I actually had never heard of that until it was mentioned and had to look it up. I guess it’s on a commercial that I’ve never seen? (Must not advertise during Real Housewives, which I find odd.)
Anyway. I bought the Bella Bun tool from Marshall’s for $5.99. It’s the Large Light color.
I loved it because it’s super easy to use and stayed up for hours. I have a lot of hair and it’s hard to keep an ‘up-do’ without a ton of bobby pins. This stayed up with 0 pins! You do have to pin fly-away parts if they come out, but I didn’t have any yesterday.
I cannot find the Belle Buns info online but you can get the Hot Buns on Amazon for $7.00. The dress is from Target, but a while back so it’s not online anymore. Here is a similar dress by Madison Marcus that’s $86.00 but it’s cuter.
The moral of the story is: I am too busy looking at food on Pinterest that I only know ‘hot cross buns’ and not ‘Hot Buns’ because all my boards are about food. And one is about running. The end.

I’m getting ready for 4 half marathon weekends in a row. Next weekend it starts in Montgomery, Alabama (on the 12th) and then the next three are here in Indiana. 🙂

Love the bun! We had gorgeous fall temps for my 20-miler this past Saturday (mid-60’s and a mix of sun and clouds) – bliss! Today it’s raining and we have a tornado watch… I was not aware they had tornadoes in PA but apparently they do…

your runner’s recovery drink looks delicious! i’m guessing watermelon is one of the ingredients. either way, i’m sure i’ll love it!
it was hot hot hot in pasadena this weekend, too! i kinda loved it 😉 not looking forward to the possible rain on wednesday, though.
C. says
Nice bun! Ha. I wish I had enough hair for something like that! Mine is far too fine.
Kelly @ Kelly Runs for Food says
I’ve always wanted to try one of those bun thingys, but I have super thin hair so I’m afraid it would show through and look really bad. It was weirdly hot in VA this week too, I’m ready for some cooler weather!
runeatrepeat says
They have dark ones and light ones, but just 2 colors. If your hair matches exactly you might be able to use it.
Chris says
It was 35 degrees on Saturday morning when I left for my long run and it was in the low 60s when I came back home. It’s hard to dress properly for those type of runs.
Caroline @ Adventures in Living Lean says
I just thought it was a sock bun…
We finally seem to have a little bit of a cold front coming into Georgia, so I’m excited for a high of 70 and maybe a nice run in the fall weather today!
Megan says
It was 85, sunny, and muggy in dc this weekend. Looking forward to the mid 70s this week!
Tartanjogger @tartanjogger.com says
It’s definitely autumn here: we did have balmy temps in the sixties over the weekend though! Wow! Back to the fifties today- summer seems a long time ago!
Sue says
Love the bun! Wish my hair was thick enough to put up.
Aurora@Fitness is Sweet says
I actually had a lot of friends from my school doing the solar decathlon-one of my best friends was down there this weekend!
runeatrepeat says
Very cool!
Ashley says
Do you think this would work with shoulder length hair?
runeatrepeat says
Yes, but get a smaller size. The diameter of this one would be hard to completely cover with shorter hair.
Aimee - funfitgirl says
It was only 40 degrees out this morning when my 10K started! Brrrrr ….but luckily the first half of race was all hills so I got warm fast. Beautiful blue skies though… It really was a lovely fall day for a race.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
It WAS fall in Pennsylvania but we traveled to NC this weekend and it is int he 80’s! It is crazy! The leaves are changing but it sure doesn’t FEEL like fall!
Christine @ BookishlyB says
You can also use a sock! Or conair makes a donut at Target.
runeatrepeat says
The donut didn’t work for me. I have too much hair. But this stays like whoa.
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
It was so hot these past few days, I don’t know where fall went. I was going to go on a bike ride, but it was too hot and I decided to go swimming instead. Thankfully it’s going to cool down after tomorrow!
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now says
I love your hair up like that! 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Thanks 🙂
Livi says
it was almost 90 here in SC yesterday. I love me some heat, but where is fall?!
Kailin @ Logs and thoughts says
It’s as far from fall here in Kona, HI, as you can get. Except the locals think it’s chilly because it’s been around 70 in the mornings 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Brrrr 😉
Cindy says
I can’t wait for your recipe for your after running recovery. It looks really good. Great hair up do! I have thick hair also and I have never tried that before.
Becky @ Olives n Wine says
It was FINALLY fall-ish here today in Chicago. Yesterday it was a bajillion degrees with 110% humidity. Gross. I’ll be in SoCal next weekend and the weather’s looking perfect – can’t wait!
runeatrepeat says
Are you coming out for Long Beach?
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
it’s supposed to be fall here but lately we’re having a bit of an Aug-tober. I think tomorrow the temps will finally drop a bit (but with rain).
I was totally thrown for a loop that your bun had been made with a bunmaker (is that even a word?). It looked AWESOME!
runeatrepeat says
Thanks! It’s a bun trick and I love it 🙂
Maria G says
It’s in the 50s here in Chicago right now – I work from home so I’m in my jammies but with my robe on too. We had a lot of rain yesterday so training in the preserve tomorrow will be FUN! (NOT!)
Jessica R @ fromthekitchentotheroad says
We have been having some glorious fall weather. The temps have been in the mid 60’s and sunny. When I lived in LA I remember freezing to death when it was 60 degrees. Now I love this weather. Summers here are disgustingly humid and winters are cold and snowy. Fall in Wisconsin is perfection. Right now at least.
runeatrepeat says
Ha! I totally freeze when it’s 60 🙂
