Hello from Detroit! Random, right? I’m blogging during my layover.
Sadly, they don’t have a Dunkin Donuts in this airport – that’s the main reason I travel!! (There is finally one DD in CA but it’s about 45 miles away.)
But, let’s go back to California for a minute…
Yesterday I packed up all my travel essentials – magazines, Quest bars, stevia and my laptop:
While I was packing I snacked on frozen mango. This snack has changed my life.
Then, I headed to my mom’s for a ride to the airport. Of course I had to raid her fridge for dinner. It’s the right thing to do.
The drive to the airport was semi-eventful because there was a bad accident and a complete stop on the freeway for about 15 minutes. Glad I worked in a time cushion this time – usually I’m running to the gate like my life depended on it!
And my love/hate relationship with red eyes continues…
I have the eye mask I got in China but it goes around your ears, not head and makes me uncomfortable. So, I made it work
The flight was freezing.
Next thing ya know I’m in Detroit talking to you nice people.
I’m headed to Florida to visit with Ben and his family on their annual trip to an island south of their home. They’ve been going for over 20 years and I’m glad to spend some quality time on the beach with them
And now the moment no one has been waiting for…
My Friday Favorites:
1. Mystic Tanning.
2. Coconut scented lotion. I love it.
3. This.
and this
4. 19 Kids and Counting. Yes, still love them. It’s so random since I wasn’t a big fan at first and now I’m obsessed. Also, I hope the oldest girl gets in a courtship (if that’s something she wants). I think she’s so pretty.

5. This 99 cent store find. Score. They might be awesome blended with rum, pineapple juice and ice. Allegedly.
Also – today is National Donut Day!!! I celebrated hard on Monday so I think I’m going to skip this one. But, I hope you celebrate big.
Question: What’s your favorite thing this week?
Sue says
Last week was yoga, yoga, y oga. I couldn’t believe I attended classes on consecutive days (Wed-yesterday Sunday).
Valerie says
Can I just say that I looooooooove that you put Sriracha on EVERYTHING?????? I love Sriracha! I’ve had egg with sriracha and ketchup every day this week. I did a little happy dance at a conference because they had the red stuff!!!! [I almost had to tackle a lady who tried to walk off with the sauce….]
BubbaRunner says
Frozen Mango? What’s the deal with that? How did I miss out on this? Did you put siracha on your veggies?
runeatrepeat says
I put sriracha on everything 🙂 (except dessert)

Hello Monica,
Okay…I know I’m asking you a lot of “technical” questions, but this one has to do with running gear. I’m wanting to invest in a Foam Roller (I’ve never had one). I’ve seen a few “types” and sincerely want your take. I’m not sure if you’ve had or tried more than one “kind.” Some of them are solid in material and another kind has an inner hard “roller” inside made of hard plastic (surrounded/enclosed by the foam, of course) it that acts to be a hard-core massager. I am willing to pay a bit more to make sure I get a good one that will both work real well, and last awhile. That being said, I’m wondering: What brand would you suggest? 2.) What length would you suggest (I’m looking at a 24″ by 6″ diameter)?
Thanks!
~Amy

My favorite thing this week is my favorite thing from last Friday — BANGS! It’s the best haircut of my life 🙂 Have a great time down here in FL!

My favorite thing this week is that tomorrow is race day! This will be my 5th half marathon and I can’t wait!
LauraMae says
I love that family!! The girls’ book is on my wish list! But I am REALLLLy loving my foam roller!
Molly @alsoranagain.com says
My favorite thing this week? Sleep! I’m recovering from running a marathon last weekend, and my coach has forbid me from running this week. I get to sleep in late every morning. Yep, it’s awesome.
Kelly says
My favorite thing this week is that season 2 of Orange is the New Black is here! AHHHH
Caitlin @ RunMimsie says
You were in Detroit?! I live in the area! You should swing back through in October to do the International Half or Marathon!! It’s the only one that goes through 2 countries AND it has a mile where you’re running underwater (in a tunnel)! 🙂 I did it last year and I’m gonna do it again this year! 🙂

Hello Monica,
I know that this is a totally unrelated question to this blog post, but I’m genuinely needing a bit of help with my Blog. I want to start inputting “ads” on it. I have reached out to a few other bloggers and they’ve noted that they go with Google AdSense. I signed up for an account, but I can’t figure out how to request Google putting on ads to my page. They had me “create an ad” but I just got so confused b/c when the ad was “created” it’s just a blank box. When I put the “Ad Code” into my page, again…just a blank box. I searched through your blog and saw your “Blogging 101” as well as other posts you did about blogging. However, (obviously) I”m more interested in learning about how you “set-up” being able to have ads on your page (so as to make $). I know you answers may not be appropriate as a “comment” to MY comment here…so if you want to email me, just let me know and I can let you know my email address. I literally seem to need a “Dummies Guide to Doing Ads On A Blog.” Ha!
Thanks.
P.S Oh…I love Quest Bars, too, those Coconut Dreyer’s popsicles look great, and I took advantage of National Donut Day and I got a Cinnamon & Sugar Glazed one!
Anyways, I look forward to hearing from you. I need help! Ha!
~Amy
The Silent Assassin says
How long did you leave the blank box up?! Google adSense takes about 36-48 hours to ‘activate’. Google adSense is trying to determine based on the content what ads are best to serve up. Try it again. Don’t take it down. Usually Google adSense will send you a confirmation email saying that it will now send ads.
Amy says
Hello Silent Assassin,
Thank you for your response and help. My request has been up for about 2 weeks. It gave me an “Ad Code” saying that I was approved BUT when I sign in, and click on My Account I have had the following message for about 2 weeks: “Your application for http://healthystuffreviews.com/ is under review. You’ll only see blank ads until your account has been fully approved.” I tried to figure out how to actually contact the Customer Service for AdSense to just call them or at least chat, but it just runs me through a series of “trouble-shooting” pages or drop-downs. Do you happen to know how I can actually speak to a representative there?
Thanks!
~Amy 🙂

We have too many Dunkin Donuts in upstate New York. Wish we had all the Starbucks that CA has. Lucky you 🙂 Enjoy Detroit.

Hands down…I got to chit chat with Jaime Walker from FitApproach. It was an awesome talk and she’s an awesome lady. We talked about fitness and blogging and life. Was just nice to talk shop with someone so passionate about fitness as I am. BUT, if Sunday counted as part of the week start, then it hanging out with the blends and the Monican! of course

I am obsessed with the Duggars right now, because I think Jill and Derrick are the cutest things on planet earth. They are so giddy and happy- and it is really sweet. Innocent and sweet love. Welcome to Michigan- I’m in Lansing, 1.5 hours from DTW. 🙂
Janelle says
I love the Duggars too! And I also hope the same for the oldest daughter. I think she’s the prettiest one….probably why she’s not in a courtship, too many creepers. Haha. I felt that after the proposal was awkward….like they really were trying hard not to do more than a side hug. Favorite thing this week was my son finishing school for summer break!!!! Have fun in Florida!
Renée says
LOL… I recently started running, and I came across your blog. I thought of you last night when I watched the finale of 19 Kids and Counting. Totally random, and made me laugh. I like it just as much as you, and I’m just as surprised by it. I think I am attracted to their wholesomeness. Is that weird? Enjoy your vaca. And thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Kimberly says
Commenting from Detroit … we may not have an Dunkin Doughnut in the airport but we do have a Running Fit store! 🙂

Haha that is a GREAT quote about “not being everyone’s cup of tea.” I def prefer friends that are more Jose Cuervo than Earl Grey 🙂

Land of the ultimate donut – paczki!
Leslie @ Life Begins @ 30? says
I don’t watch the Duggars, but I watch other TLC shows and catch previews of it. The whole courting thing is funny and fascinating! Maybe I should check it out. 🙂
I had a donut to celebrate National Donut Day this morning. I’m so glad a coworker brought them in so we didn’t miss out!
This week was corporate challenge track week. Our Mile Relay won gold last night-it was a fun race and it is always fun to get medals!

I am so into the duggars lately too. The whole “side hug” thing is fascinating. I watched a marathon of episodes last weekend.
My favorite thing this week would be the 100 yards I ran on national running day. I’m almost out of the woods with my injury so it’s the most I have run in a month. :). Enjoy your vacay with the fam-in-law.
runeatrepeat says
Did you see how Jill and Derek (right?) did a front hug when he got back from Nepal?! Ha. They kinda said it was an accident or something and wouldn’t happen again. Busted!
