Hello! This weekend I posted a picture of my pre-race bag and shared that I bring along Ricola to have one or two before the race. This is super random, but I got the idea from my SIL Heather (aka the mom to my favorite tiny person). Heather used to be a waitress and said she used Ricola during long shifts to keep her throat from getting dry and keep her sinuses feeling clear. Great idea!
Sidenote: I need to share a picture of the beautiful tiny person Heathie made. I love her. The last time we were hanging out she pinched my cheeks like I was a little kid. Someone must be doing that to her. Ha!
Okay back to the topic of the day…
I have worked with Ricola in the past and had a ton of the Ricola Extra Strength drops and the Honey ones the company sent me. I don’t get sick often so they were just hanging around until I decided to just have one. I like the flavor and do feel like it kind of opened up my nostrils a little.
In the past I’ve eaten ginger hard candies before a race for some extra sugar and to help calm my nerves. When I ran out I started using Ricola and have been for a while now. I keep them in my running fuel box…
Ricola has a ton of different strengths and flavors for you to choose from! Glacier Mint is one of their extra strength versions. (Ironically, my throat got itchy after the LA Marathon and these have kept me from coughing my life away.)
I used them before the Irvine Half Marathon last month and again this weekend before Surf City.
I feel like it makes sense for so many reasons…
- A little extra sugar before a race
- The menthol is refreshing (The Extra Strength drops have a syrup center that makes me feel like I can breathe better, even if it’s just the cool air I love the feeling of the freshness on my throat)
- I drink coffee on the way to a race and that leaves bad breath
I know it’s a weird concept to take something usually considered medicine on a random day, but it works for me. And you should do what works for you before a race. Plus, I do appreciate that I don’t get sick often so I have the liberty to use these when I want a lil perk.
Speaking of NOT being sick…
Ricola is holding a sweepstakes for you to “Call in Well”
You enter by texting or calling in well – seriously.
Text or Call Ricola and tell them what you would do on a day you stayed home from work or school even though you were not sick.
I would probably run and eat… it’s sorta my thing.
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10 how great do you feel today?
1 – Death … 10 – Best day ever you can run 3 marathons today.
Disclaimer: this post is in partnership with Ricola. All opinions are my own.

I’m at about a 3.5… I’ve been sick for a week, and ready to feel better. I’m actually really ready for a great workout and to breathe thru my nose… I have a running fuel box too!!

I’m probably a 4-5. I was sick last week and this week I have a nagging sore throat and it’s hard to swallow, which I hate. I had two days off of work, which made for a super long weekend and I got lots of extra sleep. So I am annoyed with the sore throat. But I feel well enough to work out. Go figure.

4? 5? I’m really tired, but otherwise doing pretty well. I’m hoping to get to bed early tonight…or on time for a change.
