Run Eat Repeat

Ch-Ch-Ch Chia!

Breakfast

I finally tried the illusive Chia seed today! I have been wanting to get my hands on it for a while but never asked where the “Chia seed department” was at my local health foods store. Well, yesterday I bought a container of this magical seed.

I am especially intrigued by the Chia seed after reading about it in “Born to Run“. The author of the book says eating chia seeds are the nutritional equivalent of drinking a smoothie of “spinach, salmon and human growth hormone”. Plus, the Tarahumara eat it and they are almost super human so I had to try it! IMG_3623

I added a tablespoon to my oatmeal this morning. Then, I went out and ran 56 miles. Just kidding. I eat oatmeal after I run or I risk barfing on my shoes, and it’s so cold here it would probably freeze on my shoes and I would have throw-up sneakers for the rest of my life.

I placed my super powered Chia oats in a convenient PB container 🙂 No muss no fuss.IMG_3626

See the dark specks? Those are the seeds. IMG_3629

My initial impressions: I couldn’t taste it at all and it did give the oats a slightly thicker consistency. I will have to give my full review after I eat them for a few days, so stay tuned!

Check out my latest Breathe post – Falling and Getting Back Up

Marathon Training – I did 5.89 freezing miles today. I need to add another layer to my running gear. I was dying out there!

Never heard of Chia seeds. Please do write a review when you feel the effects. That bit about the 56 miles made me LOL.

Monica – I’m having trouble keeping up with you. One day in the warmth of SoCal, the next day back on the East Coast! My head’s spinning.

If the chia seeds don;t work out, at least you can grow a nice ‘fro

Will definitely have to try chia seeds… For some reason I thought they’d have the texture of poppy seeds… I’m guessing not 🙂

Now I’m going to have that stupid chia song stuck in my head! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to try them too, looks like yours are the ground kind? Do most people eat them whole? I think the only time I’ve seen them they are whole…

Confusing. I’m interested to see if you notice a difference!
