Hello! How’s your week going?
Mine is busy since I was away from my computer for a few days last weekend exploring Maine. It was awesome, but the emails piled up
And I’m headed to the IDEA conference in LA tomorrow so I want to get it together before I go!
I’ve been going back and forth with running and eating posts on RER lately and haven’t done too many life casting posts. So here is what’s going on with me this week…
My little brother is staying with me for a few days while my parents are out of town. He’s 12 and just old enough to be hired as my lil helper for the week.
I paid him in ice cream yesterday. I bet today he’ll want a Yogurtland raise.
This morning I did my new Tensday run. I am digging it. I would like to increase my weekly mileage a bit and this is helping.
Breakfast was Overnight Mang-Oats. I prepped them last night so they were waiting for me when I got back from my run. Delicious! Recipe coming in a bit.
Is running everyday good, bad or crazy?
In my instagram comments someone asked, “Do you run everyday?” – I get this question A LOT.
No, I do not run everyday. I run 4-5 days a week. I always take 2 rest days a week. Recovery days are just as important as run days. Your body needs time to rest and rebuild your muscles. There is a reason rest/cross training days are built into EVERY running training schedule you will find online – they are a key part of training too.
Some people can run everyday and not get injured. They are the few and the proud. Okay, maybe that’s the Marines. Yeah, I bet they can run everyday. But I am not a Marine. And now we’re off topic!
If it seems like I run on the daily it’s because I make it a point to blog about my runs (and exciting eats). I’m not doing a big song and dance about my rest days but they happen every week. Just like I don’t make a big ‘to-do’ about my so-so meals. Consider this a reality show where I am editing 17 hours of content to 5 pictures and you get stuff like this…
More than stuff like this…
Speaking of reality TV…
RHONJ: I am still on team Jacqueline and pro- team Gorga.
HoneyBooBoo: I think Pumpkin is stealing the show this season. I love Alana. Heck, I think I was her at some point in my life…
Now I gotta get to work! See you in a bit!
Question: What’s going on with you this week?
Sauna Belt Price in Chennai says
Now a days only i start running. Normally i run weekly 5 days.
Eleanor says
I have just start running couple of days ago and it feels great.I am running every morning as of now.
Angela says
I find that running makes me feel really tired afterward. Does this happen to you?
Mary says
I’m running 6days a week at the mo in the build up for an ultra but would normally only run 5. I like most physical activity so am quite happy usually to fit in some cross-training on my non-running days.
How to reduce hair fall says
I have run 4 days a week, I take a rest another days!!
Christine says
I run 3 days a week, and right now I’m doing a spin/cycle class once a week and I try to do weights twice a week as well (on one of the cardio days). I also go to a Tabata interval class on alternate weeks, in place of a weight workout. So that gives me one to two rest days a week. Which is enough, I feel like I’m being too lazy if I don’t work out 5 times a week! I have a recumbent bike at home, so if I don’t feel like going to the gym, I’ll watch television with my kids (Spongebob Squarepants or something on Teletoon Retro like Tintin or the Flintstones) while I’m biking since it’s downstairs where the tv is. Also if I want to watch something on my PVR (which is downstairs where our big tv is) I’ll usually bike because it’s right there and I feel too lazy to just sit on the couch and watch tv! And since I have a weight tree, I have no excuse to not do some weights after and stretching etc.
To answer Monica’s question though, it’s a pretty normal week for me, except that we will go to an amusement park in our city (called Tinkertown) with my kids (9 and 5) on the weekend. Yay summer!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
I couldn’t run 5 days week so more power to you, girl! I CAN run 3 days a week and I’m working on adding in a 4th from time to time to see how my body (and lungs) can handle it. As I’ve been strengthening my lungs and foam rolling/stretching more, the 4th day of running has been possible! 🙂
Sue says
It’s the long Eid weekend over here (Thur-Sun) – lots of Eid/Raya open houses aka food galore and catching up with friends.
I don’t everyday too – Mondays and Fridays are typically my off days.
Ashley says
The comparison to the blogs and reality TV are spot on. Most people could paint a pretty sweet picture with MTV quality editing…good thing you are a pretty freaking sweet Monican and don’t have to edit nearly as much as Snooki.
Chelsea says
I love that we watch the same shows hahaha LOVE me some trash T.V.
I don’t run everyday. I run 3 days a weeks, occasionally 4 days. I do a lot of cycling in between. It works great for me. That’s what is important, whatever keeps you confident for your races and injury free 🙂
Love your blog!!
Presh says
My week is consisting of preparing for my final. It’s such a joy. I def don’t run everyday. I need my rest days!!!
Diana says
I’ve been running every day lately, well for the last 133 days to be exact. I had some serious personal stuff happen, including being laid off from work, so I decided I would run every day until I got a job. My running streak covered the second half of training for my first marathon, and now training for my first 50k that is just over 2 weeks away. I have run a total of 1183 miles, which has averaged out to be 8.9 miles a day. I take rest days each week where I run 1 or 2 very slow, very easy miles.
And you know what? I’m tired. I have loved doing this streak, but I’m looking forward to it ending after the 50k. I have gotten too caught up in the numbers. I have enjoyed it, but the rest of my fall race season will be shot if I keep going.
Christine @ BookishlyB says
I don’t run, but I try do something active everyday, whether its a tough yoga class, long bike ride, or just a walk around the neighborhood with the dogs.
Just out if curiosity, how many miles a week do you do (since you’re aiming to up your total)?
runeatrepeat says
I don’t know actually because I’m such a spaz, but I want to get to 50 miles per week and all I know is I am not there. I probably do about 30-35 right now on average.
Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says
10 miles in one day?! I’m just trying to complete 5 miles in one week 😉
MartinaNYC says
I never run more than 4 days a week-I’m training for the marathon and the plan we are following is pretty intense between tempo runs, speed workouts, and long runs, so I surely need those exra 3 days to recover! Plus, I made a point for myself: I’d raher finish later than taking the risk not to finish at all!
Decalo says
Love the pics. You’re so right about taking that time to recup. Team Gorga over here!
Liz @ The Girl on Fire Now says
I can’t run every day – I get injured and burnt out
Julie @ RDelicious Kitchen says
secretly love RHONJ 🙂 .. i live in NJ .. not all NJ is like that craziness! haha
Jodea @ chillichocolatelove says
Love that picture of you on the bed! That was me yesterday, trying to get over a Monday night wedding reception party that was very fun but got very messy! And I had work the next day! I’m off to Sweden Friday for another wedding. Help!
Nicole says
I’m trying to amp up my training for the Ventura marathon next month (holy crap!). I am also attempting to eat better (make smarter choices at every meal) after a weekend in SF and eating lots of Ghirardelli!
Side note: I work across the street from Mattel and they are having their annual summer party. They have tons of tents and games set up with a huge bbq lunch and a pretty killer band. #wishingmycompanydidthat
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I typically run at least 6 days a week sometimes 7 but if I don’t take a rest day it is VERY slow short mileage on my normal rest day – I usually just judge it on how I am feeling. The key to running almost if not every day is taking care of your body – it is a MUST. Stretching, hydration, fueling, and foam rolling are all KEY.
Chloe@SearchingForAHealthierLife says
Ha I would love to run everyday, but my body wouldn’t permit it 😀
Liz @FitLizzy says
I try not to run every day, but it is tempting. I few weeks ago, I made myself rest because I realized I’d run 8 days straight. My brother is a marine – they only really run 3 miles a day; I think you can make running a daily thing if you enjoy shorter runs. (Which I do!) Ten miles, every day? Bad idea. But my body likes me if I give it a thirty minute run/jog (almost) every day. 🙂
Lauren says
No way could I ever run everyday! I run 3-4 days a week now and that’s tough enough. Plus I love other types of workouts so much too (spinning, bodypump, etc.) that there’s no way I could fit it all in and still get my 1-2 rest days a week
Sarah G. says
I have so many people ask me if I run everyday. I guess because I’m training for a marathon, they just assume I run 10 miles every day of the week, which is definitely NOT the case! I run 4x/week and do bootcamp/crossfit 2x a week with one rest day.
This week, just working and prepping for a roadtrip back home to upstate NY this weekend for my godson’s baptism! 🙂
Sarah R. says
HoneyBooBoo – Sugar Bear is stealing this season for me. I need a boyfriend that committed!
Casey says
Definitely have to take advantage of those rest days!
Amy @ crazysweatymommy says
I think if I ran everyday I would get sick of it…I run 4 days a week…getting old, this body needs a breather!
Taylor says
I wish I could run every day, but I’m pretty sure my legs would break. I think running every day is possible if you’re genetically gifted, stretch/foam roll religiously, and get massages frequently.
Nikki @ GrabYourKicks says
I definitely don’t run everyday. I think for most people that would do more harm than good. I run 3-4 days per week. I still get exercise in on those off days (yoga, walking, core class) or I get restless! I usually take a full day off before a race day.
TartanJogger tartanjogger.wordpress.com says
I agree, 4-5 days per week is plenty running!
This week, I’ve run the Dublin RnR half marathon, and I have the Perth Kilt Run on Saturday, so it’s a busy one here, too! 🙂
Laura says
I used to run every day, but I couldn’t run without pain (I played soccer for 20 years – I just retired last year – and I have a long injury history; my ankle ligaments are like old rubber bands!). I found that by cutting my mileage and cross-training, I significantly improved my race times, looked better and felt better all-around. Cross-training: it works! And taking a couple of days to recover doesn’t make you a wimp!
Tom T. says
So…tell me more about these ‘overnight oats’ they look tasty.
Lauri says
I typically run 3x/week and on the other days I cross train or take a gym class (Boot camp, strength classes, etc)
This week going to see Justin Timberlake and Jay Z in concert – Holla!
Kim says
I can only run about 3 days a week any more – too old and too many injuries. I still do some type of workout every day it just can’t always be a run.
Matt says
I wish I could run every day, unfortunately age or genetics isn’t on my side. I always manage to get injured if I don’t take 2 rest days a week, usually the day before and after my long run on Saturdays.
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
I don’t run every day, either. I crosstrain by cycling, so I rarelt take a day completely off. I try to do at least something every day, like taking a walk or some yoga.
I just got a new job, so I’m getting trained on Friday, and possibly starting work on Saturday! I am also planning on going on a nice long trail run on Sunday with the running club.
