How To Know When To Wash Your Hair

Happy Monday! Let’s do this.

Pre-run:

This morning I had some hot tea and a piece of toast with almond butter before my run.

Then, I set off for an easy 8 miler.

every mile counts (800x600)

Make a wish!

Post run eats

included toast and eggs cooked with spicy laughing cow cheese – this is the best new combo of my life.

eggs for days (800x600)

And now the title of my post comes from a little lesson I learned this morning…

How to know when to wash your hair:

1. Every two or three days depending on how much you’ve kept up styling between washes and how oily your scalp gets. Everyone is different in this area and some people can go a lot longer.

2. After a disgustingly sweaty long run or workout and you’re going to smell like a dirty sock if you don’t lather up.

3. When you find almond butter in your hair. Yeah, this happened.

Seriously Monican, get it together…

how to know when to wash your hair 4 (600x800)

Here is a Web MD article on how often to wash your hair.

Warning: Reading Web MD may lead you to believe you have hair cancer.

Question: Did you wash your hair today?

I did, but now I kinda wish I would have left the almond butter in there for a snack…

My hair is really thin and fine so I HAVE to wash it everyday. Otherwise I get comments from my Hus about how he could fry an egg with the grease from my hair. 🙂 I have dry shampoo, but i’m just not a fan. It takes the grease out, but my hair is ALSO naturally curly, so after the dry shampoo, it’s just a massive frizz ball. The only time I will go with the dry shampoo option, is if i’m putting it up for a workout.

I washed my hair last night, but it was definitely time. What I need is something about when to shave my legs. I usually end up looking like a grizzly bear before I buckle down and do it. I should just do laser hair removal and be done with it.

I have to wash my hair everyday. If I didn’t workout/run/etc I wouldn’t. But I sweat. A LOT. Not washing isn’t an option. Maybe I haven’t tried the right Dry Shampoo because even that doesn’t seem to be enough. Maybe I just sweat way more than everyone else. Awesome.

I actually did wash my hair, and won’t again until Thursday. Ever 3 days since I dye my hair blonde.

I wash my hair after every workout cause I can’t stand having sweaty stinky hair. I also always have hair products to control my for so dry shampoo doesn’t seem to work for me.

My stylist recently scolded me for washing my hair every day. Mostly because the color I like ranges from deep red to strawberry blonde. It fades SO quickly if I do every day. I’ve cut back to about every 3 days and it’s totally fine. But yeah… sometimes after a super sweaty run? You just gotta.

I have extremely thin and fine hair, couple that with an oily scalp and I have to wash it daily. 🙁

I use Pantene’s Dry Shampoo. You can get it at Walgreen’s or Target-it’s like $5.99 and it works great. I spray it in my hair when it is a little greasy but the dry shampoo takes that right away. I always wash it if it’s a heavy workout or I sweat a lot.

I haven’t washed my hair today! I wash it every second day though, because I put a bucket load of product in it to keep my curls / waves semi tame.

My hair is so fine that the most I can leave it is one day with no washing. I guess that’s alright bc I start to feel pretty dirty after that anyway if I dont take a shower

I have to wash my hair everyday if I work out. If I don’t workout then I let it “rest” and just put it in a bun/ponytail!

I usually wash daily due to being a sweaty mess. Right now it’s an oily mess since I didn’t work out yesterday and it hasn’t been washed in a couple days.

I generally wash my hair every day because I work out in the morning and then go into the office for work. Sometimes I will skip on Sundays because I tend to do a lower key workout like yoga or walking and I generally don’t get truly dressed that day or do anything 🙂

It really depends on your hair type. I have a thick mane of fine hair and I do better with a smoother, drier formula. I personally like Batiste, Not Your Mother’s, and the Suave one in the yellow and silver container best and in that order. If you’re sensitive to smell though, stay away from all of the Suave ones. I’ve also tried the TIGI Dirty Secret one and I loved the smell (like Sweet Tarts!) but I think it would work better for course, thin hair. I’ve gone from a twice a day shampooer to a twice a week shampooer.

Thank you! I have thick, coarse red hair that I tend to straighten more days that not. It’s not curly, just poufy and needs to be tamed!

I did wash my hair, because of reason #2, aka not wanting to smell sweaty and gross. But hey, maybe the almond butter would be conditioning?

I wash my hair everyday and sometimes twice a day. I think it is a little obsessive, but I just can’t help it. I did just recently buy some dry shampoo and used it once and it is awesome! I may be washing my hair less now.

I never wash my hair everyday. Just too much effort honestly plus I know it’s healthier not to. Thank goodness for the invention of dry shampoo!

i didn’t! I’ve got curly hair so I try to only wash it twice a week. (always after a long run!) but I condition it daily.
I colored it yesterday so today I didn’t wash or condition. It’s MLK day and there are only 4 million people in NYC today instead of 8 million so I’m not offending too many people. LOL!
