Hunger Meter

Uncategorized

20 Aug

All the comments on my “Hunger” post were very informative! Thanks 🙂

The most common signs of hunger were:

  • Irritability (two people want to kick-ass when they’re hungry!)
  • Stomach growling
  • Emptiness in your stomach

And it seems that many readers struggle with reading their hunger. The IE book says you should rate your hunger on a scale of 1 through 10.

1 = You are starving

5 = You are neither Hungry nor Full

10= After Thanksgiving stuffed

You should eat when you are at a 4 or 3. If you wait to long you risk overeating. Basically, if your body wants food and feels like you aren’t giving it what it needs all hopes of moderate eating fly out the window.

If you’re at anything higher than a 5 you probably aren’t hungry, but  may be looking for food for another reason.

It’s been very hard for me to Honor My Hunger since my hunger meter is broken. I wish I bought it from Costco and could return it for a new one (they have a good return policy). But I am working on fixing it. I’m going to try and use the scale to gauge my hunger for a few days. I don’t want to become obsessive about it, but a few days might help 🙂

Walk to Work

I took my Garmin on my walk to work and it was 3.4 miles. It took me about an hour! I guess I can be a slow walker sometimes (most of the time I’m fast, but I had my backpack). I got to work sweaty, good thing I had a change of clothes!

I packed a big salad topped with Couscous and Chickpea salad for lunch, and an apple. Good stuff!DSCN1017DSCN1018

Only 2 hours later I was hungry again so I Honored my Hunger and ate my baggie of trail mix. It was a lot, but perfect. I also ate a few pretzels with almond butter…it was about the drip when I took this pic!!!

Another 2 hours later and I ate my grapes, I think I was less hungry and more waiting for my ride at this point 🙂DSCN1027

Since Ben picked me up from work today I didn’t have the chance to come home and eat randomly, which is good. But, I’m still excited to try my 30 minute wait method tomorrow.

Dinner was a Veggie Burger wrap, carrots and honey mustard pretzels. And bites of Ben’s leftover Chinese for luck.DSCN1028

After dinner we took a walk and talked about life, liberty and the pursuit.

Now I’m eating ice cream frozen yogurt and blogging. There are few things in this world that make me happier than ice cream 🙂DSCN1030

Tomorrow is a Rest Day – guess I’ll be checking out the apartment ellipticals once again!

Blog Feedback

Thanks for the blog feedback. I’m really trying to improve the site over the next few weeks/months and I want to give the people what they want 🙂

I’m glad there were some takers for the Sex Talk, but Ben would prefer that I start an anonymous blog for that. Check me out at “The Vagina-mono-blog” Soon!

Just kidding, that wouldn’t be anonymous now would it?

    Hey girl! My RD gave me this worksheet to track my hunger cues, and it was so eye-opening and helpful! It had columns to document each of the following: time, hunger level, what I ate, what I wanted to eat and how I felt at the time. It really made me realize how long I went between eating and why I tended to over or under eat in certain situations. A lot of “lightbulb” moments! You can probably make your own, but let me know if you want me to email you a copy 🙂

    I saw this the other day and thought of you and the journey of trying to regain your sense of hunger/fullness. Since I am going through the same thing, I thought this was interesting and I would pass it along. I just might have to try it…. ;p
