Hello! I am at a zoo. There are so many animals here in Florida it’s like a whole new world. First there’s the usual animals… Ben’s family has several dogs and a cat. And a neighbor dog that comes over to hang out for a few hours each day. It’s funny and random.
This is Bear. He is seriously the cutest dog. But he probably wouldn’t score super high on the dog IQ test. After I took this picture he barked at my phone because it freaked him out. People who want to take care of exotic pets may love these isopods.
Barney looks like a homeless dog. They got him from the shelter about two years ago. He is smart, but again looks a little like a rata.
I love Miller from next door because he’s sooooo big and always carries around a stuffed animal.
He and Bear are best friends. And that’s Rufus in the bottom right corner. He’s afraid of storms and thunder, which means he was not made to live in Florida kinda like me.
George is an orange cat that’s probably twice as big as Vegas! I love big cats and I cannot lie. He and Bear are friends, but the other dogs just wanna catch him.
And finally, I got a new pet today! I took a walk in the rain and found a teeny tiny frog. He’s so small I thought it was a bug at first! There were a bunch of them jumping across the sidewalk. I shall name him Francis the frog.
Just in case he was a Prince…
In food news, I am happy Ben’s fam doesn’t really judge me (to my face) about my particular food habits. If I was only here a day or two I would just eat what they eat (read about this in my Integrative Nutrition book and want to elaborate soon). But since I’m always out here for a week or more I go to the store and buy a bunch of stuff.
Along with this, I was asked to share how I cook vegetables.
I roasted brussel sprouts for them on a previous visit. And this time I sautéed green beans kind of like I make green bean fries. They are trying to get healthier and I’m happy to have my nose brain picked.
Truthfully, I am way to self involved to judge what other people eat (which is good if you wanna be my friend and eat hot Cheetos all day, do you) but I do like it when someone asks me questions about healthy eating since I love talking about it!
This morning my run was rough. I am so not used to humidity! I did 10 miles with some walk breaks.
And since I don’t have spray sunblock I had to spread lotion sunblock in the part of my hair. Fancy.
I do love the views though!
Question: What’s your favorite vegetable and how do you prepare it?
I need some new ideas!
Natalya Seabrooke says
What a cute doggie! I love all of your pets. I also have a cat and a dog at home and they are both very big. The frog that you found is lovely! Do you keep him/her at home? Give me some tips, please as I intend to get a frog very soon.
Kate says
Are those bug repelling stretchy bracelets you’re wearing? Do they work?? I’ve been considering getting some because I hate spraying on tons of bug spray just to go outside for a run.
Denise says
I roast asparagus or brussel sprouts in the oven with coconut oil, kosher salt, and red pepper flakes.
Stacey says
Cauliflower or broccoli roasted.
I live close to where you are visiting and have seen so many of those tiny frogs. I had one on my arm the other day and thought it was one of my dog’s eye boogers until I went to brush it off. Gross, but true.
runeatrepeat says
Ah! That is crazy. They are as small as bugs.
Marissa says
I love roasted anything! Mixed veggies, sweet potato, mushrooms and I mix in a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper on a cookie sheet and bake @ 425 for 30 min. So yummy!
julie says
I cut carrots into ff shapes and roast. I also dip cauliflower florets in a flour and water batter, bake, and top with hot sauce
Losing Lindy says
toss fresh cauliflower in olive oil, garlic (powder or chopped), salt and pepper and then broil…so yummy
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
My two favorites for fall are prob roasted brussels sprouts and roasted kabocha squash. It’s so delicious!
Kaelene @Unlocking Kiki says
All those animals! So much cuteness happening around there:)
Tracey says
My favorite vegetable is summer squash (zucchini too). I cut the squash and either season it and cook it straight on the grill or put some garlic and onions into a foil pouch with it and cook it on the top rack of the grill. It ends up steaming nicely and the onion and garlic add a nice touch. I’ve made it that way with eggplant, but the eggplant is too soggy.
Krys says
Right now my favorite vegetable is spinach – I always liked spinach and now that I’m back on the Green Smoothie bandwagon I can have as much as I want with kale and carrots 🙂

haaaaa i totally have to sunblock my part too! Especially if I braid or part my hair in a different way than usual, then I DEFINITELY need sunblock!
Spinach and kale are my favorites. I put them in smoothies, scrambled eggs, as a side dish, as a main dish… If I could put them in my cereal, I would! (I wouldn’t. that’s gross.)
Meagan Leanne says
I love cooked greens! Beet leaves, kale, spinach… etc. I can’t stomach the idea of green drinks so I’m quite happy to eat all my greens!
Sara @ Oats & Rows says
It’s a tie between roasted broccoli and sautéed zucchini!
Heather says
I use lemon juice alot on roasted veggies!!! Brussel sprouts, asparagus green beans, etc. With salt and pepper, easy and simple!
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
I have also been on a Brussel sprouts kick. They are my go to food this summer. Oh and fresh cut tomatoes with mozzarella.
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
I’ve been grilling zucchini and eggplant on the barbecue. Delicious.
I’m also into cucumbers later. Just dip them in hummus though.
Elena says
I’ve been eating a ton of cucumbers with hummus but I put sriracha on the hummus!
Sheena @ Paws and Pavement says
I love sweet potatoes. My favorite is too slice then up like fries and sprinkle with olive oil, salt, pepper and bake.
Bethany says
Asparagus on aluminum foil on a baking sheet with a little lemon on top, baked around 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Yum!
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
I love roasted Brussel sprouts but I stink at making them. Your green beans look delicious!
