Run Eat Repeat

I’m Freaking Out Man

Breakfast· Uncategorized

21 Dec

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. Turns out I am not very pleasant under the following circumstances:

1. When I can’t run

2. When I’m cold

3. When I have to help Ben get his car free from being stuck in the snow (see #2)

I also learned/confirmed a few things about myself:

1. I don’t like snow

2. I am a pessimist

I totally had a freak out yesterday when I realized I will not be able to do my last long run for the marathon. The sidewalks are super icy and slippery today and will probably be the same tomorrow 🙁 I freaked out when I pictured myself at mile 16 of the marathon, unable to keep running. I am scared that I will have to walk a lot of the race and I’m frustrated that I can’t run here.

I know it’s not the end of the world if I walk the last 6 miles of the marathon (I took a lot of walk breaks for my first one). But, I am very frustrated because I wanted to improve my time and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Also, I kinda wanted to hang up my marathon running shoes, but I would be more at peace with that if I hit my goal time.

If I hadn’t married this guy DSCN0068and signed an apartment lease (which I am counting down the days till it’s done) I would be on a plane to CA as we speak (“Hi Mom! I’m moving back in!”)

My plan to stay in shape inside:

1. Take a bunch of sleeping pills so I can spend all day California dreaming

2. Realize running outside will not always be an option so I will run on the treadmill

3. Do some 20 minute Yoga Downloads for my sanity and peace

4. Take walks when I can 🙂

5. Look into DVDs or make up my own boot-camps

Today I hit up the treadmill for 6 miles. Wow – it’s been so long since I did that regularly it just seems like torture now. Adding some Pitbull to my playlist does help though. I just want to jump off the ‘mill and dance when I hear it! Leave a comment about whether or not you like Pitbull or if you never even heard of him. Don’t tell me loving the Pitbull is a Hispanic thing…he has great booty shaking music!

My breakfasts just keep getting later and later and bigger and bigger because I’m starving by the time I eat! Today I made a big smoothie, bagel with PB and a pear. I don’t know why the heck I made a smoothie because now I’m freezing! Brrrr! IMG_3390

On the bright side – I am going to California tomorrow night!!! Woo-hoo! I will be blogging all the action live from SoCal, so don’t worry that you’ll miss my pessimistic rants. I’m here all week folks 🙂

Good post. I learn one thing more challenging on different blogs everyday. It is going to all the time be stimulating to read content from different writers and follow a bit of one thing from their store. I’d favor to use some with the content on my blog whether or not you don’t mind. Natually I’ll provide you with a link on your net blog. Thanks for sharing.

Can I just say what a help to search out person who really knows exactly what they are discussing on the internet. You actually realize how to take a major issue to light and allow it to vital. More people should read it all and understand this particular side of the story. I can’t believe you are not very popular because you clearly have the gift.

I like Pitbull!! Definitely some good booty shakin’ music. 🙂 It’s one of the songs I commonly hear coming from the Zumba class at work and I always want to dance!

I agree about the yak trak suggestion (although I’ve never tried them, just wanted to) or possibly doing a modified long run when you get to cali? I’m not sure if it’s too close to the big day or not though… Don’t listen to me, I’m sitting here with a bag of frozen veggies from a 2 month old marathon injury. lol

      Have a great Christmas!!

Don’t fret too much about all of the snow. I lived in DC for 9 years and can say that over a foot of snow is not common in that area. It should warm up enough to melt within the next few days and then you can get back out there for a run. Also, would you consider doing a modified long run when you’re back in Cali? Instead of 20, do 15. It might boost your confidence without killing your legs.

Two things came to mind after reading this:

      – At least now you know!! You’ll never have to think “what if…” about moving to a different part of the country/climate. Now you’ll feel more confident in whatever location you and Ben choose next.

      – One of the ONLY things that keeps me going through awful winters (and, it’s not foolproof… I maintain that there is very little good about Jan/Feb) is trying to embrace each season. I know it sounds cheesey, but in the winter you have the perfect excuse to hibernate, cuddle up and watch movies, etc. 🙂

I would suggest getting a pair of YaxTrax. They attach to the bottom of your sneaker and keep you from slipping on the ice & snow. While its damn near impossible to run in a foot of snow, once the roads are plowed you could run regardless of ice with the yax trax. Make sure to get the kind that have a strap. Good luck. I hate the snow and I lived in NY my entire life.

I’m sorry your having a hard time in the snow : ( I’ve lived in Buffalo, NY my whole life and I still despise getting stuck in the snow. I also despise the cold (<20 degrees).

I definitely know what you mean about missing California. I just moved to Upstate NY and every time it’s freezing I just think about how I could be in california with my boyfriend and my family. At least you have Ben there to keep you company! I’m alone in the cold! Just remember all the great things you have!

As for Pitbull, I kind of love him (no, not just because he’s hispanic). His songs are ridiculously catchy! They’re always on my gym playlists. “I Know You Want Me” is soooo catchy!

      I heart Calle Ocho!

I am in the same place but I have to train for the marathon, no matter what. I hate the snow and the cold too, and have actually given up running under such conditions for too many years. Therefore, I am not willing to do so again! But it took me so long to reach this decision, and either way, I still haven’t tried running in the snow!

I love pitbull! Sorry about the long run. 🙁 You can do 20 on the TM. It will suck but you can. Another blogger said to change it up on which treadmill you use every 5 miles and do something different so you change it up. Miles 1-5 easy, 5-10 interval things, 10-15 change incline, 15-20 new playlist or something. Also, don’t discredit all of the AMAZING training you’ve already done! You’ve been rockin’ the training program and missing one long run in the 4 months you’ve been doing this will not make a difference. You have to ease up on yourself chica- you’re going to rock it.

Don’t freak out because you missed a run. A) you can run 20 on a treadmill. Yes it’s completely ugly and horrible and tedious and you will doubt your very existence while you do it BUT think of how great you’ll feel knowing you’ve done that. B) Missing one workout – any one workout – is not going to make the marathon a fail. Come on! C) Give yourself a conservative pace target in the race. Go under race pace for the first 6, hit race pace for the next 10 and then see what happens. If all else fails allow yourself one minute walk every mile. The worst strategised race I ever ran I BQed in…

It’s not that bad, the snow goes away. Spring is beautiful here. =) Just try to keep it all in perspective. It’s temporary–soon you’ll be back home.
