Hello! I got Invisalign today! This is kind of random, but I want to share the process with you from day 1. I made a quick video to share my “before” so you can see how I talk right after getting it. I also want to share why I got Invisalign. (This is NOT a sponsored post. Just saying because I’m using the brand’s name a lot.)
I have been thinking about it for about a year. At my 6 month dental check-up last month I asked my Dentist in Bellaire Tx about it again and decided to just go for it. I debated it for a while because it doesn’t really look like I need it.
– I had braces in high school from downtown Chicago dentists. So my teeth look pretty straight.
– When I mentioned it to a few friends they said it doesn’t really look like I need it.
– BUT on camera/video my bottom teeth look crooked. No, it’s not the end of the world but something that I noticed a while ago.
My bottom teeth just aren’t the same height so they look crooked on video. Last year I asked the dentist if they could just file them down so they’re the same height. Um, apparently that’s not a thing. I guess I made it up. HA! Classic Monican. Those who have other dental problems like missing teeth or want dental implants can still achieve a beautiful smile through a dental implant surgery. These implants can replace your missing teeth and may also help prevent dental issues and gum diseases.
The dentist said Invisalign Braces Pflugerville could help re-align my bottom teeth in a straight line and this would get them to be the same height.
I didn’t do it last year, but kept it in the back of my brain movies for a while. Since I’ve been doing more videos lately I’ve noticed it more (check out my YouTube Channel).
I realize that my bottom teeth look crooked but this wouldn’t be an issue if I didn’t open my mouth so much when I talk. I’m very enthusiastic so talking loud and big and making crazy hand gestures… that’s just what I do. I don’t want to change how I talk OR be self conscious about it. Being very animated is a part of your Monican. So I could just fix my bottom teeth since that’s just a physical thing and keeping being me. Seeing a dentist like Gabriel Hershman is an investment in your long-term dental health.
All right. Count me in. (Find out more about it here if you’re also interested)

How I talk just 10 minutes after putting them on for the first time and how I justified this kinda superficial purchase.
In non-teeth news…
This morning I saw a weird duster tree on my run…
AND I spotted a unicorn at the 99 cent store! Note that it’s $3.99. Damn The 99 is hiking their prices!
I don’t even remember what I had for breakfast, probably the same thing as always. But I did snap a picture of the same lunch as always. Impressive food blogging, right? It’s predictable but it’s what I like…
Oh! And Pineapple Coconut Spark is back while supplies last!!
Last time it was sold out in 48 hours. I missed it the last time and luckily was able to score some from SkinnyRunner. I should probably buy extra to share…

Do you mind sharing what Invisalign costs? I am interested but don’t have any dental coverage.

I’ve been thinking about doing it for several years… I also had orthodontic work + braces for my entire teenage existence but thought I was too cool for school in college and stopped wearing my retainer. My teeth were okay for a while, but around age 27 the bottom teeth started becoming uneven at a rapid rate, so when my employer offered a higher level of dental coverage that includes adult orthodontics a few weeks ago, I signed up. I’m seeing the dentist in a few weeks for a cleaning and a consult, but I’d like to hear about your continued experience. I’m a teacher so I have to talk a lot for a living, and I’m concerned about the difficulty of enunciation (I teach little readers- how I make letter sounds is a big deal). I’d also like to hear if they bother you when you run… I’m super fussy when I run and little things like a loose thread flapping make me go nuts (or jingly keys in the pocket of the guy on the treadmill next to me, or a sock that just doesn’t feel exactly straight, or sticks that look like snakes because sometimes they’re actually snakes, or… yeah, I’m fussy).

Hi Monica…. I have had Invisalign for 6 weeks now. I’m doing the express version where you change aligners each week for a total of 10 weeks. It’s amazing! Initally, I had some trouble with soft tissue pain from where the aligners would rub but that went away quickly as I my gums toughened up. The only real downside I can think of is that I like to drink coffee throughout the day and snack. it’s not really feasible to do that and wear them for 22 hours a day as recommended. It has helped me cut down on my mindless eating. So that’s a bonus in itself. I can’t believe how quickly my teeth have moved in just six weeks and I am so excited for the last four weeks. The orthodontist to tell me that I may need a series of refiner trac The orthodontist to tell me that I may need a series of refiner trays. I am hopeful that I won’t but if I do it will be worth it to have a perfect smile. Also, you never have to justify why you decided to do something for yourself. Superficial or not, if it makes you feel better that’s awesome and well worth it. I hope you have great results!

I honestly hated the invisalign. I had to wear them for 17 months and it was torture for me. I am on the run all day long so I would eat a massive breakfast and then not eat the rest of the day. I had a lot of attachments and also had some difficulty taking the aligners off. Sometimes I felt like I was going to rip my teeth out. My teeth also got very loose during the process while they were shifting. I am relatively happy with the results but wonder if traditional braces would have been better. I purchase retainer brite on Amazon to clean them every day and also a tool to help remove the aligners. Good Luck to you and keep us posted. Oh and I HATED only being able to drink plain water during the day when the aligners are in…….

Thank you Teresa. I am surprised they are leaving my teeth so sore. How does the retainer thing work? I hadn’t heard of that.

I pick up my Invisalign next week and am looking forward to starting it. Hope you’ll share any initial tips and tricks. I have heard others recommend Colgate Wisp disposable toothbrushes for on the go. I’m going to grab some this weekend

I am in the last 2 weeks of my 20 week treatment. Its been a bit of a pain, but am very happy with how things have turned out. I did the treatment for the same reasons you are doing it (except that I dont post videos 🙂 )
not sure what your treatment period is, but getting through 20 weeks, is a lot like sticking to a training program – and you just have to focus on the end goal during the non-fun parts. Sometimes the aligners can be sharp on the inside edges – I suggest getting dental wax. it will really save your tongue!!! for me it was only on a few trays, and only for a few days.
also, when I really felt like I was “over it”, it helped to look at the future trays I’d be wearing (my dentist gave me the first 5 trays, then I had a check up, then I got the last trays). when I looked at the upcoming trays and could see how aligned my teeth would be, it was encouraging.
so, bottom line is that its a bit of a pain, but totally doable (kind of like running a marathon) and you will be happy at the end.
I hadnt heard about people having to add more time at the end, though – not sure I’d be up for that …I’m pretty happy with the results as they currently are!

Was your Invisalign comped?

No, that’s why I said it’s not a sponsored post – I felt like it seemed like it 🙂

I have Invisalign now. I also had braces as a teen but my teeth moved after not wearing a retainer. I got Invisalign assist, which is an express program, but if you need additional aligners past your first series, you don’t have to pay extra. I thought it would take six months. It has been almost a year now. My advice would be to expect to have to do additional series of aligners. Everyone I read about ended up getting additional aligners – I thought I would be an exception but I was not. I’m on my third series of aligners now and hope to finally be done in three months. I was pretty bummed my teeth didn’t look how I expected them to after the first series, so I wanted to give you this advice so you can be prepared. Another thing to know is that if you do need a second series, you have to wait 4-6 weeks for them to be manufactured and the aligners can get really disgusting after you’ve been wearing them for more than a month! Make sure to brush, floss, use retainer cleaning tablets and Colgate phos-flur ortho defense mouthwash.

Oh forgot to add that once you get your attachments (should you need them), the Invisalign no longer looks invisible. Looks like you have weird bumps on your teeth (which you do). It’s noticeable in pictures.

I had braces right after high school and I wear my retainer every.single.night. I actually just got a new plastic retainer (kind of just like an Invisalign) and I love it!
J says
I had regular braces about 35 years ago and did invisalign about 3 years ago because my teeth had shifted. I did wear my retainer the first time for the prescribed 6 months, but now orthodontists know that retainers are really a lifetime commitment. I still wear my invisaligns at night 3-4 times a week to keep my teeth straight. In fact, just broke my top one and got a new one this week, so am in a bit of pain since he wanted to move a tooth that had shifted a bit.
Lauren says
I just started Invisalign too! I’m a week into my first tray! I had braces as a kid and after college two of my teeth started to shift. I had people also say it wasn’t noticeable but it was to me. So after like 6 years I finally decided to go get it fixed! Ill be interested to hear how you like it! I think you get to a point in life where you just do you 🙂

Yep, I had braces, the most traditional kind, when I was 16. I actually sort of liked it because my teeth were REALLY bad. I already have a tiny mouth but I have huge teeth, so I actually have FOUR teeth taken out for my braces. And then I had four more wisdom teeth taken out…
