Happy happy! How’s it going?
Today was pretty busy with work and as soon as I was done I jammed out the door to meet my friend Becky for a walk. We haven’t seen each other in months and she just ran her first half at LB this weekend so we had a ton to catch up on!
Ben cooked up turkey burgers while I was gone and I put one on a salad for dinner. (I stopped at Sonic on the way home for a Sprite Zero.)
Just the Tip Tuesday: I LOVE chocolate. Love it love it love it. And I like to enjoy some every day, but it’s so easy to ‘over do it’ with my favorite food.
TJ’s has some good dark chocolate covered treats like edamame, nuts and ginger that help slow you down as you snack. Well, at least the ginger does because it each piece ends with a little kick so I can’t just shovel it in!
Side note: Is it funny that I’m a ginger and I love ginger now?
Side note part 2 – Growing up I NEVER heard the term ‘ginger’ to refer to red heads. I think I heard it somewhere in blog land at first. So, I don’t think of myself as a ginger, but every time I eat it I feel self conscious that there’s a little joke in there somewhere
Paige says
Thanks for that just the tip! Will be picking some up on my next Tj’s trip. I first heard the term ginger for redheads on Southpark. Also, I’ve been highlighting my hair since I was ohhh 16, and decided to grow out my natural color a few months ago – turns out I’m part ginger (strawberry blonde-ish,) too! haha
Amber K says
I was an adult the first time I heard the term “ginger.” Most of my family is a ginger, and if I try to go blond my hair will turn orange. I may be a brunette, but it’s hiding deep within my genes. My husband’s biggest fear is that we will have an orange-headed child. I think they’d be adorable either way 😉
Iris says
I want to try hoc plate covered ginger! Huge fan of both 😉
Jessica@SweatIsMySanity says
What’s the red stuff you put on that salad? Is it ketchup? I MUST know…too funny. Yeah, kinda sad about the ginger thing though because I’ve been hearing red headed kids are getting bullied at school by being called gingers in a bad way. Kids are so cruel. Love your ginger hair though, always wanted a pretty shade of red.
runeatrepeat says
Yes, I put ketchup on the burger 🙂
And yeah, there is this whole meanie movement to be mean to gingers on a certain day of the year. Not cool 🙁

Are you still following a meal plan from that nutritionist person you talked to via the internet? I could have sworn it was something to do with your thyroid or something?
Just curious and how you were feeling and doing weight loss wise!
runeatrepeat says
She didn’t give me a meal plan as she is more of a holistic health coach and not a nutritionist. Yeah, I was talking to her as a way to naturally help my thyroid. We basically were working on tweaks I could make to my diet for that… I’ve stopped eating so much soy and cabbage (and related veggies).
It’s indirectly related to weight loss so that hasn’t really been my focus (I was just hoping one would help the other). I didn’t weigh myself last Wed because I didn’t want that to be on my mind while I was running the marathon – I should have weighed in today though. Busted. I’ll do it first thing tomorrow 🙂
mary @ minutespermile says
i’m not a huge ginger fan, except when it comes to tea. oooh i would kill to have a sonic here in DC!
Maureen says
I blame South Park for introducing the “ginger” phenomenon! Kudos to you for embracing it…I know a few friends with red hair that just HATE the term, which of course makes people tease them more 🙂
Eating as a Path to Yoga says
I first heard about gingers from Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live.”
Jennifer Cullum says
I will have to try it!!!
Cari says
i LOVE dark chocolate ginger 🙂
Jenica says
Those candies sound great, though I must say that chocolate covered edamame makes me wary…
Jena says
I LOVE ginger candies! One of the little health food stores here sells bag of them. I have to avoid that place otherwise I come out of there with more than one bag!
I’d never heard of a red head being called a ginger until recently – I think I first saw it on my youngest sister’s FB page – She kept referring to herself as “ginger.”
STUFT Mama says
I’m going to have to find those ginger ones, I need something to slow down my obsession with Trader Joe’s dark chocolate covered goodness in a tub. Ha.
Sue says
I love the ginger teas they typically serve at the end of your massage seesions.
Krissy says
I LOVE the Trader Joe’s chocolate covered ginger. It’s so delicious! I really love anything chocolate, but those are especially good.
Tyra says
What about ranga? Short for orangutan. Is that just Aussie slang? I don’t know, but I love it. I went rang for a couple years, so now I feel like I’m allowed to call people that!
Dani @ Run Daniella Run says
Ever heard the phrase “only a ginger, can call another ginger ginger!” Actually its a song LOL…anyway that is my dumb humor. I have a ginger and I love her 🙂 She is 3.5 and I think she has the most beautiful red hair, she says its yellow. We are working on it.
simone says
love the ginger nickname… I was at a mls soccer game in Vancouver a few weeks ago and the crowd was screaming ‘ginger ninja’ at this one player and I loved it (not too sure why), anyways one of my best friends is a ginger and she is now referred to as ginger ninja by all of our friends
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
I need those! I tend to get a bit carsick on occasion. Ginger is suppose to help with that and it would give me an excuse to eat chocolate. Win, win!
K says
Chocolate covered ginger, taken in the red-head context, sounds kinda kinky.
It’s not just me, right?
runeatrepeat says
Between the ‘tip’ and that, yeah it’s a little kink 😉
Brittany @Berries and Barbells says
You just taught me something new. I have never heard of red heads being called gingers!
Bree ltc says
Have you heard of Tim Minchin? If you have extra time, you should youtube him in search of his song, “Prejudice”. It’s a bit relevant to your topic today.
Also, I really, really enjoy reading your blog. You’re so not pretentious and you don’t get all defensive when people say stuff that’s not so nice in the comment section. You may use sarcasm (which is awesome btw) but that’s how you role. I think you’re a dang clever writer and just someone who people would love to have hanging around.
runeatrepeat says
I’m looking that up! And thanks 🙂
Bree ltc says
*roll. It’s late, I know the difference.
Katie M says
You’re the Ginga Ninja! Cute last pic of you too… and if fro yo is ginger juice, I want to be a gingie too! I’ve dyed my hair red before, does that count?
Coco says
You do know Ginger from Gilligan’s Island, right? That’s got to be on Nick At Night or something …. Have you tried the Cheribundi Ginger Cherry juice? That’s a combination that will wake up your mouth!
Sheila says
I saw the title of the post and thought you were writing about my kids wrestling. I was all, “I find chocolate covered ginger in my living room every day!” 😉
runeatrepeat says
Ha! Your kiddos are the best 🙂 I might steal the strawberry one…
Sheila says
On certain days, I just might let you. 😉
