Let’s Have a Geodesic Dome Party

My Life

What is a Geodesic Dome Party? More importantly, what is a geodesic dome? It’s a structure  made out of a series of shapes to form a dome or sphere. I don’t know, I just know Ben has been studying them and made a mini-geodesic dome recently. I helped him finish it Saturday and we had a dome party yesterday!

This is me climbing up and Ben standing on the dome. It’s hard to tell from the picture but it’s very TALL and BIG!! I was scared and it felt very high. I think it’s something like 12 feet high and I don’t know how big around!!

Ben’s a mechanical engineer and has always been fascinated by geodesic domes and dome houses. So he figured out how to make one strong enough for adults to climb on and the inside can hold a few big hammocks.

He works on UAVs and flying taxis (very different from domes) so this was basically a lil fun hobby? My hobbies are running and eating, which suddenly seem less impressive. And I’m okay with that. But it is kinda ridiculous to build something this big just for kicks.

Random craving… every year at Marco Island there is a happy hour with Munchies. This year I had to miss it because I was on a conference call. But I couldn’t get Munchies out of my mind! So, I picked some up at the store and all was right in the world.

In honor of the dome party / just because he’s nice, a neighbor brought over home made fries. He has a deep fryer at home! That’s legit. He brought them over in a full size paper grocery bag. I was excited.

After dinner we celebrated the dome! Ben put a ton of research and physical work into this. It’s super strong and both of us stood right on top of it.

This morning I ran to the beach. It’s super HOT and HUMID, but I’d rather run in it and deal than skip a run.

Always ask a stranger to take a picture of you when you run on vacation. It’s a nice memory and switches up the camera roll filled with food pics and random points of interest that you won’t care about later (oh, is that just me?).

I ran 2.85 miles today! It doesn’t sound like a lot, but for me it’s amazing. I’m still very new to running (and I mostly jog) so I was pumped to have a longer workout.

That dome looks awesome! I’m jealous of your backyard jungle gym, haha.

The heat and humidity seems to be battling us all. It is that time of year. No matter how many times I write or read about how to be prepared, it’s still a battle. Although….we’ve had a ton of rain here. My last workout, yesterday: 9 miles in the humid rain. I was glad it was raining!

    Wow, very impressive Ben!!

This morning was rainy and cool in Boston, so I did a Piyo workout w/my June Summer fit daily workout (lots of squats, pushups and situps!)

Takin’ it to the dome! Was this for work or just a personal thing? Either way, a lot of work went into it!

I ran three miles and felt great. Slowly getting back to training mode. So I am thinking of purchasing the Hoka shoes. They felt great but still having a hard time with how they look! I know you’ve been running with them lately and I’ve read great reviews.

What a sweet dome party. I did a bootcamp HIIT workout and then taught it immediately after. I think they were confused by my tomato red face but they got over it 🙂
