Happy Monday! How’s it going?
I had a nice, relaxing weekend so I’m happy.
I feel like there are a lot of 2 week, 5 week, 52 week Clean Eating / Advocare / Insert Your Fave Cleanse / Challenges going on lately. I’ve been watching other’s weight loss and toning progress and getting super motivated!
Examples: Janetha’s 24 Day Challenge and Mama Laughlin’s 2 Week Cleanse.
This time of year is always a challenge for me. I LOVE all the holiday food that Oct 31st – Jan 1st bring – Reese’s PB Cups, Pumpkin Pie, Stuffing, Eggnog, Tamales…. Yes.
But, I often end up feeling out of control and in the past this is the time of year when I join Weight Watchers out of desperation. For whatever reason WW doesn’t work well for me so I end up quitting.
(I know, I could have real problems so I’m not complaining just talking to myself online.)
This year I don’t want to repeat the cycle so I’m doing my own mini-5 week challenge to stay accountable to myself. It’s nothing crazy, but a personal plan to try and stay ‘normal’ (which is obviously hard for me). I just wanted to share my brain thoughts this morning and let ya know I weighed in, took pics and checked my body fat yesterday (for the first time in months) to keep myself in check for the next few weeks – I’m aiming to maintain during this time more than anything else!
{forcing myself not to say my usual inappropriate phrase after “maintain…”}
Last night I made an amazing and ‘clean’ dinner of eggs with asparagus and my roasted butternut squash recipe. Love this.
Now I am off to try and get in front of a few blog posts before Thanksgiving is here. I plan on logging off Thursday except for the obligatory T-day dinner picture.
In other Food news…
In other news – did you see the Food Network’s live feed thing where Giada almost chopped off her finger? I just caught the end of it when it already happened, but the way they were talking about the cut it seemed like a big deal! <- pic on that link of her finger.
I am 100% convinced that will happen to me one day because I have NO idea how to chop stuff. Plus I have been told I “open boxes like I have a death wish” – which happens daily with all the stuff I get for RER! RIP Monican.
I want to go to culinary school, but that’s not in the cards so I hope YouTube is a sufficient replacement…
Question: Are you working Thursday or Friday?
This post is really amazing. Thanks for stopping by us. Fully recommended your blog…
I like that idea of maintaining. I’m going to vow to do the same.
I am working on Friday, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Oh, man. I just sliced my finger when I was trying to cut open a package of cheese for a snack the other day. It was really gross, but it has partially healed now, thank goodness.
I really need to lose some weight, but I think during the holidays it may not be the most practical. Maintaining would be good!
We are closed Thursday & Friday. YAY!!! Thursday my husband & I are volunteering for the Gobble Gallop 5K at the YMCA by our house then I hope to get some miles of my own in. Then on Friday we leave for Florida. I’m super excited to be doing the Space Coast half marathon on Sunday.
Working both Thursday and Friday. As a nurse, working holidays comes with the territory. We’ll have a fun potluck to keep spirits bright!
i think maintaining is the best game plan for the holidays! last year i did a challenge with my gym called the holiday hold ’em challenge and we just had to maintain our stats from halloween to the new year. it was fun! you got this!
I have both days off from my full time job – but I’ll be running, blogging and eating still!!
This time of year is hard for me too, especially with all the sweets. I am going to try and limit the sweets and focus on eating lots of protein and vegetables. Losing a couple lbs between now and New Years would be an added bonus.
And to answer your question, nope no work on Thursday or Friday. Monday either 🙂
Not working Thursday or Friday (we’re not open) and I think I might take 1/2 day tomorrow since I’m hosting Thanksgiving!
Last Feb, I lost the top of my middle finger to a mandoline slicer. I have regenerated somewhat, but the nerves are gone! So it feels pretty much numb. I know, I know. Safety first! I haven’t been able to use it since. YIKES.
Oh my gosh 🙁 That sounds horrible.
Funny you should mention ww- I just joined this afternoon. I find the points are easier to track and plan, as opposed to counting calories. Your dinner looks delish!!
Not working, and so thankful! But I’m also thankful for the people who do work thankless jobs on Thanksgiving, like doctors, nurses, EMTs, firemen, and military.
I’m also thankful for the people who work on Friday so my sister and I can spend quality time together in the stores 🙂
I need to make those eggs after my run!!! YUM!!!
I am a retail store manager so I do work Friday. However, the mall my store is in opens at 8pm on Turkey Day 🙁 Thankfully one of my employees volunteered to work the 8p-12a shift. I think it is ridiculous that we are open on Thanksgiving.
Yikes that cut looks bad! And now I’m following her on IG, score 🙂 i have to work Friday and my hubby has to work staff duty on thur… Army speak for a 24 hour shift 🙁 second year in a row 🙁
NO! One of the best things about being a school counselor, school schedule, holidays off and of course summer break!
Yup, unfortunately. 🙁
Thanksgiving is not celebrated here except by expats and those who have lived in the US. But we’ve had so many celebs/festivals during the year, so can’t complain much.
that dinner looks legit! also– I totally understand that about these holiday weeks– especially with pie in the fridge and cookies on the table. It’s easy to get sugar-ed out and just keep eating! I aim to maintain too– I feel better and in control of my life!
Eating all my main meals on a salad plate is how I keep things under control this time of year. It helps that I don’t love chocolate, so all the sweet treats are pretty easy to pass up, unless it has peanut butter or caramel then it’s all over.
Technically I’m not working Thursday or Friday, but I am a stay at home mom, so theoretically I don’t get a day off and therefor am working. I’m just looking forward for the 1k Turkey Trot I’m doing with my 2 1/2 year old…it’s her first official race!
We’re off Thursday and Friday, I have much beer drinking planned instead. I’m the same with sharp objects, yet I’m still the designated box-cutter-upper in our house (and with Amazon prime our box consumption is ridiculous). Every time I whip out the box cutter my husband runs in fear, though we’re both sure I’d only hurt myself.
I wrestled in high school, and November was always a busy time with wrestling meets so I had to keep weight. Well, one year I got to have two thanksgiving dinners. When I weighed-in at my next practice, I had lost two pounds. Ever since then, I don’t stress too much about holiday eating. (Of course, I’m now about 60 pounds heavier than my old wrestling weight, so maybe I should.)
Dealing with family will be work. =)
This is definitely the “slippery slope” season. I think the idea of just trying to maintain is genius!
Eeek! I’m dangerous with knives!
Good for you- accountability is good. I’ve started today, too- I have a dress to fit into for a wedding on 28th Dec, and I’m now struggling with the zip….. time to sort it out! :p
I’m trying to finish my current project (season 1 of “Low Winter Sun”) by Wednesday. I’m in charge of the turkey and gravy for the family dinner Thursday and then off Friday and doing my 5K on Saturday, after which we’re catching “Catching Fire,” no pun intended. I thought about doing something like you starting Monday, not because I’m gonna eat all the things but because there are a lot of things I will eat I normally wouldn’t. So there we go.
I am off after tomorrow. Let the holidays begin!
No work for my this holiday Weekend. Unless you count hosting for my parents, my brother and his new girlfriend, and the in laws 😉
Happy holidays!
