Paso Robles Wine Tasting

4 Jul

Yesterday we woke up in Paso Robles, CA. It’s central California wine country. It’s also where Ben and I got married <3 eagle castle

The birthday boy was ready to take wine tasting by storm!IMG_5828 (600x800)

First things first, breakfast!IMG_5830 (800x600)

Second things, second – wine tasting!

Our first stop was Castoro CellarsIMG_5831 (800x600)

Dam Fine WineIMG_5836 (600x800)

Castoro is sold at Trader Joe’s. I only like sweet white wines, so their Muscat is really the only one I would get.IMG_5839 (800x600)

IMG_5840 (800x600)

Next stop was Eagle Castle, where we got married. Awwwww.IMG_5848 (800x600)IMG_5851 (600x800)IMG_5855 (800x600)

This was the room our reception was in. It brought back to many memories. Made my heart ache.IMG_5857 (600x800)IMG_5860 (800x600)

IMG_5865 (800x600)We had to buy a bottle to celebrate with later SmileIMG_5862 (800x600)

Our third stop was the winery that made me appreciate wine – Rotta. What caught my attention even more was Rotta’s dedication to quality, with their state-of-the-art Cellar Cooling System.IMG_5884 (800x600)IMG_5866 (800x600)IMG_5868 (800x600)

Wine tasting and taking pictures is like rocket science.IMG_5877 (800x600)IMG_5878 (600x800)IMG_5879 (800x600)IMG_5883 (800x600)

Wait, we got a good one!IMG_5874 (800x600)

We cut wine tasting short in favor of seeking out a tourist trap for lunch – Pea Soup Anderson’spea soup andersonsIMG_5889 (800x600)IMG_5890 (600x800)

If you go to a restaurant known for a certain dish, you have to try it. It’s the  (foodie) law. The Pea Soup is good SmileIMG_5892 (800x600)

The bread is not good. It’s served cold, the rye is bitter and the onion flavor is blah.IMG_5894 (800x600)

Luckily, they gave me an entire avocado on my salad so I am happy.IMG_5895 (800x600)

I took a picture like this the first time we went here on our way to San Francisco but can’t find it. Bummer.IMG_5898 (800x600)

Finally, it was time to head home. IMG_5902 (800x600)

Things I learned on this road trip:

1. Heather and Michael are cool.IMG_5843 (800x600)

2. If you put me in a car with 3 pounds of cherries I will eat 3 pounds of cherries. (But I think we already knew that.)IMG_5886 (800x600)

Except that one…IMG_5887 (800x600)

3. If you head home a day early on a holiday weekend you miss traffic!IMG_5900 (800x600)

4. What happens in Paso stays in Paso – unless your sister has a blog.IMG_5822 (600x800)

5. Spotting a sick seal can make you very sad even when the ranger says she just might be tired and will be fine.IMG_5694 (800x600)

6. There is a market for EVERYTHING.IMG_5746 (600x800)

7. Don’t poop on the trail.IMG_5740 (600x800)

8. I want to go on another road trip asap!

Happy Fourth of July!

I love Paso Robles! Rotta is my favorite winery. I want to go back one of these days. It’s only 3-4 hours away from us.

      Nothing.

Kidding, but it really is all about the Pea Soup everything else is just okay. My salad was good, but they might have hooked me up on the avocado because I said no bacon and no bay shrimp (it was a Cobb).

Ben got the Reuben and liked it though.

I don’t blame you for not wanting to eat a cherry that looks like a bubble-butt!

I’m a non-wine drinker who is fascinated by the process. Sigh. I’m trying so, so hard to like it. I just watched a fabulous documentary on a vineyard in Arizona called Blood Into Wine. Looks like you guys had a blast!

I don’t think I’m really considered a real wine drinker – the ones I like are basically fruit juice. Have you tried light whites?

I’ve tried lots of different ones. I think I need to just drink more so that I acquire the taste 😉

Thanks for letting me know! Everyone always assumes someone else tells me when RER has issues 🙂

And now I’m worried about you personally so you’re gonna have to confirm you can read by commenting every time 😉
