Hello! How’s it going? Are you back to work or school or real life or still on ‘holiday mode’? I’m still hanging out in Florida. It’s kind of always holiday mode here. I started the day with a run. It’s so nice here, a little warm but I’ll take that over cold any day.
Searching for the Best Sports Bra
I’m on a mission to replace my sports bras because they all smell. Then, when I run they start smelling worse and I go to the store after a run to get some Gatorade and realize the checkout girl is making a face like I said something horrible about her family but it’s just my stink.
I usually wear two sports bras at a time to minimize bounce. I don’t buy super fancy ones because they don’t come in my size (because my boobs are too small). But even with small boobs I want NO bounce when I’m running.
There are super strong no bounce sports bras for ladies with large chests. But those are hard to find for smaller chested girls. I guess companies don’t think A cup owners need compression. Well, I do.
Most of the time I wear 2 medium impact sports bras like this one plus this one. That works well for me, but I’m also on the hunt for a sports bra that I could wear alone (without another one).
I bought this Danskin zip up option. It is great at keeping everything in, but I suspect it might cause chafing in the middle of my chest on long runs. I’ll wear it again and let you know.
Other zip up sports bra options – Under Armour zip // Ideology Plus Size // Champion Zip Front
Here are some options for Sports Bras if you have a large chest (but I can’t speak first hand or boob about these):
I’m going to be trying the rest of the bunch in the next few days and I’ll let you know my thoughts.
Okay, now that we have that covered (literally) I’m sipping on Emergen-C because everyone here is sick!

I too am in the itty bitty committee. I have always worn nike sports bras and they hold the girls just tight enough. I like to get them on sale at the nike outlet so I can have a few different colors and designs. I have even slept in them, they are so comfy! I COULD be biased bc I have never tried any other brands. Someone mentioned detergent too: I LOVE Tide sport with Febreeze, the smell is perfecto. Good Luck!

I really like the Champion bras from Target. I also buy bras from tj maxx or marshalls but haven’t found a zippered bra for a small chest.
Anne @ runningmyselfragged says
I totally agree with Rachael – I bought the VS zipper front. When I first put it on I thought I was in heaven because I didn’t have to do yoga to get out of it. But then the chafing began -it was terrible.
But try the Victoria Secret ones that hook in the back. Super comfortable.

I love moving comfort high impact sports bras. I am a D or DD depending on how much i weigh and they are the best bra ever! In my opinion.

Lucy (the yoga company people) make a bra called the “perfect core” that’s great for smaller chests! It’s got some padding, which I think helps with the compression but not enough that you look like you’re wearing a padded or push up type sports bra. I’ve got As and these are the only bras I’ve found that are supportitive enough to that come in adequately small sizes. (Seriously, all the bad reviews for this bra are complaints it’s too tight if you have a big chest.) Full price they’re pretty expensive but they go on sale all the time–I’ve always gotten mine for 30-50% off. 🙂

I typically wear one medium impact sports bra for all athletic activities outside of running, and a low impact sports bra under a high impact sports bra for running. I’ve read so many articles that say if you’re wearing two bras then you just haven’t found the right bra. I think those are people who don’t have DDD boobs…
I’ve found some options that work over the years and that don’t feel like you’re strapping yourself into a uncomfortable scaffolding system, but the struggle is real!
Anne says
I second using sport detergent for workout clothes! I switched to Nathan Sport Wash after my clothes never smelled clean from hot yoga. It works!
Also, a little body glide on your skin under the zipper areas would be a good idea.

I have to agree with everyone saying Old Navy. Their max support sports bra is the only bra I’ve ever worn where absolutely NOTHING moves (and I’ve got big chesticles). They’re having a big activewear sale now, plus 30% off using the code ENJOY, so I highly recommend checking them out.

Do yourself a favor and go to a running specialty store and get FIT for a sports bra. I’m not sure where in Florida you are… but Fleet Feet Sports does an awesome job of FITTING you. There are quite a few Fleet Feet Sports stores in the Florida area! Seriously I am an older woman with A/B boobs and really understand… I bet they can get you in a bra that fits great and you’ll ONLY have to wear one! Good luck.
Tara @ Run and Live Happy says
I love Old Navy sports bras. They are padded and are enough support that there is no bounce! Plus they’re cheap!! You should try them.

If you like to wear multiple sports bras, like I do too, I’d try the knockout by Victoria secret. I know, it’s vs…but give it a try. It’s a 2 in 1 and is really comfy. I don’t buy anything else from that store but I’m obsessed with these for running.

I have a Moving Comfort Vixen as well, I like it a lot, though it’s hard to get out of after a really sweaty run! I also have a lot of random bras, I haven’t found the best bra ever yet.
We’re still in vacation mode over here. Work starts back up on Monday, and I’m pretty sure half marathon training starts then too…I should probably check my calendar.
LizW says
I love the Moving Comfort Vixen. It comes in smaller cup sizes

I love Victoria’s Secret sports bras. I’m an A cup as well and they hug in all the right places. Lululemon also makes some great compression sports bras for smaller chested gals like us 🙂

I just got a puma one from Costco and so far I love it! I have negative boobs (thanks to 4 nursing babies) but I still need support to keep all that loose skin in. I also have chafing issues along the bottom of my bras so the seamless ones seem to work better. The puma one is seamless, has a little padding (which make me look normal) and I like the skinny straps and back.
Mary says
Do you ever use sports detergeant? It’s good for cleaning your athletic clothes and takes away the stink. I use a brand called WIN and have had good success with it.
Elena says
Agree! My husband and I were having a major problem with the running clothes stink this summer and tried Tide with Febreeze and it worked wonders!
Tracey says
I bought a size small sports bra at Old Navy of all places last year and it is super good at compression (best I’ve ever tried) but the nips show, so it requires additional support. I just bought a PUMA bra at Costco because it was super cheap and I figured I’d give it a shot. So far, I really like it. There are pads, so no nips and they hold the girls well with minimal bounce, but I don’t run. I have the same problem with the small boobs. I have a hard time finding regular bras that fit, but the sports bras haven’t given me much of a problem. I don’t imagine I’d wear a bra with a zipper, but I might if I liked the way it looked on me.
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
I’ve heard great things about Moving Comfort sports bras. A week ago Road Runner Sports had a clearance on many of their bras for 10 bucks! I wish I had time to shop but I just went in to get a race bib.I like no bounce also so I have been known to wear two.
Flower says
I’ve never used any sports bra with a zipper and when I think about it I just can’t fathom I ever would. Zippers and running gear have never meshed well for me. I imagine chaffing like a beeyotch.
Jackie says
I’m an older runner. I LOVE zippered sports bras. It’s a bit embarrassing to have to ask my husband to help me out of my sports bra (he thinks it’s a hoot though). I worry about going to the gym at lunch and getting “stuck”. When the zipper starts to have issues, it will unzip completely during a run but I still prefer them.
Sherri D @ fun fit flavor says
Good timing for this post because I’ve recently been on a major hunt to find a good one. I have never been 100% happy with any of my sports bras which is kind of disappointing. Anyway, I asked for this one for Christmas and so far… it’s my very favorite. It had excellent reviews on a few websites so I thought I’d give it a shot. So far so good! http://www.rei.com/product/885879/moving-comfort-uplift-crossback-sports-bra?cm_mmc=cse_PLA_GOOG-_-8858790006&CAWELAID=120217890000837748&lsft=cm_mmc:cse_PLA_GOOG

i have A’s (perhaps AA?) and my problem tends to be, nipply!
I have found that wearing sports bras w/padding in them really help with nip & bounce!
I have no preference, anything from TJMaxx or Marshalls that has pads wll do for me.
Lindsay says
Tara –
I can’t believe someone finally admitted the fact that girls with A or B’s tend to have a few issues when it comes to sports bras and the nip issues. I literally had that my entire workout tonight at the gym and it was a little embarrassing. I might be getting some padded sports bras now.
Mariek says
I have the same issue!! lol. Like Tara, I just get the sports bras with padded inserts at TJ Maxx and I’m good to go!
tara says
oh ya, no shame here! Although the worst was when I tried hot yoga, and the only sweat marks were the nips! Straight to the store for padding! : )
Rachael @ Catch Me if You Can says
i use the VS Sport brand sports bras because I have the opposite problem. the girls are big and need some extra help getting the bounce out. until just recently the zipper front ones I used didnt chafe but now its like crazy town i cant go on a longer than 5 mile run without issues. boo hiss but it works really well for the no bounce thing. aint nobody got time for that 🙂
