Hello!! How was your weekend? How’s life, liberty and the pursuit? I’m suddenly exhausted but I did have a PB& jam packed weekend of fun. So, it might be why I’m tired or it actually might be my thyroid (because I seriously just crashed and fell asleep while I was icing my knees right now). Anyway, let’s see what was going on over here…
My capsule wardrobe for Saturday was a maxi dress and sandals for church and dinner. Ben and I tried an evening service, which is something new to us because we wanted a Sunday Funday.
After church we hit up Lucille’s BBQ with a gift card that we’ve had for a long time. I went with the standard Skinny Margarita while we waited for a table.
I have no idea why I don’t order artichokes every single day of my life. This was amazing.
And I have no idea who the heck I am anymore because I ordered fried chicken. I order a salad here every time because they have delicious, big salads but I’m there for the biscuits and honey butter anyway!
I was listening to the “Good Food” podcast on NPR and they were talking about fried chicken earlier in the day. That stuck in my brain and as soon as I saw it on the menu my mind was made up!
This morning we woke up and headed straight to Newport Beach for some paddle boarding fun. I was super close to just buying a paddle board myself because I saw an amazing deal online, but Ben talked me out of it because he said something about “Where would you even keep it? Blah blah blah. You should go 4 times before you buy one. Blah blah blah…”
That guy is a real downer. Luckily, I live in SoCal and there are tons of places around to get my SUP on.
We were there by 8am and paddled around for an hour. The highlight of the morning was when I saw a seal napping on a dock we floated by… LOVE!!
We have a little Sunday morning tradition to walk to get iced coffee. Even though we got our activity on via water we still needed the treats and coffee.
Even though I had some epic biscuits at Lucille’s that almond croissant was the BEST thing I ate this weekend!

“That guy is a real downer,” made me laugh out loud. Best thing I ate over the weekend = strawberry pretzel dessert. Yum.
Nicole says
I tried SUP yesterday for the first time. The lake water was really gross, so I worked hard to stay on the board.
I would be afraid of sharks in the ocean 🙂 I watched too much of Shark Week last week.
Shannon in Tustin says
I don’t think I ate anything amazing this weekend! #lifefail
I really super want all of those almond things in the photo.
Monican + Ben = YAY!!! 😀

Best thing I did was complete my first Olympic Distance Triathlon! Dead last, but someone has to be last, right? Best thing I ate was sriracha shrimp tacos!

We went to a family member’s 50th wedding anniversary so there were lots of Indians. That means lots of food and lots of dancing!

Fun fun! And super awesome. Congratulations to them <3

I SUP. I took mine out Saturday. I’ve had my SUP for a few years, and am ready for a new one. I bought the basic cheapy, (heavy) board in case I didn’t like the activity. But, I love it, and now I need a lighter, faster board. What great deal did you see??????
runeatrepeat says
It’s on Costco.com there is a two pack!

Did you know they make inflatable SUP boards? I have only used this type because my husband has brought them home from work to demo. I went yesterday too, but we were missing the fin that helps stabilize it to go straight. I still had fun and didn’t fall off, thankfully! I need to try an actual board to give an accurate opinion. The nice thing is they store easier! I ate some amazing guacamole while volunteering at a trail running race, Yucatan, I can’t wait to use my free coupon to get more.
runeatrepeat says
I didn’t know that – gotta check out the inflatable ones!
Sam @ Mobile Bay Runner says
I got a little SUP action in this weekend too. Oh, and by the way, my husband told me the same thing before we got ours. I wanted one so bad, but he didn’t think I would ever use it, etc., but as soon as he found a good deal online for TWO boards he was all about it. Maybe that can work for you too 🙂

I had this amazing BBQ at Whole Foods this weekend. I love BBQ and I feel like I can pick out some good BBQ. This stuff was the bomb.com! I would love to try paddle boarding sometime!
Robin says
Would love to try the almond coissant.
Brooke@runningonchange says
I wish I lived by the ocean, but I just can’t seem to move away from the Uintahs. Paddle boarding looks like so much fun I will have to go on vacation and try it out.

Would like to try SUP and we sure have a few places here in south England – on the stretch of water called the Solent. Not sure about catching many seals asleep though! Best thing I ate this weekend was my girlfriends chicken fajitas…..to die for with mushed up avocados. Have a great week.
Krys says
I would love to try SUP, but where I currently live there aren’t any rental places or, let alone, groups of boarders. Perhaps I’ll put it on my bucket list for this summer. Is it difficult to get started? Any pointers?
– Krys
runeatrepeat says
No, it’s super easy! Try it! I don’t really have any pointers except, enjoy it and have fun – I was scared for no reason the first time.
Shannon in Tustin says
Mornings are better (ie: the water is smoother and no wind/breeze). Have fun!
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
I had some amazing brick oven pizza with eggplant and ricotta on it and then chocolate filled zeppoles. Holy F they were so good!
Best part of my weekend was the quick 20 minutes I met my boyfriend in the Panera Bread parking lot tonight at 9:30pm. He dropped his kids off home with their mom at 9 and then we got to have a little catch up conversation and share a goodnight kiss. I can start my week happy now!
Tedi @ running with infertility says
Love Ben’s selfie bomb! 🙂
Chicago Jogger says
I really want to try paddle boarding; looks so fun! They have boards for rent on Lake Michigan here in Chicago. For food podcasts, I highly recommend America’s Test Kitchen. They always have super interesting stories along with food info!

the only time i tried SUP i couldn’t stand up for the life of me-but it was a really windy day…
If you like the ‘good food’ podcast you should check out slate’s ‘table to farm’ and The Sporkful (it even has a serial spoof episode).
we just finished grilling a ton of food for the week- the grilled peaches are winning my best eat of the weekend award.
Becky @ Ok, so here's the plan says
I really want to try stand up paddling, it looks like so much fun!
The best thing I ate this weekend was a TON of guacamole.
