Hello! I was MIA last night because Ben and I joined some peeps at a beach bar for a very blue margarita. Okay the blue margarita was mine. It was too dark to take a picture, but I could share a pic of my still very blue tongue. That thing was like drinking ink!
Before we left I had a loaf of that frozen buttery garlic bread. It’s dangerous. Dangerously good.
I’ve been trying to pace myself with the eggnog by sipping it with a spoon. Well, at first I sipped it with a ladle, but I started getting weird looks from Ben’s fam.
This morning I had a really deep run. No, I didn’t jog to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, I had a lot to sort out in my head movies. Between New Year’s, work stuff, staying with the in-laws and some personal stuff my head has been reeling. I finally had some time to sort some stuff out.
Without further adieu here is my top 5 food experiences of 2011!
1. Ben’s favorite meal I made this year – Meatloaf Cupcakes
2. My favorite Mexican Meatless Monday Recipe – Easy Chili Rellenos
3. Best Drink – Martina’s courtesy of Tina’s Mal
4. Best Post-Race Meal – Brunch at Mimi’s Café
I stole Ben’s Lemon Poppyseed Pancakes and had a cinnamon roll. Eh.Pic.
5. The best dessert – any time I had frozen yogurt!
Fro-yo has a special place in my heart. Always and forever.
And of course a very very Special Honorable Mention goes to every single time I had watermelon.
What was the best thing you ate this year?

I would have to say my first attempt at a traditional Pumpkin Pie. It was amazing. Being Australian, living in London, I never had the chance to make it before – but I did – and I loved it!

Wedding cake! Mostly because it was my wedding…although the cake was pretty tasty. Oh and pretty much everything I had in Europe/on the boat during my honeymoon. It’s been a very indulgent year :/
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
best thing all year?? gah- too hard!
umm…probably my Mamaw Dot’s Google Gaggle (boiled vanilla custard) over homemade coconut cake. She makes it twice a year on Tgiving and Christmas. I dream about it. seriously.
Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl says
I have been wanting to make meat loaf cupcakes for a while now. Nice.
Best thing I ate… was a ‘so thinly sliced I don’t know how they did it’ potato gratin at the Lakeside at the Wynn resort in Vegas. Paired great with my salad and mojito.
Best thing I drank was the strawberry mojito by the poolside, same place.

Definitely the huevos rancheros and gluten-free pancakes I had in Vegas. I had no idea gluten-free food could taste that good! I just wish we hadn’t had to drive so far off the Strip to find food! Eh, totally worth it.

There has been so much good food this year! I’d have to say the winner in my book was the meal that we had after the Las Vegas Half Marathon at Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak. I had a steak that was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. And the scalloped potatoes on the side were amazing!
Can’t wait for more food adventures in 2012!

That’s why I love running… it is the best therapy ever!
There is this amazing place in Asheville, NC that serves gluten free, organic cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries. I am convinced I’ve died and gone to heaven every time I eat one. That would have to be the best thing I’ve had all year!
Fiona says
Those meatloaf cupcakes are so clever! I’m vegetarian but I wonder if I could do a lentil loaf variation?
I would have to say the best thing I ate this year was a mint chocolate brownie sundae at Pure Food and Wine in New York City. It was so good, I have no idea how they made it raw!

That’s tough. I’d say pumpkin ice cream or a macaroni and cheese recipe I finally tried.
