Training in Florida

First things first…you have to check out this David Letterman clip:

NYC Marathon Winner Meb Keflizigh with the Top 10 things you think about while running the marathon.

So, Ben surprised me and bought tickets for a weekend getaway to Florida the weekend after Thanksgiving! We are going to visit his family who live south of Sarasota. This means the end of November is going to be crazy with my family visiting us in MD one weekend, and us visiting FL the next! But, I will get to run in Florida in preparation for the Disney Marathon! It’s going to be quite a temperature change!

Before lunch I snacked on some blackberries…IMG_2185

I always feel like I have a third grader lunch when I pack PB&J, but it’s so easy and yummy! IMG_2187I don’t think most third graders would like Ezekiel bread, so that kinda makes it grown up, right? IMG_2186

Boo: This cake is staring me down every time I go in the break-room (which is often for water refills and food).IMG_2191

Question of the Day: Are office/school treats hard for you to resist?

For me yes, for a few reasons: 1) I used to never let myself touch them (but would just go home and eat some crap eventually) & 2)  because office treats make it seem like a “fun” day at work. It kinda takes me back to school days when someone would bring cup cakes on their birthday and everyone was so excited 🙂

Thanks for posting the Letterman clip! I absolutely love Meb and was so happy to see him win this year. I was crying like a baby during the last two miles of the race…he just looked so happy and full of life!

When I used to work in an office, the treats were sometimes hard to resist….especially if they were cupcakes or cakes that look like the one in your breakroom. I’m a SUCKER for bday cake.

What a good hubby! Way to go Ben!

I can resist office treats because no one really brings anything in. On the off chance that there is a cake (one of my co-workers wives’ does a cake decorating class and for 3 weeks in a row we had cake in the office at least once a week) I pretend that it’s stale. If there is candy I don’t even look at it. Out of sight out of mind!

Office treats totally get me! I used to be really strict but that doesn’t work, like you mentioned, now that I’ve eased up on myself I’ll have something if I really like it/want it but I can say no to things I don’t like. It didn’t happen over night and I still say ‘yes’ more than ‘no’ but to me it’s better to have a treat that I want instead of going home and overindulging. I guess I’ll see how that goes this holiday season, it’s always a killer at work!

Yes! I totally agree with you that it makes the work day seem fun/special. Also, when I’m sitting in my cubicle all day, plugging away, I feel like I “deserve” it. I try to limit it to truly special occassions (a close coworkers bday, etc.) or special homemade treats.

Whereabouts exactly are you going? My family is from Sarasota! Although if you’re going the 28-29 I’ll be in Alabama with Ross’ fam (so sad because it would have been SO COOL to meet you!).

That’s so exciting! I’d love to go to florida while there’ll probably be feet of snow on the ground
I’ve never had much of a problem turning down office treats. If it’s homemade or something bought from a swanky bakery, I’ll have it. Otherwise I could get something better at WF anyway

Staying away from office treats is REALLY hard for me…if there is cake involved, it’s pretty much all over…I love cake, and we don’t have it at work THAT often so it’s real hard to resist. Some days/weeks it seems like there are goodies all around, but I work with a bunch of vultures so the longer I can stay away from the break room, the more likely it’ll all be gone. But sometimes I’ll admit, I will go wandering around looking for snacks…it’s something I need to work on, for sure.

Yeah for surprise vacations! I want to go somewhere warm too!

I worked in a school before becoming a student again myself…the teacher’s room often had treats. I was tough when there was frosting involved to resist!

In regards to your last post…. I have a soda stream and I love it. I live on seltzer so this has cut down my use of plastic seltzer bottles to zero! I had to buy mine though. It would have been nice to find a free one on my door step, but it was worth the price.

Today was cake day here, too!! Luckily it’s only once a month. 🙂 I try to bring in somewhat healthy things when I feel motivated to do so.

I love surprise trips like that, good move Ben.

I find it pretty easy to stay away from office treats unless they are homemade. I don’t like store bought cake, cookies, etc. so I can avoid them pretty easily. It usually results in a craving of some sort so I always make sure to have a little treat later at home if I feel like I really want it.

High fives for Ben. What a sweetheart. Sounds like a fun trip!

I am pretty good about avoiding office treats – mainly because I don’t go in the room where they are at very often!
