Hello! How is your week going? Today I have a great vegan food review for ya! But first the randomness…
Fitness
I started my day with a tiny bit of strength work at home and a walk…
I used my ol’ coconut oil trick before I took my walk to give my hair some extra conditioning.
(*This is a random bun picture, I couldn’t master the air of taking a hair selfie today and just got random pics of the sky/background.)
Breakfast
After my walk I came home to a delicious avocado that was begging to be eaten.
And in other delicious food news…
Yesterday I made my first ever granola!! I’m pretty excited about this. It was just oats, apple sauce, stevia, cinnamon, dried cranberries, peanuts and apple thrown together and baked until crunchy. And then I ate it all.
Vegan Food Review – Coconut Bacon
I spotted Phoney Baloney’s Coconut Bacon at my local health foods store a while back. It intrigued me until I finally broke down and bought it. I know the internet is obsessed with bacon so I wanted to share my thoughts on this vegan and gluten free bacon swap.
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10 – 1 being you don’t care and 10 being you want to make-out with bacon – How much do you LOVE BACON??
Amy says
So…I live in Wisconsin so we are almost required to love bacon. Even if we weren’t, I probably still would. On your scale of 1 to 10 bacon…since you put bacon in your mouth, doesn’t that technically constitute as making out with it since it goes on your tongue? That being said…I give bacon a 10. However, our state fair introduced chocolate covered bacon – it was terrible. Sounds good? Love both? It was a serious fail. Don’t ever try it. Especially at mile 7 of a half marathon. #longestcommentever #sorry
Susan says
Trying to get caught up on reading your blog and I usually don’t comment on a post so far in the past but….I too am not a “traditional” bacon fan. I don’t eat red meat or pork BUT I love turkey bacon. There are some brands of turkey bacon that aren’t good but -IMO – Oscar Meyer has good turkey bacon. Also, I bake mine so that I don’t have to stand there and watch it, flip it or get spit on by it. I use the tip on Emeril’s website for length of time for baking. Obviously different ovens will bake it differently and/or adjust your times depending on how crispy you want it. I also flip it halfway through the baking process. I don’t remember if it tells you to do that or not, but I do.

I’m so glad you also don’t like bacon that much! It’s definitely not my favorite. I would way rather have sausage or ham.
Doni says
My favorite sandwich is a BLTA. There’s just something about that combination that is a little slice of heaven. But other than that, bacon is about a 2 or 3 for me.
Tahleen says
I do love bacon, maybe a 7. I dont’ eat it a lot, but we try to have some in the house at all times in case we get the craving. It adds a lot of flavor to some dishes too, like pasta!
runeatrepeat says
Yeah, even though I’m not a “bacon person” I’ve seen people cook brussel sprouts in it and I want to try that.
Staci says
I don’t like bacon at all. We have a local marathon with a”bacon station” that is very popular. They always run out!
runeatrepeat says
They have a Bacon and Beer station at a marathon out here too! I skip it 🙂
Sue says
I’m vegan but somehow this coconut bacon doesnt appeal to me. I’m thinking…if you’re vegetarian or vegan etc, why would you wanna have meat (or the vegan version)? Just me I guess.
Ursula @ Northern Ambitions says
One a scale of 1-10 I have to say 1 because strangely enough I don’t like bacon. I never did as a kid and then I became vegan and hated it. Now I eat fish but still can’t stand the smell of bacon. Although I know it’s a breakfast classic and most people love it. those treats looks interesting
Elena says
I don’t eat bacon (I’m vegan) but everyone else here in Iowa does. There is “Bacon Fest” here and it sells out in like 20 minutes – it’s completely insane! I think those tickets were more in demand then tickets to Pink were!
runeatrepeat says
My friend lives in Iowa and she goes every year!!
Sandy says
Yay this video. Mostly because someone finally gets not really liking bacon, when the whole internet loves bacon, and would wrap themselves in bacon if possible or wrap bacon in bacon and have a bacon inception. Also going to go buy some coconut oil, because your hair looks super healthy!
Alycia says
9, definitely a 9. Bacon should be a food group!
Jenica Moore says
On a 1-10 scale, I love bacon approximately a 13. I am pretty sure I could eat it every day…the uncured kind is the best! And semi-healthy (maybe I just say that to make myself feel like I can eat more).
runeatrepeat says
13! You are legit 🙂
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
On your scale, I would be a 0. I avoid bacon at all costs
Jessica says
Eh… maybe a 3? I’m pretty neutral, really. I like the smell of bacon but I don’t LOVE to eat it. My husband on the other hand…he is a 10.
runeatrepeat says
Yes! I recently was at a foodie dinner and we randomly were talking about how the smell of bacon is better than the taste.
Megan @ The Skinny-Life says
I love bacon 0. So gross!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Zero. I love bacon Zero amounts.
sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
bacon gets a 10 in 2 instances….as a scrambled egg partner on my plate and when combined with avocado lettuce and tomato on toast. otherwise it don’t care for it.
I’m using all these overpriced leave in conditioners…never thought of using coconut oil…
Flower says
TEN! I love it THAT much. Don’t make fun of my bacon babies! 😉
The Silent Assassin says
I cut the video at the :50 second mark. Tears forming, I just couldn’t handle it anymore. Gonna go kick rocks now.
runeatrepeat says
I don’t get it.
The Silent Assassin says
at 50 seconds in, I found out the Monican didn’t like bacon. I was like deuces! (for now lol)…
runeatrepeat says
Ha! Busted. I told ya peeps would be mad and kick me off the internet 🙂
Chelsea @ TableForOne says
Oh, that coconut oil trick is excellent! I am definitely going to be trying that one. I like bacon okay. I maybe eat it once every couple of months. I am more a peanut butter toast for breakfast kind of gal.
Jackie says
I don’t love bacon maybe I’m weird. I prefer pork roll!
Shannon in Tustin says
I’m about a 9 with the bacon. But I kind of like it in it’s pure form, not bacon flavored everything!
You must get to Sidecar Doughnuts in Costa Mesa. MUST. Thank me later.
And do try the maple bacon doughnut–amazing.
It’s almost the weekend! YIPEE
Have a great one, Monica!
runeatrepeat says
Darn it I think I do have to try that now!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I have always wanted to try out coconut oil on my hair but never have. My hair needs a really good conditioning treatment that’s for sure!
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger says
I wonder how my big thick dreads will do with a little bit of coconut oil. How do you use it when you condition?
runeatrepeat says
I slather it in, wrap it up in a bun and go do something for about 45 minutes. Then, wash it out. It is kinda difficult to wash out though, but it’s a nice smell and deep condition.
