Waffle Wednesday for a Dollar

Breakfast

9 Feb

I stopped at the 99 (cent store) on the way home yesterday and came upon this Kellog’s Eggo Real Fruit Pizza. I had seen it in the stores and I’m a sucker for anything “NEW!” so I grabbed one.

The Nutritionals are not great, as I expected… but curiosity got the best of me and I grabbed it. I didn’t expect to eat it all, but a few bites were worth $.99 to me.

It very flat and the “sauce” is supposed to be yogurt-y, topped with fruit and granola. The instructions say to put it in the microwave for 1 minute.  I also put it in the toaster oven to get a little crispy.

I was expecting it to be overpoweringly sweet (like a Pop-tart), but it wasn’t. Since I was expecting it to be too much sugar and it wasn’t, I was surprised. I don’t think it was good.  Ben thought it was okay. Eh. I wouldn’t buy it again, I just wanted to try it for the novelty.

After 4 quick miles I made my real breakfast – a yogurt/cottage cheese bowl with banana, chia seeds, Vitatop and PB! IMG_8197

I am so sad that I used up the last of my Chobani Honeynana yogurt. product_honeyNanaI really loved that flavor! It’s the kind that’s sold in the kid’s 4 pack, so it’s smaller than the usual Chobanis. I added a half of cup of cottage cheese to this meal for some extra protein. IMG_8192

My little brother is staying home because he’s sick and I’m headed to my mom’s to watch him. See ya later Smile

I love that it’s a “REAL Fruit Pizza.” Total upgrade from that fake fruit pizza I normally buy.

I saw that fruit pizza reviewed on Impulsive Buy, so I already knew it was gross. I’m more interested in the fact that your dollar stores have fridge cases? Or is it shelf stable? That makes it seem even grosser somehow 🙂

I totally aww-ed about you going with your brother because I miss my 7yr old brother so badly since he’s in LA and I’m currently not. Hope your brother gets better!

The breakfast pizza sounds like it would be a fun thing to recreate (only healthier and tastier!)…I may try!

That fruit pizza looks neat, but you’re right…… the nutritionals suck. I wouldn’t buy it.

Great idea of mixing in the Vita Top! I have a few Banana Nut ones left, that would be great with some yogurt 🙂

Hahaha, I totally freaked out when I saw that was a new product!! I would have bought it for novelty’s sake too. It’s our duty as food bloggers…. right??

OMG I’ve never seen that flavor Chobani!!!! I’m wearing a skirt today and I may brave the cold to go search for it and by cold I mean 15* and feels like 5* because of the 30 mph wind. Now that I think of it, maybe that’s not such a good idea.

    Have fun with the bro!
