Hi! Thank you all for the suggestions on what to do about my sweaty running clothes and if I should get two hampers or what.
Some people have a hamper with multiple compartments ( I went to look for one at Target and at home goods with no luck so I might have to buy it online). Someone else said they hang their sweaty clothes on the side of the hamper for a while until tossing it all the way in. You can check out the comments on that post for more suggestions.
This one has 3 sections… I’m thinking for running clothes, ‘regular’ clothes and other stuff that needs washing?
Remember how I mentioned that there’s a bee hive that suddenly popped up in my parents’ avocado tree?!
Even though everyone pretty much wanted them gone my family realizes that bees are important to the environment.
I feel like this is kind of funny or random at least because I don’t picture a bunch of random Mexicans (myself included) lobbying for bee rights.
Yet, for a few years now my brother has pointed out dead bees here and there. So we’ve actually talked about it a few times that it seems like bees are dying.
I’ve read about it some and heard a few news stories that have talked about ‘bee issues’.
Basically without bees the produce section of the supermarket or your local farmers market wouldn’t exist. Bees are vital for farming.
When my parents found the hive in the backyard they knew they would call a beekeeper to take it away somewhere where they could hang out and live their little bee lives.
Unfortunately it turns out that these were African bees. A beekeeper came to remove them and told my parents that these beasts are highly aggressive and could potentially attack a person or the dogs.
I don’t know exactly what he did to get rid of them but everyone was advised to stay out of the area for 5 hours and to keep the dogs away from the area for five hours as well.
It sucks, but given the fact that my family lives there and all of our neighbors have dogs and there’s a school just right down the street it’s really scary to think that there would be aggressive bees like that around people and pets.

The bee situation reminded me that I needed to get faster because I’m always getting stung lately and maybe if I was able to run away from them they wouldn’t bite me!
This morning I ran 5 miles. Then I did 10 x 100 meter strides. I tried to channel my inner Usain Bolt … but instead of a lightning bolt I was more like the slow thundercloud full of raindrops.
To run the hundred meters I just stopped my watch exactly at 5 miles and then ran the first hundred keeping an eye on where I started and stopped. Then I used to go to points of reference for the rest of the run.
In between strides I gave myself maybe 10 to 20 seconds to catch my breath and then did it again.
Breakfast with an amazing bagel sandwich. I normally don’t make such appetizing meals in the morning but I felt like some of the ingredients were about to go bad and I had to use them up.
So I got a little fancy with it…
There are so many Sriracha snacks and food out on the market now! I spotted the Sriracha Triscuits at the pantry.
I tried this bag of sriracha popcorn last night. It was an impulse buy because I was hungry. It happens.
I made Sriracha Popcorn at home a while back and that was pretty good too! Fresher is better!!
30 day yoga challenge update
Okay I have to confess that I missed yoga yesterday because I went out to dinner and didn’t get home until super late.
The first week I did it in the morning right after running. But this last week I’ve been doing it in the evening to help me wind down.
Since I missed it yesterday I did it right after my run today. A small part of me is glad I have it crossed off my to-do list for the day but I think I do really enjoy doing it in the evening. I just feel so calm after it’s easier to sit down and relax while watching the Olympics.
Speaking of that – I have been so busy today I have no idea what’s been going on in Rio!!
I’ve got to catch up. Talk to you later!

I like my yogas in the evening too and like you, it helps me wind down after a day in the office. I try to make it for classes after work (most time, it’s an F on this) or just “self serve” (aka DIY at home even if it’s just for 10 min).

Bees are fine! Just don’t bother them and they don’t bother you. Just hope you don’t fight over the avocados. THAT might get ugly!

I am craving that spicy popcorn now, thank you! Yum. I also love yoga when I take time to do it. So good. As for bees- we raise honeybees here at our farm so I am not afraid of them, they are really gentle and beautiful, but I also have never dealt with Africanized colonies, have heard they are pretty scary. Good luck to your parents! Kudos to your little brother for caring and paying attention, That’s awesome. Happy weekend xoxo

I have that exact hamper and I love it! And I want to eat that bagel sandwich, like right now. Did you know that Costco has a sriarcha seasoning? It’s amazing!

No! I have no idea how I’ve missed that!

I totally freak out when I see a bee. Like I would run for my life lol.
That bagel sandwich looks absolutely delicious! I’m going to try it out on the weekend.

How do you take these running selfies? It’s that a special feature on the phone?

Because you do run a lot and long distances you need to learn about Africanized bees and BEE smart. Almost all wild bees have now cross bred with the Africanized and are more aggressive than “normal” bees. If you are stung by one, it releases pheromone markers with the sting that mark YOU as a danger to the hive and the other worker bees WILL CHASE YOU following the marker for MILES. If you find yourself in this situation, get inside if you can, and if not, run amongst tall plants/trees/whatever in a zig zag pattern – straight running in a straight line is easy for them to follow.

Thank you Leah. That is really scary that they chase. I feel like movies/TV make us think we should run to the water – but there is NO water around in reality. Do you have more info on this? I’d love to share!!
Leah says
My son studied bees at UCSD – hence my personal knowledge base. DO NOT RUN INTO WATER – they will hover and wait you out!
wikihow.com actually has a good step by step action plan that is accurate

Ahhh! It sucks because that’s kind of what is ‘taught’ on TV.
The sound of the hive gives me a weird nervous feeling.

When I was younger, I was allergic to bees and actually got stung right under my eye when I was like 7. My whole blew up and my mom was convinced I was going to need plastic surgery, haha. Luckily it went back to normal levels after a few days. However, I always thought that if I was calm around bees and stayed still like a statue I’d be ok. And I really was never stung again until last summer when I was stung on my butt while on a run! Luckily I grew out of the allergy as I was a few miles from home and actually didn’t realize it was a bee sting until I got home was able to look at it (re: had my husband look at it). It just hurt a lot and I ran the way home holding my butt to relieve the pain hahaha
runeatrepeat says
I got stung on my butt the last time too! It got super huge and red and hot and stayed that way for a long time. Scared me. I’m glad you got home safe (holding your butt).

My 6 month old black lab found a hornets nest under our deck last week. We had no idea it was there. He got stung multiple times and the neighbor had to help pick those buggers out of his fur. It was a horrible experience. I love honey bees but if you’re any other kind of bee, you’re gone. We had to have someone come spray them. My dog had to go to the vet, he swelled up pretty bad. Never want to go through that again! Glad you got rid of that nest in the avocado tree!

Poor baby 🙁 I love labs <3
