Running and Make Up

I was considering hitting the gym when the clouds parted at 10am and I raced out the door to get a few miles in. This week has put a major damper in my training plan Sad smile

Today I was able to do about 5.5 miles, but I had to walk around super muddy areas and debris. I didn’t even take my Garmin because I knew that would be the case. One of the underpasses I run through was flooded and I had to go over the street. I’ve never seen anything like it and want to take some pictures asap.

When I got back home I celebrated Waffle Wednesday! PB and fake syrup, just like I like it.

Plus a protein shake with: ice, chia seeds, frozen spinach, protein powder and water.

I normally don’t pay attention to make-up ads. I was a “make-up girl” in high school and figured out what worked for me in terms of colors and brands and application. Well, I figured it out after a brief stint as a chola, but I digress.MONIC-CINDY

Anyways, the Covergirl commercials with Drew Barrymore caught my eye (over and over) and when I saw the Smoky Shadow Blast on sale yesterday I snagged it up. IMG_5442

So today I tried the Smoky Shadow Blast in Purple Plume to review. I have tried cream shadows in the past and don’t really like them, but I LOVE a smoky eye and wanted this to work for me.IMG_5467

Here is me without eye make-up:IMG_5466

I applied according the the brief package directions on the back – light color from the lid to the brow and underneath the eye if desired. Dark color on the lash line and in the crease. IMG_5470

I made sure to follow directions, as I have a tried and true eye shadow application method, but I wanted to review the product exactly as it was intended. IMG_5469

Overall, I like the color and ease of application. But, it smeared easily and when I went to curl my eyelashes a lot of it came off on the curler. This is a great product if you don’t have a ton of time in the morning and want to swipe on some color and go – but it might not last all day.

Tip: If you’re going to use this put a base on your eyelid first so it stays longer. IMG_5468

It did “work” when applied as directed.

My mistakes were easy to correct since it is a cream.

It comes in fun colors like purple, green and blue.

It wipes off too easy and can smear.

I doubt it would last a full work day or night out because it’s a cream.

If your goal is a smoky eye, shadow might be more effective *if you know how to apply.

Question: Do you wear make-up?

Me: I’m super bad about it lately and only wear it for special occasions.

I have always liked your eye make-up and would be curious to hear/see about your “tried & true” make-up application. I can do what I refer to as “work/day” eyes but “night” eyes are beyond me!!

  2. Maren says

You are so good at doing makeup! You are gorgeous!! It never looks like that on me when I put it on. I just went to Sephora and they taught me everything to do, so now I finally feel like a grown-up!

  3. says

I wear makeup when I get dressed up. I rarely wear it to work because I often workout and shower during my lunch break. I’d like to master the “smokey eyes” thing but I end up looking like a raccoon. :)

  4. says

WOW! That totally makes your eyes pop! Love it! Maybe I’ll have to try it out for my NYE wedding I’m attending. I’m not major on make-up but I love me some pretty eye shadow every now and then. :)

  5. says

Pretty much the only time I wear make up is for costume parties. I’ve never been good at it. I went through a make up phase in high school, but it involved cheap concealer and bright red lipstick, and looked pretty terrible. Plus, oh man, I barely function in the morning. I’m lucky if I remember to grab my lunch and phone on the way out the door. If I tried putting on make up I’d probably blind myself. HAHHAHA.

You look fantastic even without make up. Go you!

  6. Dynamics says

I wear eye makeup every day I am in public. I only use Mac shadows and eyeliner. Because it does not last long and I am cheap I buy Maybelline mascara.

  7. says

I do not wear makeup on a daily basis. In order to me to get out of the house on time with two little ones in tow..I need to minimize my morning routine. I go bare faced to work and only use makeup for special occations. I also want to teach my daughter that you do not need makeup to look “pretty”..that you are beautiful with your natural features.

  8. says

I love makeup and used to NEVER leave the house without it. Slowly but surely I stopped using it and I got more and more lazy about it. Now I only wear it on special occasions!

  9. says

I think the weather has been killing everyone’s runs…or at least that is what I’ve been telling myself to make me feel better about it!

I think you did good with the new make up…good job at following the directions! 😉 I wear make up Not a lot, just under eye foundation and mascara. My eyes are the one thing I am most self conscious about!

  10. says

I agree that it’s a great color on you!

I’m a makeupaholic, but I rarely try new stuff as I have tried and true products/application just as you said you do. Thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone to encourage me to do the same.

  11. says

I wear make up every day. My skin is very uneven; I need a little bit of something to make me feel human.
I also don’t think I could live without mascara.

  12. says

I agree, the purple looks good on you! Make up is just a part of my morning routine. I don’t think about it. BUT I am not one of those girls who spend forever doing make up. I spend max 3 minutes. I do tinted moisturizer, Bare Minerals powder, blush and mascara. If it’s a special occasion (or nighttime) I do eyeliner. Thanks for the review!

  13. says

since so much of my job requires wearing alot of makeup, when i’m not working, i never ever ever wear it! probably not a good thing, b/c i always run into people who could employ me when i go out with a naked face!

  14. emily says

AH i have that smoky shadowblast in the exact same color. i definitely agree with your review, i’m not a big cream eyeshadow fan and this didn’t convert me.

also, my dark purple end broke off after about 10 applications and has been sitting at the back of my makeup drawer for a loooooooong time so be gentle!!1!

PS where did you find a box set of mascara and eyeliner for 8 dollars?!?!?

  15. says

I don’t think it’s bad that you only wear makeup for special occasions! I wear it every day and it’s terrible that I can barely get myself to go to the grocery store down the block without putting on mascara first.

  16. says

I wear eyeshadow and mascara every day and I’ll put on some eyeliner when I’m trying to be fancy.

I’d like to see your tried and true eyeshadow application method. I always just use one color for the entire thing. Do you put a darker one in the crease like you did with the new make up?

Hello- I know you wrote this a long time ago. But I just came across your site from Skinnyrunners blog via the Tinkerbell race report.

I love your red hair and eyes, you’re so pretty. I have two red headed boys. :)

About makeup- I wear makeup almost everyday. I’m blonde with blonde eyelashes and eyebrows so I need makeup. lol. But last week I just got eyelash extensions and I love them! I can now leave the house w/o makeup!

But as for what makeup I use- liquid makeup has to come from a dept store, like Dillard’s. And eyeliner and eyebrow pencils can be cheap from Walmart or Target. Eyeshow, I use either cheap or dept store, but must have a base coat from a dept store. :)

And I always run a race with makeup.
