Hello and Happy Friday! Iām not in the bestest of moods today because I weighed in and despite my best attempts to track, the scale is not moving in the right direction.
My negative mood followed me on my run, so it was an unpleasant 5.5 miles of mean head movies.
When I got back home I made a good breakfast on my EASTER EGG plate. (Fun fact: Ben uses this plate year āround. I donāt know why but he kinda loves it.)
And now Iām going to FIGHT THE FUNK with some fun stuffā¦
1. The reason I donāt want to do a mud run is because Iāve done one and it wasnāt all that fun. I did the Muddy Buddy race with my ex-boyfriend before the blog. The mud is full of sticks and rocks and really scrapes you up to crawl through. It was an experience
2. A year ago today I got certified as a Personal Trainer!!! Itās been a very tough road to build up clients and the money isnāt good. But I LOVE IT. Iām so proud of my clients ā they all try so hard and donāt mind when I text them friendly reminders about tracking their food or exercising on the weekend. Or at least I think they donāt mindā¦
Iāve come a long way from my overweight childhood and high school years too. Sure I had a bad weigh in today but, Iām proud of how far Iāve come. This is a picture of me after starting to lose weight summer after high schoolā¦ Now that I think back on it, I was 180-ish at my highest.
3. I found this card in my old pile of pictures and have to share:
I wonāt suck it in if you donāt suck it inā¦
Super clichĆ©, but bathing suit season is coming and I donāt want to suck it in (too much). So, Iām staying positive and tracking and trying.

Question: Weekend Plans?
What were you doing a year ago today?
Ben and I are headed on a little road trip north for wine tasting and fun this weekend. I may end up running a last minute half marathon! Weāll seeā¦
Jen says
I was just in LA area. We went wine tasting in Temecula, is that close to you? The weather was shitty but I managed to drink a bunch anyhow LOL!
Abigail says
thanks for sharing such a lovely stuff…http://www.novelainsensatocoracao.net
Jayne says
The scale is evil! š
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
Love that card! =)
You have come a long way! The scales have such an effect on us sometimes. I know if I work hard all week and don’t see that reflected on the scales, I feel so defeated. But I don’t know why. I mean, if I had a good week and felt good about it before stepping on the scale, why should I let that number undo all my hard work. Hate that feeling.
This weekend I am working tomorrow part or all of the day. I haven’t decided yet. I hope to get a run in tomorrow morning but I am so sore right now from yesterday’s lunge workout. I don’t know if I will be able to. And then Sunday I am hiking with friends. Cannot wait!
Carolyn says
The Dallas RnR half on Sunday with the husband. = )
RunEatRepeat says
Good luck!
kali says
Wine Country Run in Paso Sunday?!?!?
Heather says
Don’t get discouraged–let it fuel you, use it!!! You’ll kick a$$ next week! Just keep at it!
I’m doing the She.Is.Beautiful 5K this weekend. We’re having nice weather in NorCal… and now it’s going to rain on us. Awesome. LOL
Have fun this weekend!!

I started my first personal trainng job this week. I certified in December. It is very exciting and motivating. I had about 7 fat years. I weighed 155 at my heaviest. I am 5 foot nothing. I get freaked out when I gain weight too. I just do the best I can every day. Some times it isn’t good enough and sometimes it is. Keep your head up!
Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) says
Bad weigh ins are rough but don’t let it get you down. Just pick yourself up and keep on tracking! You look great!!
Andrea says
I hope that you were ableto fight that funk today and win!!! And I so agree with you about the mud races, after being in the Army, did some muddy thing while in, and doing 1 mud race (swamp foot 4 mile) I think I have had my share of mud fun. But who knows maybe again sometime.
IDK my BFF Jes says
Congrats on your one year!
This weekend it’s all about the Hunger Games, baking, working out, and running!
Megan says
Congrats on coming such a long ways! Fluctuations suck, especially when you’ve been working hard. Sometimes if you try easier (rather than try harder–sounds lame but my boyfriend says it all the time and it actually makes sense) things end up working out. Congrats too on your ACE anniversary. I’ve been studying for my test and am struggling to focus :/
Leyna says
Bad weigh ins are hard. I’m struggling with a bad weigh in I just had myself. Sometimes it’s such a struggle to be healthy, but I know that exercising and eating right makes me feel better, so I try to suck it up (not in!) and stick to it. I may have had a bad weigh in on Monday, but I didn’t shoot back up to my highest, so I’ve still come a long way. I can’t even remember what I was doing last year, other than working, training for my first half, and still finding my footing with having two kids (my son was a little over 2, and my daughter was 8 months). I was exhausted, still nursing, and lived off of sugar free red bull and nonfat peppermint white mochas. Now I’m drinking a lot less caffeine, and have gotten a lot more used to having two kids. Makes a big difference!
Calee (@chimes) says
Silly question ā how does one become a personal trainer? Do you have to have a degree in something health / science related? Or do you just take a few classes? Or do you just take a test? I would love to get certified so I have another career option in my back pocket. My boyfriend’s graduating w/ a master’s degree in mechanical engineering this semester and any job opportunities (should he choose to look instead of getting a PhD) would take us far away. I *just* found a new job and was planning to get my masters in the same field as my undergrad, but with a nutrition / health emphasis … but that’s only b/c my job will pay for it here.
Anyway. Long comment. Long story short: how do you get certified?
RunEatRepeat says
To become a personal trainer you get a certification through one of the agencies like ACE, NASM or similar.

Several random things: That toast looks amazing! I used to be a chubby little girl, and it was awful because a lot of the kids were just mean. I love the little girl in the picture! So precious!! š Weekend plansā¦.we’re having a family birthday party tomorrow! š ā¦.this has to be the most weirdly transitioned comment ever! lol!
Erika says
Congrats on your accomplishments!! Love being able to look back and say “wow, here I am now…what a journey!” You are inspiring to many, so hang in there!!
I’d love to go wine tasting. It’s our favorite thing to do as a couple! Love the Russian River Valley in Sonoma! Beautiful!!
I’m running the Hot Chocolate in SD…we’ll see how this goes. š
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
I’ve noticed how hard you’re trying!! Just stick to it! I think you’re pretty amazing!
Ida says
I am doing a mud run in big sur this weekend! it’s my first one and I am pretty excited about it. I hate being cold though, so my feeling my flip pretty quick.
Jen @nutcaseinpoint says
Haha! I have sent that card to a few of my girlfriends!
A year ago today, I was in a terrible non-relationship with a guy (thank god THAT’S over) I was just getting a few classes at the Y to teach, busy with work, busy with grad school, and probably shoveling my car out of the snow.
Kelly says
You look good girl! But I know what you mean about the scale. I tell myself it’s just a number… but I never listen. Have a glass (or two) of wine and you’ll forget all about it š
Carrie says
A yr ago I was pregnant with my 2nd. I’ve lost 50lbs since last Aug. I wasn’t working out and would find any excuse to eat fast food. The thought of trying to run hadn’t even crossed my mind. Now I work out 5 days/wk, starting jogging, eating so healthy and rarely eat fast food.
Denise P. says
Sorry that your hard work isn’t showing on the scale. Are you also taking measurements?
I joined a healthy living website two years ago in an attempt to lose (15 lbs I “picked up” in grad school) and I would do weekly or nearly daily weigh-ins and that low from after was such a bummer. I really did let it rule the rest of my day, if that number wasn’t exactly what I wanted. Now that I am just in maintenace mode, I don’t feel the need to weigh-in frequently at all. I know my body is hanging on to these extra 2-3 pounds because I’m constantly in training for one endurance event or another.
Not too much on tap this weekend – ahhh Good thing too because I am feeling really run down and have a sore throat. Tomorrow I need to get out for a long run. Ragnar relay is in less than a month and I’ve been slacking on the running due to knee pain, tight hamstrings, and moving. Sunday I teach Sunday school – nothing more fun then spending my morning with 20 crazy 2nd grade girls!
Lia says
Sorry you had a bad day but I really admire your turning it around in a positive way on the blog…I can’t believe it’s been a year since you got certified as a PT. Happy anniversary!
Katie M says
A year ago today I was…. hosting the in-laws for the week. And I definitely had to check the Google calendar for that one. A year goes by fast!
Shannon says
You’ve come a long way.
You’re strong and healthy.
You are doing what you love.
The scale is misleading sometimes. Some days I regret getting on; try not to more than once a month.
A year ago I could barely run two miles. Doing the Knott’s Coaster run on Sunday (10k); my third 10k in five months. Signed up for the PCRF half-mary in May. Running 10-13 mile long runs each weekend and 4-6 3x a week. I love it and can’t go more than two days without getting antsy!
You are a champ; don’t you forget it!!
May God bless you and keep you strong and healthy!
Amanda @FancyOatmeal says
A year ago, I was with my parents in Michigan, waiting for my dad’s kidney surgery. I hadn’t planned on being home, but then again he didn’t plan on getting cancer either. Thankfully he’s been cancer free for one year!!!!
PS – I love the picture that you posted at the end of the blog.
Sarah says
Eff that. I hate it when you’re doing everything right and the scale doesn’t budge. I’ve been doing the same thing. Trying to lose my last 5-10 “vanity pounds” <— who the hell came up with that phrase anyway? I'm not vain for wanting to tighten things up. Eff that phrase too. Eff it all. I'm with you on the stinky mood apparently š
Rebecca says
Just curious– has your medication to regulate your T3 helped you lose weight at all?
Lynda @ Hit The Road Jane says
love that picture! I will not suck it in today š
Christine @ Oatmeal Bowl says
You know I am just doing the mud run for the long lines to get beer! š
Congrats on the awesome health journey! My scale will not just budge. Maybe a pound or two. Unfortunately, its digital. So when I jump on it… it still doesn’t budge. Weekend? Hunger Games.
Kaitlyn says
Be patient with yourself girl and be kind to your body. Sometimes our bodies don’t want to lose weight for a reason. It will come, in due time. You are doing everything you need to and more importantly YOU ARE HEALTHY! Celebrate that!
Losing Lindy says
UGH..I am not having any luck over here. But I am too stressed, probably losing my job. So I eat.
Melissa says
I hate the scale some days and love it on other days… don’t let that number ruin your day! š By the way, do you stick to a certain amount of calories, carbs, etc for a day?
runeatrepeat says
I never count carbs because I can’t count that high š I aim for 1800 calories a day if I’m trying to lose. More if I’ve given up.
Sana says
Blah. Don’t let that silly # get to you!
Meghan says
A year ago I was planning my business which has definitely had ups and downs throughout the past year. Today’s been a funk day for me too, work wise, and I am trying not to bring that into my long run!
Amy says
haha that card is so cute. you look great btw, congrats!
a year ago today i think i was in thailand on my honeymoon? or just getting back. it was AWESOME i wish i was still there haha.

Amy says

Mary R. says
I wish I traveled as much as you and Ben do. I’m totally jealous.
I’m doing a mini get away to the Wisconsin Dells this weekend with the bf so I can’t complain too much.
A year ago I was 20 pounds heavier and single and depressed about it. I also ended up in the hospital from severe anemia. Omg, this year is so much better!
I love festive plates and cups too but my bf won’t try it. I use a Christmas cup year round, lol.
runeatrepeat says
Yeah for a better year!
Corrie Anne says
ha! I love that card! so perfect!!
A year ago I was teaching in the Dominican Republic. K-8 music and high school P.E.! And it was almost Spring Break — when I went home to plan my wedding! yay!
I love festive plates too!
