Are UltraMarathoners Crazy and a Big Head Band

Confession: I want to run another ultra-marathon.

This is me immediately after the BTR 50k contemplating life, liberty and running…

Immediately after BTR I told Steve this was my first and only ultra…

But on the way home I was already talking about running another one. Who am I?

Well, maybe I’m crazy because this article

“What are extreme runners thinking?”

claims Scott Jurek’s has a different pain scale from the rest of us. And…

“Researchers have studied the nutritional needs and mental toughness of ultrarunners and found that they have a strong psyche that’s balanced by euphoria. For them, euphoria trumps pain. They regard 100- or 150-mile challenges as a great thrill, whereas regular athletes like me would think of such a run as the most miserable thing ever.”

I don’t think I’m that tough, but maybe my tiny black heart needs the euphoria from running?

Yes. That must be it.

Brady Bands Giveaway

You guys know I am a visor girl all the way. I wear my visor at all times – even in the shower. No shame in my game.

But, a rep from Brady Bands contacted me to do a giveaway and I couldn’t turn it down. The company was created to support CureSearch in honor of the founder’s son Brayden. Tragically, Brayden died of brain cancer a year ago. brayden

We are passionate about helping to find a cure for childhood cancer, the number one killer of children under 16 in the U.S.. At least 10% of every sale will be donated to childhood cancer research.

That’s great that they donate a portion of the sales to childhood cancer research. A hot pink color would be fun!

  2. says

    Cute headband w/ a sweet story/cause. I choose pink!!
Yes, ultra marathoners are crazy and I am right there in the crazy club. I recently wrote a post about the extreme challenge addiction…

so, wait a minute, you went on video saying it was your ONLY Ultra Marathon, and now contemplating doing another one. I thought I was the only one who did that. It’s like if I say it on video, I do the exact opposite. It doesn’t matter what it is! Do IT!

  4. Jill says

There are sure a lot of choices – I think I would pick the skinny – flower power headband in white or just a simple black one. Thank you.

  5. Greta says

I’m digging April Showers. I just started wearing headbands because I’m trying to grow out bangs, so this would be awesome!

  6. Robyn says

There are so many good ones, but if I had to pick just one I’d probably go with the silver sparkle one.

  7. says

I think ultra runners have to be a bit crazy to do what they do. I’m excited to join the ranks after my October race (although lately my running has me doubting if I can do it).

  8. Samantha says

Such a tough decision! I like the “seeing spots” and “bling it on” styles a lot though.

  9. Jamie says

I’m not picky, but I do love pink! Great cause too. Cancer doesn’t make sense to me. Kiddos getting cancer makes even less sense than that. :(

  10. Amie says

I like the blue polka dot band.

    {I LOVE this! I am a pediatric oncology nurse and have raised money for CureSearch before. What a great way to honor their son!}

  11. Katie says

Bling it in black or the purple chevron…this girl loves purple and sparkle! I need a new headband to keep my thick hair out of my face…summertime humidity is making it out of control! Big hair problems :)
