What I Do After a Marathon

My Life

Congratulations to everyone who ran a race this weekend! I saw so many comments from people who rocked their first half marathon in Long Beach or first marathon in Chicago! Super proud of you!!

start of long beach marathon running blog (350x467)

My Long Beach Marathon Recap is here.

I got some extra pics from StuftMama including this action shot!

After the race my super awesome madre took me home and I spent the rest of the day relaxin’ and eatin’.  <- Ha! I don’t know why or when I made that a hyperlink. I guess that’s my favorite thing.

What I Do After A Marathon

Since I run too much and eat too much I make recovery a priority in life. I didn’t do an ice bath after this marathon but I did elevate my legs while reading for a while.

Then, I pulled on my ProCompression socks and enjoyed my favorite thing in the world – watermelon.

Step C: Iced my knees. Cat not included. I am not injured but my right knee feels a little sensitive so this is important to prevent it from getting worse.

I also baked up a batch of my Pumpkin Pie Cookies. Happiness comes from the inside…but, cookies help.

The day after a race I take it super easy. But I did meet up with the elusive SR for a walk. We were shoe twins too! Mizuno FTW.

Question: What is the BEST BEST BEST Halloween candy?

Reese’s. Boom.

PEANUT BUTTER PUMPKINS are the best candy. Hands down.

Frozen peas are a runner’s best friend 🙂 Best halloween candy? Any mini chocolate bar, frozen! Snickers, milky way, almond joy…this girl doesn’t discriminate.

Fantastic post. And yes, Reese’s is the right answer.

I need to adopt your post race routine, I am clearly doing it wrong. I love mini mars bars the best. I could eat a bag of them, in fact I have, trying not to repeat that this year.

Can TJ’s cookie butter cups be considered Halloween candy?

If not, then it’s a tie between Reese’s and 100 Grand

Congrats on the marathon! I just completed my first half marathon yesterday in Victoria. Such a beautiful course highly recommend it. Your tips are helpful as I had no idea how sore I would be the next day. But I made my goal time! No better feeling than crossing that finish line!

Did you ever get your Garmin to work? I am a big fan of kit kats during Halloween. Otero than that not really a chocolate candy fan. Have to be really in the mood.

I agree. I love Reese’s PB Cups (not Reese’s Pieces). I also really love Tootsie Rolls, but I only ever eat them at Halloween. Weird?

I think those were my brother’s favorite when we were kids so they still remind me of him (even though I think he doesn’t like them anymore).

The best Halloween (and otherwise) candy is a Twix bar. I love those things and will search them out. I may also pick them all out of the Halloween mix before children show up.

Hi! I’m running my first marathon this Saturday in Baltimore! Question: how much fuel do you consume during the 26.2? On my long runs the most calories I’ve consumed is about 170 calories for a 21 miler. I expect to need more as I will be going longer and hopefully faster, so any tips for me? Thanks

My favorite Halloween candy used to be Three Muskateers but over the years I decided to favorite Take5 bars because they seem to be few and far between. And special.

    Best halloween candy? Hm…

I used to like gummies a whole lot. They came in the shape of ice creams and hamburgers. My bee’s knees are the hershey’s cookies and cream chocolates…

Oh my goodness were they ever so good.
