What You Do When You Wake Up At 3:30am

My Life· Running

8 Nov

Hello! How’s it going? Over here it’s going good. But I woke up at 3:30am. THREE THIRTY A.M. What the heck? Darn time change. Vegas woke up with me. I waited for the sun to come up so I could run.

spark drink when you wake up at 4am (450x800)

The weather is perfect for running – cool, misty mornings. I’m not running a lot right now though. Since I just started with my running coach we’re slowly beginning to incorporate varying my paces and don’t want to just add that to my usual mileage (that might cause an injury). I ran 5 miles today at an easy pace. I also have a half marathon coming up, so he wants me to take it easy because of that too.

run eat repeat pose potm (450x800)

Post-run breakfast was cereal and eggs.

cereal for breakfast (800x450)

And the rest of my day was filled with a lot of Spark and iced coffee. Since I was awake so early I started to hit a major slump before lunch!

What I do when I wake up at 3:30am for no reason:

  1. Wait for the sun to come up so I can go run.
  2. Go run.
  3. Eat breakfast earlier than usual. Actually, eat all meals and snacks earlier than usual.
  4. Drink tons of Spark.
  5. Consider taking a nap.
  6. Complain on social media that I’ve been up since 3:30am.

Luckily, Spark always gives me a perfect boost of energy. I’m completely obsessed with this stuff and sip it everyday. For some reason I don’t drink coffee past breakfast time so I switch out my beverage of choice to this.

drink spark daily (450x800)

(I’m an Advo Distributor  and I really do use this stuff daily and recommend it to all my non-internet friends too. Email me if you have questions.)

I saw a lot of super inspiring runners on the news after this weekend’s New York City Marathon and Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Here are a few articles on some very impressive marathon finishers from this year:

I’m having a hard time with life getting in the way of workouts really get now. I’m a first time mom and baby girl had her shots this week. She had a fever today and I just couldn’t find at out before it got dark once I was home from work. I also couldn’t put her down. So if carrying her while vacuuming counts then that is all I did today.

And that’s how I’m showing up for myself this week… by knowing when to push my hardest and when to rest and recover. As much as I’d love to be out there racking up the miles, I know that recovering from months of training is the priority this week to give me (hopefully) a PR on Saturday! 🙂

Got my movement miles in! But the best way I “showed up” is improving our (running buddy’s too) pace from 9:58 avg to a 9:51 avg on our 3 mi run this morning. Working our way down into the 8s to position us for a sub 2 hour half marathon. We’re getting there!

It was a STRUGGLE to get out of bed this morning for me. I was out way too late at a concert last night. But I dragged myself up for a quick 15 minute jog to wake up since I won’t have any time the rest of the day to do it.

I’ve never ever woken up that early except to get an early flight… basically I never get up that early by accident! But I did once wake up at 5.30am completely awake, on a Sunday, and that actually coincided with my 20 mile training run so I just decided to get up and get it done early. One of the best (but most painful) mornings ever!
