This morning I got an email from a reader with the most awesome thing “Seen on My Run” ever. I love sharing the random funny stuff I’ve seen while running and I had to share this one. Katie sent me a picture of a squirrel with a taco shell. Taco Squirrel!! I love it. This made my day Katie!
That got me thinking about some of the random stuff I’ve seen while running. I think I usually laugh to myself and keep running so I don’t even remember most of the weird running moments but these area few I do remember…
An empty box of Drumsticks with all the wrappers laying around it.
A guy with a turtle. (it looked like he just found it in the waterbed)
A stride of pride girl. (formally called walk of shame but it’s been rebranded)
Mini-Stonehenge. (someone keeps stacking rocks along the path.)
People I know and RER readers! (love when someone says hello or when I saw SkinnyRunner)
Stuffed animals. (that made me feel guilty about not picking them up)
An alligator.(when I was running in Florida)
Motivational phrases! -> Smile! Keep going! Almost there!!
Shady motivational phrases… –> “GO STEVE! and his friend”
God saying hello.
The floor. (when I fall, it happens a lot actually)
A lady horseback riding. (along a suburban street in Orange County)
Toby. (the cat I befriended)
Chonies. (underwear)
A gallon of milk.

I am a super newbie runner so I’ve never seen anything out of the ordinary. However, when I’ve been riding on my bike, I always see “suicide squirrels.” I mean, why do squirrels run out into the middle of the road??? One time, a squirrel ran into my bike while I was riding. Scared the living daylights out of me.

I had cows look up from eating and decide to “run with me”. They actually kept me motivated and they ran their entire fence line

A few years ago I found some Jell-O shots on the side of the road. Some were just the empty little plastic cups, some were full. It was the day after Halloween, so hopefully those weren’t treats handed out to the kiddos!

I pinched my sciatic nerve like 10 years ago and I was down for the count for weeks – it was horrible! I finally got the strength to run again and as I was going down the sidewalk I was just giving God so much praise – saying thank you for my health and my ability to run again. Just as I’m thinking that I round a corner and in the sky I see a plane sky-writing in enormous letters “JESUS.” I was like – yes, yes, that is who I am thanking!! Sometimes He’s subtle . . . othertimes, not so much!

Not running, but a friend of mine always finds “adult movies” when he’s out cycling. He’s found a lot of DVD’s on the road over the years, and he always goes back to pick them up then give them to someone as a gift.

My favorite time to go running is Christmas-time. I love to discover the weirdest holiday decorations.
Ducks, frogs, chickens…..flamingos…square snowmen. I usually blog about it every December.

Our running path by my house used to have some penises drawn on it with motivational phrases that aren’t appropriate but are similar to “come on” just spelled differently, along with other phrases. I thought it was hilarious and it totally motivated me to keep running, but someone else didn’t like it and they covered it with asphalt.

Yesterday, I heard rustling in the leaves and thought it was either a bird or a bear – ya know, complete sweat/heat induced logic. But, no, it was a snake with a big fat toad clamped in its jaws. My imaginary bear was scary enough, but a real-live toad-eating-snake makes me rethink my chosen path — in running and in life 😉
