Remember how I won 2nd in the fun Silk Bloggers Smoothie contest? Well, here’s the recipe…
Healthy eating doesn’t come easy to me. Nope. If I had it my way I’d incorporate chocolate into every meal – breakfast, lunch and dinner. (I have put chocolate chips on my eggs, so you know I’m sick.)
During my visit to the Silk team offices we had a smoothie making contest and my Chocolate Lover’s Delight Smoothie won 2nd place! It really was an unfair fight – I mean, dark chocolate is hard to beat!
This delicious treat is packed with anti-oxidants from the cocoa and cherries. It tastes like a rich, creamy chocolate shake but it’s only 200 calories!!

Dark Chocolate is Healthy Chocolate
I used Silk Chocolate Almond Milk at home and the Chocolate Soy at the contest – so both work great. (You can see all the products on Silk.com)
Dark Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
-
1 cup chocolate almond or soy milk
-
3/4 cup frozen sweet cherries
-
handful spinach
-
1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder (can be found in the baking section)
-
handful ice to your desired thickness
Blend. Drink. Delicious.
Enjoy!

If you want it more ice-creamy you can use frozen banana in it, and less milk…comes out like delicious ice cream hooray
ps i LOVE Hershey’s Dark Cocoa Powder, i put a big old spoonful in !

I’m drinking this right now! It’s pretty easy to adapt to your preferences, like most smoothies, but nothing like chocolate and cherries to start a cold November morning off right. My little girls love it too!
kitkat says
I’m sorry. I have to ask the obvious.
What is the spinach all about?
IS it the token healthy eating ingredient?
I am not being sarcastic!
I saw this in my email and went DARK!! CHOCOLATE!! CHERRIES!!
and got here and went spinach ????
Be gentle! I am a newbie here but I do love Silk EVERYTHING!

I am plant based and use kale in my smoothies and avoid any soy, which is really tough because soy is used as a cheap filler for everything.
Gail K says
I can’t have the sugar in some varieties of the Silk but I use the unsweetened Almond all the time. Just as a tip to someone else who may be in the same boat…. just one dried (seeded) prune or fig or date will sweeten the whole thing and not be at all noticeable. I’ll be trying this with my needed adaptations!
Patrice DeTal says
I loved the Dark Chocolate Cherry smoothie UNTIL I added the spinach, which, IMHO, ruined it. I did, however, make my own adjustment by deleting the spinach (why would you put spinach in this???) and added instead 1/2 cup steel cut oats to the smoothie and blended with a couple ice cubes. i have to tell you, with that addition not only was it an absolutely delicious smoothie (if my 13-year old grandson specifically asks for it, you know it’s really good!) but it kept me going for hours! I had this for breakfast this morning and it’s after 2PM now. I’m just now getting a little hungey and thinking I need a little something to eat! Good stuff!
Alexandrea Busnello says
Too much sugar. Use unsweetened vanilla almond milk with unsweetened cacao powder instead. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk with unsweetened vanilla Greek yogurt with frozen cherry mixed berries.
Annie @ my fuel and fitness diaries says
Im so weird…I like chocolate in its whole form (dark chocolate, m and m’s, etc) but love vanilla ice cream, cake, smoothies, etc.
Im going to try this smoothie…might sub strawberries for cherries because I have a bunch in the freezer!

Hi! Looks lovely. Don’t think we have Silk in Ireland, we have Alpro but they don’t do a dark chocolate version… I’ll have to adapt it I think. Do you use frozen spinach?

I used frozen spinach at home, fresh at Silk’s office. Both work 🙂

Chocolate! I always get/choose my protein powder in chocolate over soy. By the way, why do you add that spoonful of cocoa to the smoothie? To make it thicker? I’m wondering if I can sub that with my protein powder?
runeatrepeat says
The cocoa gives it a dark chocolate taste versus a lighter/milk chocolate taste.
Liz @FitLizzy says
Oh. My. Gosh. This looks so delicious! So do the chocolate eggs…..

Well I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my morning 6-grain oats, but DEF (x100) will be buying the dark chocolate berry version to try this!! Thanks for this little beauty. 😀
Shannon in Tustin says
**oops just dark chocolate version. I’ll be adding the TJ’s frozen berry/cherry combo to mine though.
runeatrepeat says
I picked the cherries out of that combo to make this at home 🙂 The bag only has enough cherries for 1 smoothie, or just use the mix.
