That Time I Was Attacked In Florida

Well, I don’t even know where to start. I had a near death experience today and I am still coming down. I feel my adrenaline pumping and I can’t seem to get back to a calm place. It happened just after a run. I am aware that running alone can be dangerous. Running in Florida alone can be dangerous for reasons beyond getting hit by a car or attacked by a crazy person.

Running in Florida also adds the additional risk of:

falling  (why do I trip so often when I visit here?!)

alligator attacks

bug bites (I think because I smell like watermelon)

drowning in your own sweat (yes, I’m that sweaty)

getting struck by lightening (more than anywhere else at least)

But today none of those things happened on my 5 mile run (plus 4 strides at the end). Today I faced an entirely different predator, much more scary than an alligator because it moves faster and sticks to you once it has attacked.

After my very very very sweaty run I went to Publix with Ben’s mom. It’s our favorite thing! And we really cleaned out the store.

When we got back I was helping bring the groceries inside and told her she can just stay in the house and start sorting them. I would bring in the haul.

On my third trip I went to grab some bags and was startled by a frog who was hanging out on the car. I laughed because it scared me a little, which is kinda funny given he’s so little and cute. I called Ben to come outside and get him so I wouldn’t smash him when I went to close the trunk.

He tried to grab him, but the frog jumped away and into the car. We couldn’t leave him inside there for a few reasons, one of which is he would get cooked in the hot car all day! So I tried to take more pictures as Ben went to find him inside the back seat. When he was hiding on the car door near the handle we opened it carefully and I went to take a video of Ben as he scooped up our little green friend. He was kind of cute, and this was all so interesting to me – this doesn’t happen a lot where I’m from.

I was taking a video of the whole thing and the next thing you know…

Now I can’t seem to calm down. What the heck is my problem?! It’s like I know frogs aren’t really dangerous but I completely was scared and surprised and lost it.

Question: When was the last time you screamed like you were being attacked when it was really not a big deal?

This happened to my husband when we lived there, and he had the exact reaction you did. Down to the screeching.

Please bring Publix back to OC with you, I miss it.

I hate frogs! Hate them! And THIS is why! They jump in unknown directions at unknown times. Shudder. I live not far from where you visit in FL and I stay far FAR away from frogs so that this does not happen to me.

I was bike riding in the dark on Saturday night. A firefly hit my forehead and I guess I killed it. I saw fluorescent yellow trailing to the ground. I screamed. Loud. Lol.

Your video is hilarious! I probably would have done the same thing, just from sheer shock that he jumped on me! How did you get him off of you? Ben didn’t look like he was helping much..he was too busy laughing! LOL

I live here and I have never gotten used to insects jumping on me. At our house in Nokomis the darn tree frogs jump down on you when you go into the back door. They’re worse in the Summer and I literally run through the door to try and beat them. But every so often, they land on me and I scream like a little girl. I also scream when the black snakes slither right in front of me even though I know they’re not venomous, oh, and once we had a huge spider on the ceiling and I screamed when my husband knocked it to the floor with my broom.

Oddly, I am not the slightest bit afraid of the gators we see in our canal, even when they swim right up on us.

Have I made you want to move to Florida yet? lol

Yesterday I had a screaming moment. The caterpillars are REALLY bad, I mean taking over the world, in Massachusetts, and I was walking out the door and a caterpillar was hanging right in my face. I swear it almost when in my mouth, so I screamed and ran back inside. Ughh I hate caterpillars.

I love how you had just said how cute the frog was, then scream like a crazy person when it jumps on you. Pretty funny! Thanks for sharing. What happened to the frog?

Eek! I really do not like frogs. Like they are right up there with mice and rats. Ick. I think the last time I screamed was when I jumped out from behind a pillar to scare a friend and she punched me in the mouth. Ouch.

I was visiting Florida (my in-laws have a condo) with my husband in November….. I opened the door to go for a run and a frog fell/jumped and landed on my arm. I screamed so loud. I am sure it would of been amusing for someone else to watch lol
