Do You Know What Ants Eat In California?

Hello! How’s it going? My run this morning had a few fun highlights… but I haven’t seen Toby the cat in a while.

I thought this was him, but this was in fact NOT Toby and this guy walked away from me as I chased him and then a man walking on the path toward me saw me following this stranger cat and taking pictures and looked at me like I was a weirdo. You know, a weirdo following around stray cats and taking pics of them – I guess I’m guilty as charged.

I also spotted the ducklings! I love them.

But they don’t love me and always swim away frantically like I’m going to hurt them. I am NOT going to hurt them. I just want to stuff them in my sportsbra and take them home to live with me!!!

About a mile from home I saw what looked like a big piece of orange foam floating across the sidewalk.

What?! It stopped me in my tracks.

Turns out it wasn’t floating – it was being carried by an ant. And it wasn’t foam – it was the yolk of a hard-boiled egg.

There was a smashed hard-boiled egg on the path and the ants were having a feast!! One ant in particular was carrying a huge piece of the yolk across the path – it was 5 times his size!

It’s hard to tell but the piece of yellow on the right of the picture is pretty big – big enough for me to see as I was slowly running by and I saw it moving in an odd way. I appreciate that the ants eat the yolks. They aren’t afraid of all the cholesterol hype.

Good job ants. Carry on.

RX Protein Bar Review

I picked up a few new-to-me items at Trader Joe’s yesterday. I’ll try one (the cheaper one) and you can try the other one and tell me what you think.

RX Protein Bar – I have seen these all over the internet and Instagram. It’s a protein bar with clean ingredients and the protein is from egg whites. The consistency and taste is similar to a Larabar. I liked the ingredients and nutrition stats. I wasn’t all about the taste though. I’m very spoiled with Quest Bars (and Costco Quest Bars!). Those are so much more tastey than most protein bars out there it’s hard to compete.

Overall: Good ingredients. A little pricey. Tastes good, but not good enough for the price/calories.

I also saw TJ’s has egg white protein powder. I didn’t grab this yet – have you tried it?

And this is an oldie, but goodie – candied walnuts. I bought these to go on a salad, but devoured them before they touched one leaf of lettuce. Oh well. Guess I need to get more!

And finally, this was the perfect pear. I ate it as soon as I got home and it was amazing. I love when fruit is the perfect ripeness right away and you don’t have to wait for it (read: try to wait but eat it before it’s ripe and then get mad at yourself).

Question: Have you tried the RX protein bars? The Egg White protein powder? A hard-boiled egg from the floor?

Salt does not kill ants, but it does repel them. Ants do not like salt and leave any area treated with a salt and water solution.

I love the random photos you share from your runs. I would probably want to stick those ducklings in my shirt and take them home too.

I LOOOOOVE RX Bars! They are a million times better than Quest bars (IMO) because they are only made with real ingredients. Quest bars leave a funky aftertaste in my mouth. I love the chewiness of the RX bars. Coconut and Mint chocolate are my favorites. I’d say the chocolate sea salt is my least favorite; it’s not as sweet as you’d think it would be. The pumpkin spice and apple pie ones are yummy in the fall.

    All three no shame!
No but seriously, don’t use the egg white protein unless you mix in something and are brave. It’s… “different” with taste and consistancy. I like quest Barack more than rx bars, but they’ve changed the recipe for them and they aren’t as clean as before:/ those hard boiled floor eggs though..

That’s so funny. I literally went to TJs to get this today! Like no kidding! I heard the maple is the best and just ordered some. You can sign up on the website and they give you 15% off your first order. I find the home ‘larabars’ are way better and have a whole Pinterest board devoted to it! Ha! Plus I hear the mint chip RX bar is tops

I really like those RX bars, PB and chocolate sea salt flavors are really good. I’ve never seen those Costco bars in my local Costco! Too bad because I love Quest bars!

Have you tried Pure Protein Bars? Chocolate Peanut Carmel specifically. OMG. It is like a candy bar.

I have not tried any protein bars…
but the walnuts look so yummy! our old coworker used to always have roasted almonds or roasted macadamia nuts and they were so good.

It’s cool to see the ants getting their feast!

I just bought those protein bars at Trader Joes yesterday but I have not tried them yet. I am a fan of Quest bars also but really liked the ingredient list for the Rx bars.

I have not yet tried TJ’s egg white protein powder but I have tried egg white protein powder from another brand. I liked it! It was good. I expected it to have a weird flavor but that was not the case.

Thanks for pointing out the egg white protein powder. I’m breastfeeding and so I don’t want to use traditional protein powders however I would love to add one to smoothies. This might be just the thing I need- and I was already going to TJs this weekend!

I love Costco’s protein bars too! I like the plant based protein powders, so I stick with Vega, who has it happens you can also get from Costco. I love that place!
