How to Register for runDisney Races (Step-by-Step Guide)

If you want to run a Disney race, you need to be ready the moment registration opens. runDisney races are some of the most popular running events in the United States. Many races sell out within hours and some distances can sell out even faster. In this guide you will learn exactly how to register for runDisney races, when registration opens, and how to improve your chances of getting a spot before races sell out.

I have run several runDisney races including the Dopey Challenge and the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge. Disney race weekends are some of the most fun events you can run, but they require planning ahead. This step-by-step guide will help you understand the runDisney registration process so you are ready when registration day arrives.

Run Disney Race Registration Tips Hacks

When runDisney Registration Opens

runDisney typically opens registration several months before each race weekend. Registration usually opens around 10 AM Eastern Time / 7AM Pacific Time on the scheduled date.

You can see the full race and registration schedule in this guide: Run DISNEY RACE CALENDAR for 2026 / 2027 & Registration Dates

Registration dates are announced in advance, so it is important to mark them on your calendar.

Step-by-Step: How to Register for runDisney Races

Here is exactly what the registration process looks like.

Step 1: Create a runDisney Account

Before registration opens, create an account on the runDisney website. Having your account ready ahead of time saves valuable minutes during checkout. You can do this days before registration day so you can just log in when it’s time.

Step 2: Log in Before Registration Opens

Log into your runDisney account at least 15 to 30 minutes before registration begins. Many runners open the registration page early so they are ready when the system goes live.

Step 3: Join the Virtual Queue

When registration opens, runners are placed into a virtual waiting room queue. This queue determines when you will be able to access the registration page.

Important things to know:

  • The queue opens automatically when registration begins
  • Your place in line is randomized
  • Refreshing the page will not move you forward (do not refresh the page – you will lose your place in line)

Once you reach the front of the queue, you will be able to register.

Step 4: Select Your Race

Choose the race distance you want. Have your “A” choice and “B” choice decided in advance in case your first choice sells out before your turn to register.

Depending on the race weekend, options may include:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • Half Marathon
  • Marathon
  • Challenge races such as the Dopey Challenge or Fairy Tale Challenge

Once selected, you will proceed to checkout.

Step 5: Complete Registration Quickly

Because races can sell out fast, it is important to complete checkout quickly. Have this information ready before your turn to register.

You will need to confirm:

  • personal information
  • emergency contact
  • estimated finish time (proof of time can be added later if needed)

After checkout you will receive a confirmation email.

How Fast Do runDisney Races Sell Out?

runDisney races often sell out very quickly.

Typical sell-out timelines include:

  • the most popular Disney Marathon Weekend races sell out in under 2 hours
  • The Princess Half Marathon races sell out within hours
  • Wine and Dine races frequently sell out within hours
  • Popular challenge races may sell out in under an hour

Because of this demand, it is best to be ready to register the moment registration opens.

Tips to Get Into runDisney Races Before They Sell Out

These tips can improve your chances of getting a race bib.

Log in Early

Log into your runDisney account before registration opens. This helps you avoid delays once registration begins.

Know Your Backup Race

Sometimes specific races sell out first. Decide ahead of time if you would be willing to run another distance if your first choice sells out.

Register for One Race at a Time

If you want multiple races, register for them separately. Completing checkout quickly improves your chances of securing a spot.

Use Multiple Devices

I’ve successfully registered for multiple run Disney races without using multiple devices, so I don’t think this tip is truly necessary. But I also know it’s one of the most popular tips I hear when people talk about registering for run Disney. You don’t need multiple devices, you just need to log on to register on time, don’t refresh the page and be patient. Your turn will come to register and it’s just a matter of what races are still open when it’s time. So, this is not a requirement, but many runners open the registration page on:

  • a computer
  • a phone
  • a tablet

Each device enters the queue separately, increasing your chances of getting through faster.

What If a runDisney Race Sells Out?

Even if a race sells out, there are still a few ways to participate.

Charity Bibs

Many nonprofit organizations receive race bibs and offer them in exchange for fundraising commitments.

Travel Packages

Some official Disney travel providers offer race packages that include race registration.

Virtual Races

runDisney virtual races allow you to complete the distance anywhere while still earning Disney themed medals.
