This was my view from my run this morning! I decided to hit the treadmill instead of hitting the streets since it’s 1 one degree. Seriously.
Luckily, the Duggars kept me company for a few miles.
I also hit up the strength equipment for a little cross training.
I ordered breakfast so I could work and eat (as opposed to run and eat?).
And about a half an hour before I was supposed to meet the other bloggers for our drive to Mill City I took a walk around the Sky Link tunnel thing to explore.
Of course I got lost.
Luckily a helpful stranger saved the day and pointed me in the right direction!
Finally it as time for the games to begin!! I’ve been excited about this trip since Erin from General Mills emailed me months ago. (I’ve also been diligently training for the cereal eating contest since I was 4 years old.)
Some delicious snackage to kick off the events…
And all the Chex mix for happiness:
The amazing people at General Mills basically made my life with this Monican Cheerios box. I think RER needs a signature cereal fo sho.
Happy.
We learned a lot about the process of making Cheerios including a very exciting announcement… Just last week reps from Cheerios announced that the cereal will be going gluten free in July.
To cap off the day we took a tour of the Mill City Museum. It was like an ode to Minneapolis and super interesting! Even though it’s freezing I do really like this place – everyone I’ve met is super friendly. And it is gorgeous!
I just got back from a fancy dinner with the General Mills team and other bloggers. I want to share all the food and fun (it was awesome) but I really need to sleep! I’ll fill ya in tomorrow.
Tedi @ Running with Infertility says
Love cereal! Never tried it with eggnog… Have you?
Elaine says
LOVE the Cheerios box with your name in it. That’s just too cool! Cheerios are the best.
I like cereal in real milk – whole, skim, 2%, whatever. But I like it really cold, so I keep the cereal in the freezer.
Stacy @ Sweating Tulipz says
OMG that chex mix! Holy cow that looks like I could inhale the entire amount of it!
I Love cereal in milk and yogurt…however, I try to stay away because I can’t stick to an appropriate serving size. The whole finish the milk, add more cereal gets me everytime!
Lindsay says
My parents just moved to Minneapolis and my dad actually works for General Mills so I am definitely down with cereal. I prefer cereal with yogurt, I don’t like milk at all. But I guess the other way I enjoy cereal is dry. I hope that all of the cereal eating is fun and make sure to eat lots of hot oatmeal because it is super cold in Minnesota!
Cheri @ Overactive Blogger says
I wish I ate cereal, but I have issues with portion control so things like cereal that come in giant boxes just ain’t for me. But if I had to, I would do honey bunches of oats all day every day.
Kelly says
I eat my cereal in really cold skim milk but don’t drink it after, it’s just for cereal!
runeatrepeat says
I agree on having to have the milk be really cold. I drink it after though 🙂
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
One degree?!? Wow I can’t believe how cold it is and over in California it feels like Spring! Glad you are having a great time. 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Having a blast, but freezing 🙂
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious says
I like cereal on top of froyo. I love the crunch.
Michael Clare says
I love Silk cashew or coconut milk! I sometimes put cereal in greek yogurt- my favorites are oatmeal squares, honey bunches of oats and fiber one original!
Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes says
OMG! That looks like so much fun! What a fun group of bloggers! I bet you ladies are having an absolute blast! How cool to have your own box of cereal!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Gluten free Cheerios?! I’m so excited!! Like, Jessie Spano excited!
runeatrepeat says
Ha!
Nicole says
If you were to create YOUR cereal, what would you choose? Sriracha flavored? Watermelon flavored?
runeatrepeat says
I think it would just be nutty and sweet. I’m a watermelon purist and like to eat it straight up 92% of the time.
Carrie (This Fit Chick) says
um jealous of everything! a) I want my own cereal and b) I want to meet all of you guys!! My fav bloggers in one spot.. pretty darn cool!
Shannon in Tustin says
My favorite used to be peanut butter cheerios but then I went paleo. no more cereal for me. it’s ok-I feel much better eating this way and I’m running faster too! 😀
Erin @ Erin's Inside Job says
I eat cereal all sorts of ways. When I was younger I would add in some half in half like the glutton that I am, but now it is mainly with homemade almond or cashew milk. I had a lot of eggnog left over from the holidays and since my stomach isn’t a huge fan I made some oatmeal using that instead of milk and I think that kind of helped w all the dairy? Eggnog is too delicious for me to not have at least one glass!
Looks like you are having a great time so far!
runeatrepeat says
I love eggnog fo life!
Gianna Davis says
So excited about the gluten free announcement! I have missed them!
Traci says
In milk & dry! Just depends on my mood. Usually dry is when I just want a snack.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Such a fun trip! I eat my cereal with almond milk!
Lisa says
Love everything about this post – of course I’m from Minnesota so I’m not biased at all 🙂 Hope you had a great time. Come back again and I’ll show you the best running routes in the city – we have some good ones!
Linda @ TheFitty says
I can’t believe cheerios are now copying cocoa cola with the name thing!
Rob Runs says
I’m a dry cereal girl, all the way. I don’t like milk of any kind (dairy or non), even the word makes me shiver. My ex used to buy dairy m-word sometimes but I always made him buy the opaque cartons so I wouldn’t even have to see it.
Livi @ Eat, Pray, Work It Out says
I love almond milk when I’m nomming on cereal!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
I am so stoked for GF cheerios!
Ash Bear says
I grew up on skim milk and still love it!
Sally @ sweat out the small stuff says
Always in milk. Unless it’s granola. And I prefer a low fat or whole milk. No nut, soy or skim milk allowed. I am very particular.
Jojo @ Run Fast Eat Lots says
I eat cereal with unsweetened plain almond milk or soy milk
Mandy says
Welcome to my Mpls tundra! I swear if you stuck around you’d get used to the cold…I think some kind of weird blood thickening event happens after a while. I hope you’re getting the chance to do a little exploration outside of the lovely habitrail! And if you ever get the chance to come back in the summer you would love it. Minneapolis really shines in the summer :-).
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
Personalized cereal box, how cool! Would be even better if you got to make your own cereal flavour, oh maybe you will!
Lindsey B says
Welcome to Minneapolis! We are very proud of our city and what it has to offer. I echo everyone else’s thoughts — you FOR SURE need to come back in the summer or fall when the weather is great. I highly suggest coming back the first weekend in October for TC Marathon. Best. Marathon. Ever.
Enjoy the rest of your visit here!!!
Ashley @ Saving Money in your Twenties says
Looks like such a fun trip! I used to only eat dry cereal but now I’ve realized the awesomeness of cereal and milk. I use reg milk just because it’s cheaper but I do love vanilla soy milk + cereal 🙂
Ali says
It’s so fun that you are in Minneapolis! I see my office from your morning run. Make sure to come back when it isn’t so cold out. We have miles and miles of beautiful paths for you to run on!
nicole t says
You guys are here during an insanely cold week! Glad you’re lovin MSP!
Amber S. says
Glad you’re liking it here! (I live just a few miles away from the General Mills headquarters). The winter weather is tough but the summer and fall more than make up for it! Maybe in the future you can visit during that time of year and actually explore by foot! Enjoy!
Phil says
Hi,
A run outside at 1 degrees isnt that bad !
I dont eat cereal very much since I am lactose intolerant … I treat myself sometimes to a bowl with almond milk.
Jessica says
I like my cereal with ice cold skim milk. I also prefer my cereal a little soggy, so I let it sit in the milk for a bit and soften up. Weird, I know…..
