Little Nutella Cake for Me

Uncategorized

12 Feb

Hello! When we last spoke I had just done a 15 miler and ate pancakes. Ahhh. Good times Smile

Yesterday was pretty low key, lunch, errands, bad TV – you know the drill…IMG_6003 (800x600)

Dinner was a broccoli slaw scramble. Oddly enough Ben finds this meal disgusting and had a turkey burger instead. More for me.IMG_6015 (800x600)

I had two glasses of SkinnyGirl Sangria – I’m loving it!IMG_6018 (600x800)

My main mission yesterday was buying ingredients for my mom’s birthday cake! I was torn over what recipe to use after twitter friends gave me a ton of ideas. Ultimately, I went with chocolate over carrot cake since it’s 1,000x easier and wouldn’t involve me shaving off my knuckles as I grated a pound of carrots.

I used Sara’s Flourless Nutella cake, mostly because this would give me an excuse to buy Nutella. The ingredients were simple – butter, chocolate, eggs, sugar and nutella. IMG_6020 (600x800)

I got Ben to help in exchange for an early taste of the cake. Here he is making stiff peaks Winking smile

In the end there was chocolate everywhere! I am the messiest cook baker. It was on my shirt, forearm, all over the counters…and a lot got in my mouth.IMG_6031 (800x600)

Ta-da! Fresh out of the oven! The added bonus was I had to buy a spring form pan for this recipe and I’ve been wanting one for a while! I found one for $7.99 at a discount store.IMG_6032 (800x600)

Every time I bake something I make a mini-version in a separate ramekin so I can taste it without cutting into the masterpiece.  IMG_6035 (800x600)

We spent the rest of the night trying not to cut into the cake. Vegas had to hold Ben down at one point. IMG_6045 (800x600)

Not really. Vegas loves to lay on Ben like this. Since cats love fish I gave him a Swedish Fish, he was not pleased.IMG_6041 (800x600)

Sundays are a REST DAY so I took a nice little walk with Ben and made breakfast.

Ben calls this Mexican Eggs Benedict…IMG_6053 (800x533)

We shared fruitIMG_6057 (800x533)

and I made eggs and toast (unpictured turkey bacon was in there somewhere)IMG_6068 (800x533)

I cannot wait to show my mom her cake! I hope she likes it Smile IMG_6071 (800x533)

Okay, late for church – see you later!

Your cake turned out great! For carrot cake I always buy a bag of pre-shredded carrots because I’m too lazy to actually shred them haha

that is a great idea putting a little in a ramekin. I always dig a little out of the center and cover it up with icing!

That cake looks really pretty. today I made chocolate donut holes–but they were raw and vegan (I am not a raw foodie or a vegan, but I have friends who are). Mostly flax seed. Those friends are in for a treat and a surprise! ha ha

That mini-cake for tasting is a great idea- I completely agree, it’s almost impossible not to cut into a delicious cake when it’s just sitting there staring at you!!

Vegas is so precious. My dog sleeps on us like that. It’s kinda ridiculous. And you are strong not to dive into that cake! Looks awesome!

I love the pic of Vegas. Our Enzo loves to sleep on Allen like that. He kneads Allen’s belly, lays down, and conks out!
