Run Eat Repeat

No Cherry Bomb

Breakfast

I mentioned recently that I’m experimenting with protein powder. I bought a bunch of different flavors before committing to one big container.

So far I’ve tried Cherries Jubilee, Chocolate PB and today I tried Strawberry. Cherry  is still clearly the best! The strawberry today was disappointing…

I added ice, spinach, blubes (hence the color), water and chia seeds.IMG_6934

After I finished this I went back for another piece of toast – I love toast 🙂IMG_6932

Question: Do you use protein powders in your smoothies?  Is there one that changed your life?

Me: I’m pretty sure the Cherries Jubilee is going to be my next obsession, but we’ll confirm that after I try Pina Colada and Cookies ‘n Cream.

I’m hoping the Pina Colada makes me feel like I’m sipping a cocktail on the beach…DSCN1427

But, I also wish I could find cookies that had no calories and pizza that made me skinny…oh well, a girl can dream.

I buy my protein powders from bodybuilding.com and I use the Syntha 6 cookies and cream. I love this flavor because it will mix perfectly with all fruits – it makes my smoothies creamy and gives it that added protein. I always feel staaaaaaaarved if I forget to add the protein.

I used to buy and use the Jay Robb whey protein a lot — strawberry or vanilla in yogurt and chocolate or vanilla in oat bran. But I stopped using it so much lately, and now it tastes funny to me (my big tub of strawberry powder might also have gone a bit stale). But I’m trying to split breakfast in half on my run days: a piece of AB toast and a little bit of fruit pre-run, and then something protein-y for second breakfast. A cold protein smoothie would be great, post-run!

I don’t use protein powder because they have extra sugars as well (and I have to really watch that!). My typical smoothie would be 1 cup of plain yogurt, 1 cup frozen cherries, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and then some cacoa nibs if I wanted chocolate. Then I’ll either have a couple of eggs scrambled or add pasteurized egg whites to the smoothie. But yours sound yummy!

I haven’t found a protein powder that I adore yet. But I love the little single packets. I can try a bunch of different kinds before committing.

I have yet to find a protein powder that I love. Have you found that they make your smoothies more filling?

I LOOOOVE the cookies & cream version, I just blend it with some soy milk, vanilla extract and ice. It reminds me of an Oreo McFlurry…
