Runner Tip of the Day

image

Today’s Runner Tips are from Amanda  – You can find her on Instagram  @TooTallFritz

You can give another runner ONE tip. What is it?

Learn to take care of yourself. Running is so much more than just going thru the motions but also staying healthy mentally & physically. Learn to rub our your muscles & any bumps or lumps in the tissue, even when it hurts. Time spent paying attention to little aches & pains can pay dividends on the run and save you $$ in therapy treatments down the road.

What do you do when you feel like quitting? Have a mantra?

I’ve ran 43 marathons to date. I’ve felt like quitting plenty of times. I just flat out lie to myself when the going gets rough. “Just get to the finish line and you NEVER have to run again. If you feel like running after this, you can just run. You never have to register for another marathon EVER again. Just finish this one. Just finish it.”

What’s your secret to staying motivated?
I’m married with children. I have plenty of motivation to get out of the house. For those living a slightly more blissful life, I’d recommend keeping a race on the calendar. Running is not a seasonal sport. Make sure you cycle through the seasons. Take down time when the weather is less than ideal. My next break is scheduled for January. I’m in the Midwest & it will be cold and snowy. I’m looking forward to that break but I also have a March marathon planned so that my break doesn’t overextend itself. Its important to cycle and build in rest periods for both mental & physical health.

I skipped my run today. I just wasn’t feeling it. I started to beat myself up about it, but life’s too short. I walked to and from school. I managed to get 15,000 steps in today- so I am proud of that. Hopefully I will get used to the cold weather- it snuck up on me.

I ran for 45 minutes and did 4 hill drills. I found a new hill to run up, and I really like it! For breakfast I had a Starbucks Bacon & Gouda sandwich, some coffee, and a protein smoothie. Kept me full until 11am.
