Review: Penguin Sport-Wash

Penguin Sport-Wash – “Keeps High-Tech Fabrics High-Tech” sport wash

What it is: Penguin Sport-Wash: Detergent made for high tech fabrics. It keeps their breathability. Also, removes odors.

What it’s for: Active wear.

How to use: Use one cap full instead of regular detergent in your washing machine. Can also be used to hand wash.

Does it work? Yes. My main attraction to this product was removing odors. For some reason a lot of my running gear has a stink to it, even after I just washed it!

Sport-wash did help eliminate most of this issue. Some of my older, stinkier gear did not become completely odor free, but I do think using this stuff from the very beginning would have prevented that.

Would I get it again? I don’t normally buy things like this, but I had a 25% off coupon at my local running store and this was something  that caught my eye. I would hate to have to buy a separate detergent for my running gear, but if it means keeping my clothes from smelling I am tempted to stick with it.

Any negatives? The only negative would be cost. A small bottle lasts about 20 washes and is $10.0. Also, I believe to really  make it effective it has to be used consistently.

Hope you enjoyed the review! Happy Sweating 🙂 monica in cold

The boyfriend got me a bottle for Christmas…. hmmm does he think I’m stinky? I LOVE it but yes, way expensive!

Dick’s Sporting Goods carries a similar product, WIN. It retails for about $7 a bottle. When you think about the extra money you spend on technical gear and sweak-wicking clothing it makes sense to invest in their care too!

I love the stuff, but it is expensive. It definitely does help remove odors!

I stopped using this but have not started again. Once other thing the wash does it help to NOT ‘clog’ up the fabric so that you can have the breathability in the fabric as well. Now that we are using it consistently, I have found it making a difference.
Workout stuff really does stink in the end though….

I have the same problem. I should try this detergent, but I’m afraid, like you said, that it is something that needs to be used consistently…and that’s pretty pricey. Hmmmm….

I found that this detergent really helped in the heat of the summer…that didn’t end until late October in Florida.

But, I was still having some problems so a friend recommended soaking in the sport wash first, and then washing in the sport wash. Totally helped.

Finally, my BF and I started washing our workout gear separately and that took away the final odor. I guess our pheromones weren’t blending well in the wash.

I didn’t know there was a sports wash for your sports clothes. I can’t imagine spending on a bottle of it. Seems costly.

I’ve always been curious about things like this. I have one jacket in particular that I wear to/from the gym and on the occasional run when it’s cold out. It smells really bad but I love it! I wonder if it would get rid of the bad smell? I should try. Thanks for the review!

This is gross but I have a shirt circa 1998 that I love and it smells like old PE clothes no matter what I do. I may buy the detergent just for that and my running gear.

I’ve found white vinegar works well. I just add a cup or half a cup to a load of stinky gym clothes, gets most of the stink out and it is CHEAP!

Wow, I’ve never even heard of a product like that. Washing my under armour (well, my aunderarmour-like gear) has always been a concern to me, as I hate to wear them out in the washer, yet who wants to show up to a run in the stinky gear? This will be great, considering it works. Wonderful review!
