Monican’s Running Survey:

1. Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?

Beach please. (See what I did there?)

2. If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?

I don’t know the names of the flavors, but I’d go with green (lime?). I drink whatever they have though.

3. If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?

Shoes. I always want new shoes. That or some good running shorts. I feel like you can get good sports bras and running tops from anywhere (like Target) but shoes and shorts have to be legit.

4. Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and fast you want to run?

In theory I like to follow a plan, but in real like I like to do whatever I feel like.

5. Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start with the downhill and end on the uphill?

Start uphill and coast back! That’s actually how the path near my house is, it’s all uphill out and downhill back.

6. When you can’t run, what type of cross training do you choose to do?

Crying is my only other cardio.

7. What’s your preference – out and back or point to point or loop runs?

I like it all.

8. If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a….?

Get fitted for the correct shoes for your body/distance/feet/other.  And deodorant.

9. Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?

I live in Orange County, and it’s pretty heavily populated so not often. I saw coyotes on a walk the other day though!

I lived in Maryland for a year and one time saw the HUGEST dog of my life on the trail. I got so scared!!!! This dog was big enough to kill me for sure.

Then, I realized it was a deer. HA! I had never seen a legit wild animal on a run before that.

10. Ever gotten lost while out on a run?

Not that I remember, but probably.

11. If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days, what would that be?

Watermelon. It’s my favorite food before and after any activity.

12. Capris or shorts….what do you run in most often?

Summer – shorts. Winter – capris.

13. At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?

I don’t warm up until Mile 8. Isn’t that ridiculous?! So short runs are just a bunch of kinks and then it’s done. On long run days or even races I don’t know ‘who showed up’ until Mile 8.

14. What do you do with your key when you run?

I have a keypad on my door!!! It has changed my life. If I drive to another location to run I put it in a SpiBelt.

15. If you could relive any race you have done in the past, which one would it be?

This is a hard one! Immediately three different races came to mind… New York City Marathon, OC Marathon (where I ran with SR and I got a PR) or really any race I ran with SR because I heart her), and RNR New Orleans Marathon (because that weekend was just so fun).

    Mountain run. We are short in supply for beaches here. I love the mountain air. I would love to re-live the NYC Marathon in 2011. It was my first marathon. Amazing experience.

    I love running by the beach but today I ran in the mountains. It was a refreshing change if pace.

    I’m gonna go with mountain trails, because I seriously think elevation is easier than sand. I hate sand with a passion. I also don’t know any gatorade flavors. When I send my man to the store, I ask for the blue one. This also saves him time reading labels though, so I figure it’s a win-win.

    Mountain.

    Instead of which race i could redo can i pick the one i most want to do……..RNR New Orleans!!!! Mostly because I want to visit New orleans soooo bad and what better way to see it than run it!!

    Beach! I love running by the water. I’ll keep my mountains trails for hiking and nature walks. 🙂
    I would love to re live my 2014 New Jersey marathon. It was a huge PR and I crossed the finish line with my friend Jane. I never hit the wall. It was awesome.
