I am still beaming from the ING New York City Marathon! And I thought about all the awesomeness on my run today.
10 Reasons To Run the NYC Marathon
10. Even with 45,000+ people the streets are less crowded than the subway on a weekday morning.
9. You get to pee off the bridge without getting arrested. (You might be disqualified from the race though.) And yes, I saw a lot of pee-ers.
8. You can take candy from strangers.
7. The signs.

6. Normally strangers on the streets of NYC won’t look you in the eye. During the marathon they cheer for you like your best friend!
5. Who knows, maybe Banksy is running along side you…

4. You get to be on TV! So, I kinda considered it my ‘One Day Reality Show’.

3. It’s probably the fastest way to get from Staten Island to Central Park during rush hour.
2. Central Park Finish Line crowds make your feel like you’re an NFL starter on Super Bowl Sunday!
1. New York City Pizza. Soft Pretzels. Bagels. Black & White Cookies…
Also – the rest of the day I wore my medal and tons of people told me “Good job!!!” And asked me how it went!
From my secret crush, David Letterman
“Top 10 Signs You Are Not Going to Win the NYC Marathon”:
Theodora (who lent me her back up watch) got her sub-4 hour marathon PR at the race!
SkinnyRunner’s New York City Marathon Recap <- she took this off.
One day…
I ran the NYCM also & loved every minute of it, with the exception of the additional miles walked just to get out of the finishers corral. I kept asking the volunteers where the bathrooms were!
BTW, love my big orange poncho.
As a native New Yorker who works in the city AND ran the NYCM, I think this list is great.. except for #10. Not true at all, especially in rush hour. 😉
I really want to do this marathon some day! Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Are you and your family struggling to lose weight and live a healthier life?
Television production company is looking for unhealthy/overweight families of 3 or more in the Greater Philadelphia area. Chosen families will be given the chance to work with health and fitness experts to lose weight and get healthy! The show will be aired on a national health network. Email us with your family’s story at ngpfamily@nancyglassproductions.com.
Congratulations!!
OMG! I want to run it so bad next year! I kinda wanted to before, but after reading your list I want to run it! It’s #1 on my dream marathons list lol
Love that NYCM!
Love the sign! Cute hat by the way also 🙂
i’m glad you had such a great time! i think i’m officially adding the nyc marathon to my bucket list =)
Great post. Congratulations. I was there to cheer my husband on, it was an amazing weekend. I was supposed to run last year, and still hope to sometime in the future. Just a little jealous that my husband beat me to it (he won a contest that sponsored him in the race)!
I loved this marathon! I think it is a must do for any long distance runner. We also wore our medals the next day and many people gave us shout outs.
David Letterman is the best! 🙂
Love your top 10!!!
You forgot #11: Hanging with Coach Steve before the start. We even ate oatmeal together.
You have turned into a fantastic runner and posted a stellar time but when you go that fast you can’t enjoy a beer in Brooklyn, high-fiving hundreds of people, running with us regular people and stopping on the bridges for pictures.
I’m going to start training for the Wildflower Triathlon next May which means I have to train faster. I’m coming to get you. When’s our next race?
Steve! Maybe one day you can actually run with me and we can talk about life, liberty and the pursuit for 4 hours. I’d like that.
This weekend I’m headed to Orlando for Wine & Dine. Want to join me in Vegas the following weekend?
I would love to join you in Vegas again but I have a ChiRunning Instructor retreat. Plus, you know me and Vegas. I don’t sleep in Vegas which means I don’t perform well on race day, usually nursing a hangover with a Bloody Mary. The Vegas RnR marathon is kinda of boring. The half is better. But I will miss the beer pong.
P.S. We did run 5 miles together at MCM and we did run together at BTR 50k but both times you left me in your dust.
False. You left me in the dust during the first 5 of MCM. But I forgive you.
I love wearing my race medal around the day of the race… I figure it is really the only time that I can do it… a week later might just be weird!
I would kill to run the NYC marathon!! Ah so jealous of you!! Besides the large entry fee i saw that after 2014 the guareenteed entry after your third time applying to the lottery is going away 🙁 just my luck that 2015 would be my third time applying. Ghr!! I mean I know there’s qualifying times but 3:10 is nearly impossible for these legs! I’m trying but so far no luck! Guess I will just have to vicariously live through you and SkinnyRunner and all the other bloggers that ran it!!!
Congrats on running it of course and doing so well!!!
I did an 8 mile run yesterday as my first longer run after MCM and I wanted to die, or more accurately, my legs wanted to kill me. I can’t imagine doing another marathon two weekends after!
This is hilarious! I’m so glad you had a good time. It’s definitely on my bucket list to run.
Haha love this! I can’t wait to do this marathon one day – it is on my wish list!!
Such and awesome job. I think you should wear the medal around everyday… we could start a new trend in necklaces.
I love your headband, did you pick that up in NY?
Got it at home – Claire’s in the mall 🙂
ack! You are killing me! 😉
You know we all think you’re awesome, but I should point out that your husband is pretty super, too. A man who will support his spouse as she flies around the country running races all the time is a good man!
Those are all great! It’s definitely the top of my running bucket list!
Why do I keep thinking that NYCM is much better than Boston, Chicago, London or Berlin? Been having this mental image floating around me since since since…the beginning of time. I should take my chance and put my name into the lottery!
Yay! I ran the NYCM on Sunday, too, and had an amazing, memorable time (even the course was tougher than I expected and I kind of felt like
dying the last mile and a half). One geeky, unexpected thing I like about the race is the poncho they give you at the end: weird but super cozy! Also, the incredible crowds in Brooklyn are another reason.
They made the first 14-or-so miles fly by.
We went to the Letterman taping today and it was SO much fun. You have to do it the next time you run the NYCM!
I may or may not be unsure of what a black and white cookie is…
Looks amazing! Congratulations!
Yeah! Congrats! My husband and our running club were cheering for you all (I was sadly out of town)–did you happen to see a sign welcoming you to Queens right after the bridge? If so, that was them. 🙂
All great reasons. Especially #1!
haa great sign!
Awesome! Many congratulations to you! Ugh, I love black and white cookies SO much. I spent a summer living in DC in college and I swear that’s where the 9 pound weight gain came from:)
Now I wish I got a black & white cookie!
I am glad it was you & not me running! 😉
I ran the central park ladies half this spring. I loved it because of all the delicious foods I was able to eat afterwards 🙂 (and you’re so right about #3!)
