Where Does Quinoa Rank?

Running

Hello! I have the winners of the MCM Marathon and RnR LA Marathon race contests ready to announce! Plus the Shift Con winner. But first let’s talk running and eating…

I ran a little bit of speed work this morning with a few 800s with music. I’ve been listening exclusively to podcasts while running and walking so switching it up to music gives me a lil boost!

Yesterday I bought a bunch of super ripe bananas to freeze for smoothies for the week. I’m pretty excited about it, is that sad?

And last night I cooked!

I’ve been so lazy about cooking lately so this was a treat and I felt all fancy and responsible. I made salmon, quinoa and green beans. I have come to the conclusion I like rice a lot more than quinoa. Actually  I prefer like 88 carbs over quinoa right now in my life.

Vegas likes to put fur on my workout shorts. Thanks cat.

Question: What do you prefer – rice or quinoa or potatoes?

What was your workout today?

Quinoa! It’s my favorite, but I love to add extra flavor. I sauté some onions in a little butter (still healthy, right?) and then add the dry quinoa to that mixture to get coated in delicious flavor. Once the quinoa is coated, you can cook it in veggie or chicken stock. Total game changer, in my opinion.

Potatoes ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. But I try to limit them because I know there are probably better options for me.

I love that trader joe’s makes frozen quinoa and brown rice. I keep those on hand so I don’t have to mess around with my stove. I use the rice for homemade fried rice all the time and it works great!

Wow! I’m surprised so many people here are anti-quinoa. I think it tastes so much better than rice/potatoes. It’s the only one of the three that I feel has natural flavor- kinda tastes buttery. It’s also the only one of these that doesn’t upset my tummy (less starch I guess?)

Try freekeh! It has a little more protein and fiber than quinoa, and I think it tastes better. 🙂

I hate quinoa with a passion. I try to eat it because it’s “healthier”, but I have a hard time gagging it down. Rice and potatoes, FTW!!

Quinoa for sure. No workout for me today…it’s my birthday so I am taking a rest day. 🙂

Rice, hands down, over quinoa. Quinoa is another of those things that I’ve tried to force myself to like, but fail miserably. Probably rice over potatoes too…but I do love a good baked potato…maybe both at the same time?? A bit much….probably….

I will always pick potatoes as a carb of choice, except when I’m watching my carbs (like now), so I choose quinoa for now. *sigh* I love you baked potato!

    Potatoes: sweet!

Didn’t get to the run yesterday; took the dog to the vet after work, then to pick up an Rx at Costco. BUT, I’ll get it done tonight before the Dodger game. No run, no watch! 🙂

I’ve been on quinoa kick lately… I cook it in chicken broth, then mix it with steamed broccoli and the cheese sauce i make for mac and cheese. It’s like a slightly healthier version of mac and cheese. (aside from all the cheese that is).

I like quinoa, probably more than rice. But I’d choose potatoes over both anyday.

Sweet potatoes, quinoa and then rice. I usually make my quinoa with coconut or almond milk for added flavor!

I like Quinoa but I have to buy the stuff that you just heat straight from the packet cos I screw it up every time I try to make it properly! I’m actually loving lentils, since I’m trying to keep my protein levels high. I make a great lentil, egg and veggie stir fry/hash sort of thing. YUM.

I love quinoa and potatoes, can eat it everyday. I put my potatoes in the air fryer, very healthy (no extra oil), and still crunchy.

    Potatoes…especially fries/chips. 😛
    LOL!
Ok, serious talk – baked potatoes or stirfried potatoes with veg; which is probably odd since I grew up eating rice and should naturally lean towards rice. Never had the chance to try quinoa even though I keep hearing about them.

I’ll take potatoes any day. Sweet potato fries are my favorite!!! My workout today was with my trainer. He busted my butt (literally) with a lot of leg and glute exercises.

Some people think its gross but sweet potatoes with a little peanut butter are one of my favorite foods in the world.

Potato wins. Always. Rice and quinoa are both ok too (I had a mix of both at dinner).

I’d pick potatoes first for french fries or sweet potatoes with butter and brown sugar.
quinoa is second and rice third. I actually had quinoa today.
I ran 3 miles this evening. Short and sweet. Just really wanted to keep myself honest with my mid-week runs that I tend to bail on too frequently.
