Hello from New Orleans!!! I am having a blast.
Last night I checked out Bourbon St. and it was epic. This hand grenade helped make it even epic-er…
This morning I woke up bright and early to watch the ING Run for Something Better kids race. The kids were doing their final 1.2 miles.
For more information check out Orange Laces.com
I’m going to be making a few announcements about the program and how you can help soon – stay tuned!
After that I headed to the expo at the Convention Center
I said a quick hello to my friends at REFUEL…
And then walked around checking out the loot…
I kinda love this advice from the RnR Medical Director…
“It’s too late to start now…” Ha!
I’ve said this over and over here, but I am a salty sweater and need A LOT of salt in the days leading up to the race.
And I saw a bunch of RER readers today! Victoria is running the half tomorrow and a few others said hello too! See you guys tomorrow! Good luck everyone!!
Um, I’ve been instagraming a lot this weekend so I am asking you to kindly follow me. I mean, Brooks Running was only following 2 people yesterday…
and one of them is ME!
I kinda died when I saw my name next to Scott Jurek. Love. I’m @RunEatRepeat on Instagram
Now to the “Eat” portion of my day…
The #1 reason I wanted to come to New Orleans was for the food. So expect a lot of good eating this weekend! We hit up for lunch Grand Isle for lunch since it was close to the expo and we were starving.
As soon as we walked in the waitress told us they had broiled crawfish and I knew I had to try them. When in Rome, eat some shellfish. Or something.
This looked like a ton, but you barely get any ‘meat’ from them. This big ol’ thing was only $6!
She explained to us how to eat them because I had no clue at all. I think I got the hang of it pretty quickly! I am an aggressive eater
Chandra was a little apprehensive, but eventually came around.
And now I’m headed out for more food and drinks and fun! The race is tomorrow so I’ll try to take it easy, but that might be difficult considering the location…
Question: Ever tried crawfish – thoughts?
I liked it!
Jac @ Challenged & Running in the Bike Lane says
I do like crawfish but it’s really hard for me to get around how they look. I also love lobster but if I slam a really good beer right before, I can shell the lobster without giving up!
Jenna Watson says
It looks like you had a lot of fun. Wish I was there. I really miss the good food down there. Good time for sure.
Nicole says
I love crawfish! Luckily I get to eat some in a couple of weeks when we go visit my husband’s family near the gulf. The corn and potatoes always taste so good too from cooking with all the spices!
Catherine B says
As I live in Louisiana….. Crawfish is a Lent staple on Fridays!!!! 🙂
Ame' says
I’m from Hattiesburg, MS only about an hour and a half from NOLA. Crawfish is a staple! Try pecan praline and shrimp po’boys while you are down there too. There is a reason girls are curvier in the south … we got good food! Have fun!
Sue says
Hey what does the “Please” paragragh say?
Samantha says
I’m from southern Louisiana and love love love boiled crawfish. Luckily I can have it whenever I want since we have a crawfish pond behind my house. NOLA is definitely a unique experience.
Hannah says
I’m so glad you enjoyed Louisiana! I’m a native so I always like when people treat us like we’re special down here 🙂 Crawfish (and hand grenades) are oh so delicious!
Ellie Kramer says
Welcome to NOLA! So glad I got to see you running today- helped me make it through my first full marathon!!!!
[email protected] says
YA! So glad to hear you are loving it….and tried crawfish. The hubs hates those little mudbugs, mainly because “it takes works to shell them.” I had a trio of crawfish last night (cooked 3 ways) and am having boiled ones for lunch today. Best.EVER. And…healthy….as long as you don’t dip them in garlic butter.
runeatrepeat says
but the garlic butter is the best part…
chiara says
I can eat my weight in crawfish. I don’t even care if it’s the messiest meal ever.
runeatrepeat says
Hey Chiara! How’s it going?!
Karen @ Runner Girl Eats says
I am so jealous of NOLA time! Hope you are eating lots of beignets too!

I Love that medal, so nice! My son did a kids marathon last summer and is signed up to do it again this summer.
TorontoRunner says
I LOVE seafood but never ever tried crawfish before – I NEED to!
have fun and good luck tomorrow – you’re going to do amaaazing!
Jodi says
I went to Louisiana a couple times for college softball and tried both crawfish and alligator there and liked both.
Kary says
Good luck tomorrow! Crawfish are yummy once you get the hang of eating them. Watch out for those “hurricanes” they sneak up on you and wipe you out!
Gillian says
Have fun! Those hand grenades are dangerous, just the right amount of sweet and sour taste to hide all the alcohol!
Shay @ Whine Less, Breathe More says
Look at the cuties run! Love it!
Nice looking medal, too.
Bri says
I’ve never had crawfish – I’m with Chandra – they kind of creep me out. Good luck tomorrow!
Melissa @My Peach Life says
I am New Orleans also! I am running the full tomorrow (this will be my second). We were also at Pat O’Brians last night, the piano bar is sooo much fun. Good luck tomorrow, maybe I will see you around 🙂
Christine @ BookishlyB says
I’d love to go to New Orleans but crawfish and all other little critters from the sea turn my stomach. Beignets, though, I can get on board with those.
Cori @ olivetorun says
I’m sure seeing the kids was pretty inspirational! 🙂 Looks like you’re having a great time.
Brennan @ Yum Run says
Oooh! I’m glad you had fun down there. NOLA is the best. I mean… you can walk around with open containers. What’s not to love?!
Angela says
Never had crawfish, they look a little creepy but I would try them if I was there too!
Lindsey says
I’m so jealous! I would love to do the Rock N’ Roll Half. None of them are within a reasonable distance from where I live 🙁
Good luck! Enjoy!
Heather @ Run Eat Play says
I think that little crawfish looking at me would freak me out a bit….
Looks like your having a great time!
Kim @ (Just) Trying says
Consider going to Mother’s for breakfast after the race tomorrow. Crawfish omelette and peach pancakes. Very authentic restaurant. Also, hit up Cafe du Monde for beignets. Have fun! Love that race and town.
Emily @SinfulNutrition says
I was just in NOLA for Mardi Gras a few weeks ago and had a blast! I too experienced a hand grenade and was introduced to my new love of a Pimm cup! Didn’t get the chance to have some crawfish though : / Have fun!!!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Pimm cups are the best! It’s a type of liquor you can only get in NOLA – definitely try one if you can!
Nicole says
No, that’s not true. Pimm’s is originally from England, but you can get it in most well-stocked liquor stores. A Pimm’s cup is indeed delicious.
