Hello from New Orleans!!! I am having a blast. bourbon st

Last night I checked out Bourbon St. and it was epic. This hand grenade helped make it even epic-er…skinny genadepat obriens

This morning I woke up bright and early to watch the ING Run for Something Better kids race. The kids were doing their final 1.2 miles.ing kids rock

For more information check out Orange Laces.com ing kids rock

I’m going to be making a few announcements about the program and how you can help soon – stay tuned!orange laces

After that I headed to the expo at the Convention Centerrnr nola

Check out the medal – rock n roll marathon

I said a quick hello to my friends at REFUEL…

And then walked around checking out the loot…race expo

I kinda love this advice from the RnR Medical Director…rx to rock

“It’s too late to start now…” Ha!

too late now

I’ve said this over and over here, but I am a salty sweater and need  A LOT of salt in the days leading up to the race. salt

And I saw a bunch of RER readers today! Victoria is running the half tomorrow and a few others said hello too! See you guys tomorrow! Good luck everyone!!

Um, I’ve been instagraming a lot this weekend so I am asking you to kindly follow me. I mean, Brooks Running was only following 2 people yesterday…brooks running instagram

and one of them is ME!

I kinda died when I saw my name next to Scott Jurek. Love. I’m @RunEatRepeat on Instagram

Now to the “Eat” portion of my day…

The #1 reason I wanted to come to New Orleans was for the food. So expect a lot of good eating this weekend! We hit up for lunch Grand Isle for lunch since it was close to the expo and we were starving.

IMG_1214 (600x800)IMG_1205 (800x600)

As soon as we walked in the waitress told us they had broiled crawfish and I knew I had to try them. When in Rome, eat some shellfish. Or something.IMG_1209 (800x600)image

This looked like a ton, but you barely get any ‘meat’ from them. This big ol’ thing was only $6!IMG_1206 (800x600)

She explained to us how to eat them because I had no clue at all. I think I got the hang of it pretty quickly! I am an aggressive eater Winking smileIMG_1207 (800x600)

Chandra was a little apprehensive, but eventually came around. 1361643033486

With a salad.IMG_1211 (800x600)

And now I’m headed out for more food and drinks and fun! The race is tomorrow so I’ll try to take it easy, but that might be difficult considering the location…

Question: Ever tried crawfish – thoughts?

I liked it!

I do like crawfish but it’s really hard for me to get around how they look. I also love lobster but if I slam a really good beer right before, I can shell the lobster without giving up!

I love crawfish! Luckily I get to eat some in a couple of weeks when we go visit my husband’s family near the gulf. The corn and potatoes always taste so good too from cooking with all the spices!

I’m from Hattiesburg, MS only about an hour and a half from NOLA. Crawfish is a staple! Try pecan praline and shrimp po’boys while you are down there too. There is a reason girls are curvier in the south … we got good food! Have fun!

YA! So glad to hear you are loving it….and tried crawfish. The hubs hates those little mudbugs, mainly because “it takes works to shell them.” I had a trio of crawfish last night (cooked 3 ways) and am having boiled ones for lunch today. Best.EVER. And…healthy….as long as you don’t dip them in garlic butter.

Good luck tomorrow! Crawfish are yummy once you get the hang of eating them. Watch out for those “hurricanes” they sneak up on you and wipe you out!

I’d love to go to New Orleans but crawfish and all other little critters from the sea turn my stomach. Beignets, though, I can get on board with those.

Consider going to Mother’s for breakfast after the race tomorrow. Crawfish omelette and peach pancakes. Very authentic restaurant. Also, hit up Cafe du Monde for beignets. Have fun! Love that race and town.

I was just in NOLA for Mardi Gras a few weeks ago and had a blast! I too experienced a hand grenade and was introduced to my new love of a Pimm cup! Didn’t get the chance to have some crawfish though : / Have fun!!!

Pimm cups are the best! It’s a type of liquor you can only get in NOLA – definitely try one if you can!

No, that’s not true. Pimm’s is originally from England, but you can get it in most well-stocked liquor stores. A Pimm’s cup is indeed delicious.
