Thanksgiving is about 60 days away!
It’s my favorite day of the year. But it’s also a day surrounded by delicious FOOD and sometimes it opens the flood gates to a “feast fest” until Christmas. I don’t want to gain 10 pounds this holiday season, do you?
Actually, it would be kind of nice to show up on Thanksgiving a little more fit and toned!
Maybe even a little HOT to (turkey) Trot?!
So, I have created a Turkey Trot Training program for anyone who wants to run a 5K or 10K on Thanksgiving (or that following weekend). It’s a very popular race week so I’m sure you can find a race near you. Check your community/city calendar or Running in the USA. (search for races on or near Nov 28).

The Program:

Yes, only $12.00! Because I really would like you to sign up for a Turkey Trot. Nothing keeps you honest like a 3.1 or 6.2 mile race looming in the distance
Sign up here: Hot to Turkey Trot 5K or 10k
CLOSED! Unfortunately this training program is no longer accepting new runners.
Stay tuned for my next program!

All signed up for the 5k we have one here in Ms the weekend before Thanksgiving. Been running while I was deployed and now that I am back I want to eventually try a half marathon. Figure this would be a good one to start with. Thanks for the plan!
Kelly @ www.alwaysstartwithasmile.com says
I just signed up! I hope I’m not too late!!
runeatrepeat says
I’ll get you the first email tomorrow! Thanks for playing 🙂

Monica, I’m so excited about this! My first race ever was the Turkey Trot in my city two years ago and I had just started running. I was able to run maybe half of it, but fell in love. Anywho, I’ve been running on and off since then and finally got focused on it this summer and have never felt better. I was just thinking about the race this year and how I really want to be able to run the whole distance for the first time ever – it’s 8K – and then I hopped over to your blog and saw this and knew it was meant to be. Thanks for offering this, it’s going to be motivational and a lot of fun. I love your blog – it inspires me and makes me laugh on a daily basis. Thanks for being you 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Thanks Gloria! Hope you rock the race this year!!
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Such a great idea!!
runeatrepeat says
Thanks Laura – I appreciate it especially from you 🙂
Gina says
Hi Monica! Is there any way I could contact you about a half marathon training plan that is around the same time?
runeatrepeat says
Yes, email me at runeatrepeat at gmail
Penny says
Running is great exercise and I do that most of the time too! i am doing the 5:2 fast program to lose weight and I accompany it with the 5:2 fast formula. Using the formula helps me run even if I am in my fasting days. One of these days if I am not busy anymore I will sign up with programs like these. Thanks for some enlightenment!

What’s up Dear, are you genuinely visiting this web site daily, if so after that you will absolutely obtain
pleasant know-how.
Nicole @ Pink Elephant on Parade says
oh man, I was already scheduled to eat excessively as a result of having to interact with extended family and then run through target shouting “buy everything!” but maybe I could squeeze this in, too…
runeatrepeat says
Ha! I like your turkey day schedule 🙂 Hope you squeeze in a run too!
adria biasi says
Hey,
I was wondering if you knew of anyone interested in running a random marathon November 17th, its the Surfers Point Marathon in Ventura, CA. It is the first year and looks like a nice course, but I cannot run it anymore because of my internship with my schooling conflicts with scheduling. If you don’t know of anyone off the top of your head, can you post it on the blog sometime? They allow transfers and I only paid 65!!! Super good deal for a full 🙂 my email is [email protected]
http://www.surferspointmarathon.com/
runeatrepeat says
Hey Adria,
I don’t think I can run it since my Nov schedule is crazy. But, I’ll ask around. Is it sold out?
adria biasi says
No it is not, but the price has definitely gone up! But mine would only be $65. Thank you for replying 🙂
Jen says
All signed up! Thank you, this is exactly what I needed!
runeatrepeat says
Thanks for playing!
Nikki @ grab your kicks says
I’ll be doing a turkey trot too! Mine is a 5 mile run sponsored by a local grocery store and we’ll get pumpkin pies to take home at the finish!
runeatrepeat says
Pie bonus!
Tabatha Rhodes says
Woot! Got all signed up! 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Thanks for your patience!!
Laura P says
Will you ever do a full marathon training program?
runeatrepeat says
I’m actually working on one now!
Ashley says
I would love to sign up for this but it conflicts with the half I’m training for. I’m holding out for the next full training program. . . because I’m gonna need some serious motivation. I am convinced my body will break at 13.3
runeatrepeat says
Good luck on the half!!! You want to do a virtual full mary training?
Erika says
Ahh this is perfect! Definitely going to sign up even if I don’t end up doing a turkey trot race. I’ll still go for a run on Thanksgiving Day.
runeatrepeat says
Yeah! Thanks for joining!!
Lauren says
This might be a dumb question, but can you elaborate on the “hot to trot” options (and what level of runner those would be for)? This wouldn’t be my first 5K, but I’m definitely not advanced either.
runeatrepeat says
The 5K run walk is for your first 5k or if you are coming back after time off. The other “hot to trot” options will provide additional workout suggestions for toning.
TartanJogger tartanjogger.wordpress.com says
So cool! I’ll be thinking of you all on Thanksgiving, while I’m at my desk 🙁
At least I’ll get to watch football at night! 🙂
runeatrepeat says
Boo! At least pack an epic lunch?!
TartanJogger tartanjogger.wordpress.com says
Great idea!
I could get into the spirit of things with my fave spiced pumpkin soup and maybe a turkey and cranberry sandwich 😉
I’ll leave the beer until the football starts 😀
Happier Heather says
It has become a family tradition to the Gobble Gait, a local Thanksgiving Day race. Last year, my 8 year old (now 9 yr old) stepson joined me for the 8K. Yes, his FIRST race ever was 5 MILES….and he kept pace with me the entire time!! Still SO proud of him for that! He hasn’t decided yet whether he’ll do the 8k again this year or not…but I’m guessing he probably will.
I usually do the 8k while the rest of the fam (nieces, sister in law, hubby, MIL) all walk the 5k. Then, of course, we go pig out!
Brooke says
Is this in place of I think it was called Pile on the Miles last year?
runeatrepeat says
I’m going to do a survey to see if people would also be interested in POTM. Would you?
toni says
We have a local “iron Turkey”option. Running the both 5k and 10k gets you a medal and bragging rights. This yr will be my first attempt.
runeatrepeat says
We have that near me too! The 10k is kinda late, so I’m not sure I can do it yet.
Shana says
Its working with the right price now – yay! I am planning to do the Detroit turkey trot this year – my first ever 10k. Have to stay in town instead of going to see family for thanksgiving this year due to work, so using it as something to look forward to!
runeatrepeat says
Yeah! Thanks for playing 🙂
Sarah G. says
I’m considering doing a turkey trot for the first time this year. I’m running a full marathon on Nov 17th so I’m gonna wait til the last minute and see how my legs feel the week after. There’s a Thanksgiving 5-Miler nearby, so hopefully I will be doing that on the 28th!
Rebecca says
Any advice for someone running more than one race on Thanksgiving? I’m doing a 5 mile race + a 5k race in Oceanside, CA. There should be a bit of time to rest in between the races, but I’m not sure which distance to train for. Should I train for an 8-mile race?
runeatrepeat says
Yes, you should train for the complete distance since it’s the same day. Good luck!
Brenna says
This is odd advice because if you are racing a 5 mile race and racing a 5K, with a break in between that is totally different from racing an 8 mile race. You should actually train by doing long intervals with long rest to mimic actual race day conditions. Training to race 8 miles is completely different from racing 5 miles and then racing 3.1 miles (on fatigued legs).
I would personally train where I did a lot of tempo-ish runs that built in some rest. i.e. 4 miles at tempo pace, 2 miles recovery (even walking recovery possibly) and then another 4 miles at tempo pace. Or something like that. Start smaller, obviously, but I’d want to train where I ran hard on tired legs.
runeatrepeat says
That’s great advice! I didn’t read her comment as wanting to “Race” the distances but complete them. I should have asked for more information. But, training for the entire distance would get someone ready to complete both races. Back to back races – especially same day(!) is very difficult.
It’s a very unique situation and one most people don’t specifically train for – I know there is a similar 5k/10k race near me on T-day, and I don’t see people training for it with long rests in between because the races are kind of fun runs.

I LOVE the idea of Turkey Trots. I never can do the ones on Thanksgiving because we are always driving to the in-laws. I do like to do 10 miles the morning of a holiday for some reason. I am going to call it the Thanksgiving Ten this year. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this time of year!
Caryn says
Hi, I received the $36 dollar charge as well. 🙁
runeatrepeat says
Just updated it. If it already charged you I’ll get you a refund asap.
Laura says
It is charging me $36
runeatrepeat says
Sorry – I just updated it.
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
I love doing Turkey Trots! I don’t know if we will have one on the agenda this year, but they are always so fun to start Thanksgiving morning off with a race and then FOOD!!! 🙂
Shana says
So, when I went to sign up it tried to charge $36 dollars instead of $12?
Tabatha Rhodes says
Me too 🙁
Vi says
Ditto.
Vi says
Works now – I was able to register for $12. Thanks!
runeatrepeat says
Just updated it. Should be 12.00 now.
Kendra says
Could it be that you selected all three training programs and not just one?
Katie says
Mine too! It said it was a $12 Preco base. What is that?
runeatrepeat says
I’m working on fixing it and getting you a refund asap! Sorry about that 🙁
runeatrepeat says
I just updated it to the correct amount. Not sure why it was charging for all three plans.
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
I’m still debating whether to do the 10K Turkey Trot this year. I missed registering before the cutoff date, so I have to pay $10 extra (boo). Plus I am probably doing a 10-miler with the running club on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We’ll see!
