The post is part of my partnership is Oroweat.
November 3rd is National Sandwich Day!
I don’t know about you, but I eat sandwiches all the time (I’m probably eating one as you read this). So, I thought I should celebrate this very important day in our nation’s history with TWO sandwiches.
Double-fisting sammies. Heck yeah.
The first sandwich recipe was inspired by the delicious mozzarella appetizer I had before the Marine Corps Marathon. You don’t need a lot of ingredients to make an amazing dish.
The simplicity of good cheese, a fresh tomato and quality balsamic is enough.
Make sure you get fancy mozzarella and balsamic or Ina will frown upon your sandwich.

BMT – Basil, Mozzarella and Tomato Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients:
-
Fresh mozzarella cheese (a lot because you’ll eat some of it while making this)
-
Few basil leaves
-
Tomato
-
balsamic vinegar
-
2 pieces of Oroweat bread
-
Salt and Pepper to taste
-
Some way to grill it up
Directions: Pile up the BMT ingredients (basil, mozz, tomato) on the bread. Season with S&P and balsamic. Grill. Eat. (I used my Foreman grill, but the usual way works.)
Delicious!
Now it’s time for dessert!
I created this cannoli inspired sandwich as a post-sandwich treat.
Melted Chocolate Cannoli Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients:
-
2 Tb. whipped cream cheese
-
1 Tb mini chocolate chips
-
1 sugar packet of your choice
-
1 tsp. powdered sugar
-
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 sandwich thin
Directions: Combine cream cheese, chocolate chips, vanilla extract and sugar. Spread onto one side of the sandwich thin. Smash. Grill. Dust with powdered sugar.
Question: What’s your FAVORITE SANDWICH?
I like tuna or fancy chicken salad with tons of grapes and cranberries and cashews.
Disclaimer: This post is part of my Breadbassadorship with Oroweat. I am carb-loading and they thought I was the right peep for the job. All opinions are my own.

I love (most) sandwiches too! Getting ready to eat a PB&J right now. I love chicken salad, fancy grilled cheese and my old standby PBJ.
MandaBean says
My current favorite: Rosemary & Olive Oil flatbread with lettuce, turkey, Swiss cheese & cherry jalapeño salsa. Fold in half, grill (I use my foreman too), yummm!!!
I can’t wait to whip up a delicious sandwich with Thanksgiving leftovers!
Johanna B says
I love Caprese salads so I imagine your BMT will be superb. Can’t wait to try it. As for the second one – cream cheese and chocolate chips? Yummers.
Livi says
nutella + pb!

Turkey and avocado…or turkey and cranberry-orange relish. Or an egg sandwich with green chile…mm sandwiches…
Jojo @ RunFastEatLots says
My go-to comfort food sandwich is PB&J! It’s simple, but I always enjoy it!
Sara @ LovingOnTheRun says
Wow both of those sandwiches looks SO delicious! My favorite sandwich is just simple: turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. Nothing fancy but I love it toasted!
Sarah says
Vegan multigrain bread, tofu, shredded carrots, sliced radishes, lettuce, veganase, plain hummus, and probably some pepper. It’s been so long, now I’m totally craving one!
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run says
Both of the sandwiches look so good!

that MBT sandwich looks so amazing. I have recently been making this as a salad lately at work

National Sandwich Day? I’ll blame my constant cravings on that then…
Chelsey says
Almond butter and bananas! Taste like dessert!
Amanda says
I love sandwhiches!! We are gluten free so we use UDI’S bread. Then my favorite filling for a sandwhich is tuna, pickles, mustard, a little garlic salt, all mixed together. Then some Sharp cheddar cheese and then grill it!! Yummy!!
Charlotte says
The classic grilled cheese never disappoints.
Becky@TheSavedRunner says
I love a good turkey sandwich with tons of veggies and avocado. I have learned that too much gluten doesn’t go well with my body, so I don’t eat many sandwiches unless they are on Ezekial bread.
Denise says
I love panninis but another favorite is turkey, cream cheese, cranberry sauce, and stuffing on sourdough bread.
Mari @ Living with Purpose says
Oh gosh, you have me drooling. Yum!
Running Librarian says
prosciutto salami sandwich on a good crusty baguette is my favorite.
stephanie @ healthy, happy stephanie says
I love all of the sandwiches but grilled cheese will probably always be my favorite!
april says
i love tuna sandwiches mixed with greek yogurt and lots of tomatoes… or if i’m in a breakfast mood, i love egg sandwiches with spinach, hummus, and avocado 🙂
C. says
These both look delicious. I have a panini press and never use it; a caprese sounds like a good way to break that! My fave sandwich is anything with turkey+avocado… yum.
Stephanie @ Pink Sugar Running Shoes says
Yummy! Sandwiches are by far my favorite foods. I had no idea that tomorrow is national sandwich day. I will definitely be celebrating for every meal (at least!). My favorite sandwich is loaded with veggies and maybe some hummus spread!
Elizabeth @ Positive Change says
Both of your sandwiches had me drooling! I really love a good tuna sandwich as well, but nothing can beat the turkey and lettuce with a good cheese sandwich!
Amy @ Run Write Hike says
Caprese salads (and sandwiches!) are the best. I swear I ate one once a day in Italy last summer. So refreshing.
Tartanjogger @tartanjogger.com says
My favourite is a simple smoked salmon and cream cheese. Or tuna mixed with Greek yoghurt, peppers, chilli and mustard. Yum!
Laura @ Live, Run, Sparkle says
That mozzarella, tomato, basil sandwich is the best idea…I usually have those ingredients, why do I never made this combo?! That dessert sandwich looks good too, i think my boyfriend would die of amazement if I made him that one. Thanks!!
Larissa @ Running with the Dragonflies says
YUMMMMM. I kinda want to try to make a vegan version of the BMT.
Courtney @The TriGirl Chronicles says
Ohmygoodness. I want those both. I’ve had basically that first sandwich at a local sandwich shop when I was in college and it’s so good. That cannoli dessert one may be on my must have list this weekend though.
I love a good old fashion Wegmans sub. Nomnomnom.
