Santa Clarita Marathon and Half Marathon Results and Recap

Hello! I just had the busiest weekend ever – so along with the Santa Clarita Marathon results I’m going to share all the fun! Also – how did all my friends running the New York City Marathon do?! Lemme know!

Join me back on Saturday night for a second…

margarita before marathon (600x800)

I went to a big family party for my Nino’s birthday. My lil brother and I had some fun taking selfies…

with my brother (640x640)

and the food was amazing, per usual.

mexican food party (800x600)

Since the Santa Clarita Marathon is 80+ miles from my house, but ‘only’ 45 miles from my mom’s I slept there last night.

pre marathon (600x800)

I’m considering moving back for obvious reasons…

the food.

They have fancy creamer – I never buy this stuff because I know I’d drink it all in one day – possibly on cereal.

Santa Clarita Marathon

Santa Clarita Marathon and Half Marathon –  Since it was daylight savings time or something I woke up before my alarm and got to the race with plenty of time to spare. The announcer was great about giving clear updates and reminders, there was plenty of parking, the race started on time and most importantly – there were plenty of porta potties.

santa clarita marathon start line (800x600)

Here’s the race shirt – I didn’t take a picture of the medal yet.

santa clarita marathon tee (600x800)

Starting line about 20 minutes before the race – this is the great thing about smaller races – you don’t need to get there 4 hours ahead of time.

start line marathon (800x600)

I was FREEZING at the start and someone saw me shivering and gave me their sweatshirt!! Isn’t that the nicest thing of your life?!

santa clarita marathon best runners (600x800)

I thought it was a good course – very scenic around the local paved trails. It’s not super exciting and probably best as a half marathon. There are not a lot of spectators – so it is very different from that other race going on this weekend (NYCM) but the weather was perfect for running – cool and pretty (no crazy winds like NYCM). There were plenty of water stops and the volunteers were super nice.

santa clarita marathon results and recap (800x600)

This marathon was my 10th full marathon of the year! More importantly, it’s my LAST marathon of the year! Whew. In addition to the race I had 3 very important parties for people I love so I considering not running – but I wanted to cross one last 26.2 off before I retire my marathon legs for 2014. (I have half marathons coming up.) I’m glad I did it now that I’m on the other side of that finish Smile

Santa Clarita Marathon time: 3:54:08

Pace: 8:55

Updated to add: I ran another marathon without a watch. I just haven’t been able to get my Garmin to work – but I’m going to work on that this week. I just have a lot going on in Monicanland and haven’t made it a priority. I do think it would help to pace and push myself better so I need it asap!

From the race I had to rush back to my mom’s, take a shower and go to my Grams’ for her 90th birthday celebration! I don’t have any pictures of that because I was late and just trying to enjoy my fam.

Then, I rushed to my friend Bri’s baby shower. My girls SkinnyRunner, KT and Shelley threw it and it was the most gorgeous shower!

The girls!

From there I hit up Whole Foods for ALL THE FOOD. I didn’t eat that much today (seriously – I didn’t eat a ‘real’ meal for me and it was 6pm).

So I got all this for tonight. Just me. Boom.

Hi it was so cool to meet you after the marathon!! I met a famous runner! 🙂 Great job! It is a nice flat course. And the volunteers at the water stations were all super nice and tons of them.

I can’t believe you ran a marathon then went to not just 1 but multiple parties! After a marathon I can just sit around and drink water then beer 🙂

Do you not realize how awkward you look in group pictures when you’re in the middle and you’re the only one putting your arm on your hip, to try and look slimmer, and blocking other girls in the process? Not to mention just ruining the entire group photo.

ran 4 miles today! Didn’t time myself either since I’m just trying to get the mileage in and didn’t want to disappoint myself by paying attention to my pace. I’m hoping I’ll start timing myself by next week, but for now, I’m more focused on my form, breathing, and distance since I’m getting over bronchitis. Cooler weather felt amazing!

I think running without a garmin is probably a nice treat every now and again. You will appreciate these races when you are back in pace tracking mode and pushing hard for faster splits. Happy 90th to your grams.

3 mile walk with my son and the basset hounds before he went back to campus. Gorgeous fall day – watching the end of the NYC Marathon has me totally motivated to get back to running. I did my first half in May and had blisters and a few overuse injuries. Since then I have been struggling to stay motivated for my run days – hopefully the pile on the miles challenge will get me back on track!

Plan: walk or slow trot with some of the girls from the run group
Actual: 6mile slow trot + 6mile run; so it was better than expected especially after 12 miles on Saturday
      Monday
      Plan: cross training
Actual: back & pec strength training
      So that’s 2 for 2. Happy as a lark.

Today is a rest day, I think I’ll just walk as much as I can to do some errands. Then, this week I planned to run 230 minutes, without deciding a distance. Let’s see how it goes!

My knee is still in pain, so I did an upper body strength workout today and will replace my run tomorrow with some stationary bike.

No actual run or workout but work was busy enough to count as a good workout.

I ran a half marathon a week ago and took a full week off to recover, so I’m back at it tomorrow! So all that to say…today I didn’t do anything! My legs feel rested though and that was the point 🙂

Took the dog for a 2 mile walk, and then did some PiYo before dinner. Didn’t technically make 10,000 steps, but Iwould still consider it a success!

Today I did a 15min warm up jog, then did my first NROLFW Stage 2 strength training workout. It was tough, but good 🙂

My favourite eat this weekend was some super fresh turkish pide with parmesan and spinach dip from a local market. YUM!

      6.6 chilly/windy miles this afternoon.

I went a little crazy on mileage this week, so I’m planning on a couple days of yoga and probably 3 or 4 days of running. My goal is around 20 miles/week for November

2 miles on the treadmill Sunday morning. My goal is 60 miles for November so for the month I have 55 more miles. Woo hoo!

Day 2 – only one mile on the treadmill tonight, but it followed an hour of strength training, so I’m calling it good. This week’s plans involve lots of early mornings to get my runs in before work. I have some extra long days at work this week, so I know I won’t want to run at the end of the day.

The best think I ate or drank this week was a mimosa at work today (the benefits of working in theatre = encouraged drinking on the job) when the bar in the lobby had a bottle of champagne that needed to be finished.

Ran 6 miles today, 3 of which was a time trial to set my zones for the upcoming training. Balls out for 3 miles felt good. Need to do it more often.
